Greetings fellow travelers! Hmm...I'm just gonna throw this one up here for comments, especially on the mix. I don't think I chose the best key for my voice and I also couldn't seem to find exactly what I wanted with the drums (ultra pak on it's way!!), and now I'm so sick of it, me thinks I must move on. Beth, this sounds quite nice! Nice band with the bass and organ out front. The percussion is pretty far back, but I think this is ok. Your vocals are quite fine, and if there is a key choice issues, it's not detectable to me. Like your harmonies a lot and where you've panned them. Also like the ambiguity and spirituality of the lyrics, if that makes sense. My only constructive criticism is the guitar solos seem rushed and out of place. Can see from your credits that most of your instruments are 120 BPM but the soloist is 90 BPM, and I assume sped up quite a bit by BiaB. Anyway...loved your song! FWIW, this post was pushed onto the 2nd page of the forum without getting a review, which is a shame. One of the perils of the forum, I'm afraid. Hope this gets more listens, it's worth it!

Beth,
Love this...
A moody, almost jazzy sound. Very unique. Lyrics are great and I really like your voice. I think the key works fine.

Beth, everything sounds great There is nothing wrong with your vocal or the drums I find nothing wrong with the lead guitar, adding the B3 was brilliant Super bass track Great mix

Hi Ron, thanks for your detailed feedback. I guess the key choice was felt more than heard, so that's good. I don't have many soloist options at the moment but that will be changing soon :D, so hopefully won't have to push BPM's too far in future. And yes, your lyric comment makes sense. Glad you like it...and dug it up from page 2!

Thanks, Mario, for that reassurance. I am not sure what you mean by B3. (well...now I do)

Beth,
Such a compelling song. Your vocal floats so gently above the background tracks. And your harmony is impeccable. The lyric is reassuring beautifully gets the point across.
Very nicely done!

Enjoyed everything about it! Not sure what is unsettling to you. My only thought—and this is MY taste only—is that it is lengthy, and the parts are all quite similar. Each segment is solid on its own. If this were my project I would look to do something to alter the latter verses, like maybe slightly change the harmony/chords, as a way to keep the listener connected. But, setting my viewpoint aside, it is a lovely work, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Beth, Well composed and performed tune. Excellent vocals! Overall mix is very clean. Two suggestion items. I feel Organ is a bit hot at places. And it feels that this is a bass centric tune. There is nothing wrong if you meant it like this, but for a more unified mix I think it could go down 2-4db. Enjoyed my listen and thank you for sharing.
Misha.

Ah, such a good write, and in spite of your uncertainty of key, you hit every note with strong conviction. In fact, I really enjoy the range of your vocal. I like the mix cuz I can hear that cool bass and a tambourine surrounded by your vocal and harmony. I also like the effects on your vocals. Much enjoyed, Beth.

Ya know, I was worried about that. Thanks for mentioning it. I'm gonna have to give it a think. I was so happy with the lyrics that I didn't want to lose any, so mixing up the chords//band/harmony is a great idea.

Thanks for that, Misha. I wouldn't say I know what I'm doing when I mix so I appreciate the ears. I had taken the organ down and then put it back up. Maybe my first instinct was the better one.

I read the lyrics first as I'm always interested in your perspective, which I totally relate to, and they’re brilliant again. Re the music, it's great use of BiaB and I particularly like the organ. The guitar solo was the perfect choice and also the right length (so I I don't agree with DC!). I find that in some posts where there are instrumental breaks they're much too short and more like taking a breath and not an actual break. Excellent song all around.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Hi, Beth. Nice write. I can relate to "I don't like x about the song, but it's time to move on". The song feels long to me, but that's likely just me and my easily distracted goldfish brain. I agree that the guitar solo sounds too frenetic, especially against the calm of the song. Perhaps that's the intent? But I'd have cut it a bit shorter - those guitarists will keep going and going if you're not careful. But it's a good song and message, and that's really what it's all about.

I think the key fits your voice quite well, so I wouldn't worry about it, the vocals and harmonies sound good. The drums are mellow and relaxed (the opposite of what I normally do ), but your song (minus the guitar solo) is mellow and relaxed, so the drums fit the song well too, and it's all about the song, not the individual elements of it. What I would change is the guitar solo, it's too hectic for an otherwise laid back song. I think something slower with more sustain (similar to Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler in the slower songs) would support the song better. But all in all, it's a good song that's worth keeping. If you're tired from working on it, give it a rest for a few days. Distance helps when you're stuck.

Very nice.
We enjoyed the narrative - especially using the eye of the storm as a metaphor.
Nice band and vocal performance too.
Enjoyed it,
