David, In the intro I thought I heard a hurdy gurdy organ but I didn’t see it listed. On the first listen it sounded striking to hear the melody and lyrical weave, but after my 4th listen it grew on me and I see what you were going for. The end result is a set of really cool lyrics matched with an interesting chord structure and melodies. It is quite a complex and compelling listen and I can hear the amount of time spent on this. I liked it a lot, Tom

David...how you did that amazes me...I've worked with Synth V quite a bit now and it would have taken me weeks to even get close to what you did here...very cool and congrats on staying with it...really interesting cool song...some of the harmonies got a little funky in places IMO...BUT it sounded like real people would sing...sometimes right on and sometimes oops! I wouldn't change a thing if I were you...the nuances make it believable...really complex and complicated...well done!

I really like what you've done with all the vocals. I found myself focused on them to hear all the intricacies you created. I hear some of the dissonance that you referred to, although it doesn't bother me much---maybe just one or two places. In some spots, I am reminded of the Association complex vocals.

I have all the UJam guitars. I've used Amber once or twice. I've used Iron and Carbon the most.

You've done a great job, David, and it sounds a bit like a musical comedy. I don't really find any dissonances in the harmonies. You're a little hard on yourself; that's certainly demanding, and it helps you progress. But in the end, it's a beautiful result.

David, enjoyed this thoroughly on my second listen. Think my brain just had to catch up a bit to your SynthV gymnastics. This would make a sensational stage number. It just has that theater thing...

No, that's the FX messing with your ears. Cool sound, though. laugh

Thanks! It's probably one of the thicker harmonies I've done, and I certainly have a ways to go. But where it does work, I'm pretty happy with that.

I think I've got them all (except for the cinematic guitar that's just coming out), but they're never my "go to" instruments. BiaB is always that. smile

The "stage musical" vibe was what I was going for, so I'm glad a bit of that came through.

Thanks for posting this song. I also did hear some of the dissonance in the vocals that you referred to, and it bothers me less knowing you know it is there and can easily fix it if you want to refine this track. I just purchased Synth V2 and look forward to completing some songs. It seems so much easier to use than the Vocaloid I used in the past. It is also interesting to see you use some of the UJAM plugins which I also find work well.

Hi David,

I dunno how I missed this one. I don't think your lyrics are so toothless...but I am a little confused by this piece which probably won't suprise you given your own comments. I like the music and I like (most of) the harmonies. But I actually think it's the music that is toothless with your lyrics. Does that make sense? I like both...just not sure if together. But FWIW, I think you have two potentials here...like Mario said, 'diamonds in the rough'.

“the devil gets his due
and he shows up right on cue
but he looks a lot like you”

Irrespective of your thoughts on the write smile we like it and especially the above.
We would need a diagram to keep up with what is going on 😊 (you are really good at big productions).

Yes, sometimes there is a bit of dissonance in the harmonies which we assumed was intentional.
BUT the juxtaposition of those sections and the pure, sweet harmony sections work well with the lyric.
We were reminded of an organ Leslie effect on some of the voices.

We also enjoyed the back story and tech info.
The mix is standout with a fascinating sound stage on our monitors.

Kudos!

Interesting folky pop song, ambitious in many ways, I'm just having difficulties to express what I think of it laugh I can relate to "work you into a corner.", tearing it down is not an option when you have already worked on something quite long... unless you have lots of time... Lovely chord progression and together with the harmonies create a mysterious world, maybe dissonance just adds an extra spice, the way of the world. Somehow the verse parts sound musically more interesting, but the chorus is lyrically stronger. And the arrangement is especially enjoyable in those rare instrumental parts. Anyway, nice to hear you stretching your creativity and I appreciate the work you have done again with the vocals.

Janne

Hi David,

I'm glad you joined us with a new song. At first: the vocals of the lead singer are very good.
I can understand that some, like Ron, said you got them from the intro.
You got me there too.
The vocal stayed nice together and I didn't hear (real) difficulties between both vocals.
Also the lyrics are very good, but that never was a problem for you.
But somewhere halfway through the song seems to lose its flow and it becomes difficult to continue.
Maybe a transposition can help you out there? Or maybe you're thinking, "What the heck are you talking about"

Hans

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
