If your "plug-in port" was a PCMCIA slot, there are adapters you can buy to get a slot from a USB port. They are pricey, though, like $180, at least the ones I looked at.

Another question is whether there are Windows 7 drivers for the soundblaster card. You should make sure of this before doing anything else. Is your potential laptop purchase 32 or 64-bit Windows 7?
