I'm still rummaging through past songs I've written and seeing if I can do anything with them smile Here is another one. Maybe Tomorrow was created a couple of years ago. Now with Synth V and the Asterian2 vocaloid, I can breathe some life into it and more-or-less reproduce it as I imagined it originally.

Please feel free to comment in way on on any aspect of the song.

I hope you enjoy listening.

Production
DAW: Reaper

The aspiration output contains breaths and noises as well as consonant formants. I find it useful to be able to controls these aspects of the vocals independently.

AB FAB Noel.
Some of the hihat stuff is a little loud in spots.
Sweet narrative, sweet arrangement too.
Excellent work with the synth voice though I still prefer yours.

Cheers

This is STUNNING. Wow. Superb lyrics. BEAUTIFUL melody. Superb rendition. What a song.

Loved that interlude.

One of your best, without a doubt. Had me literally sit up in my chair, from the first couple of bars in.

LOVE IT. We need more of your music on here, PLEASE. You have a rare gift ... the humanity you clearly have in your soul shines throughout your music. You are able to communicate so clearly and unequivocally what you feel, and it all shines through. It would be a crime not to hear even more of your songs! In the meantime ... bravo for this one, too. Hats off.

Hi Nigel,
First thing that struck me was the photo. Is that your watercolor? Just curious. The next thing that struck me were the lyrics as they started sinking in. It's a beautiful song. I'm not sure I liked the voice. Although as far as Synth voices go, it sounded quite natural. It was just the timbre for some reason felt too thick for such an airy ballad. Let me put it this way: have you ever seen someone get ready to sing, and then when they do, their voice doesn't match their body? It just hit me like that for some reason.
But still a lovely, touching piece.

Another brilliant production from you Noel.

I also understand a lot about the meaning behind such a beautiful song. So melodic, and with such wonderful emotion.

You have truly delivered an amazing tribute. Thank you for sharing this.

Noel,

Beautiful song...

Love the instrumentation and the excellent mix. Your singer has a hint of Roger Whittaker, which I think fits this song perfectly.

Loved it!

I like bossa nova and so I was expecting much. The composition and arrangement was just fine, but to my disappointment the vocals didn't meet my taste. I understand the usage of AI for vocals, specially if one is not a singer - as in my case - and is creating something new: own song, translation, different version etc. Still I found in this case the vocals a bit too artificial.

Noel..I echo all the positive comments.. I'll add that, as someone "shopping" for a SynthV male voice, I was quite impressed.. I'll have to take another look at Asterian! Thanks for reaching into the "yesterday bag" and breathing life into this very nice piece!

Hi Ray.

Thanks for having a listen. My vocals aren't so good these days (it's a combination of getting old and a left-over effect from covid in 2022). As a result, Synth V fills the gap nicely and still lets me make music. I agree with you regarding the hihats. I haven't tamed them too well, at all. Thanks for reminding me to revisit them smile I appreciate it.

All the best,
--Noel

Hello BYOBand.

Thanks for dropping in and having a listen. The watercolour is from Canva (online). I simply typed in a scenario and then let it design something. The sound I was aiming for was a musical-theatre/light-opera sound that was often found in musicals from the 1950s and 1960s. I was happy with Asterian's vocals although I appreciate that they might not sit comfortably on all ears. I appreciate your feedback. Thank you smile

All the best,

Hi Trev.

It's always great to see you. Thank you for visiting smile Life's experiences shape all of us, and these days, I find it a challenge to write things that do not draw on my experiences from recent and not-so-recent times in some way. Thank you for noticing.

I hope things are going well for you!

Hey Bob.

Thank you for passing through the thread and stopping to have a listen. I sincerely appreciate your comments. That's an interesting through about Roger Whittaker. I loved his easy style of folk music. It always made me feel comfortable.

Thanks again!

Hi, Noel.

Excellent opening:

Maybe tomorrow
This ocean will be blue... again.

It sets up the song and "attitude" immediately.

The vocals in the mix feels a bit distant to me, but that might be a "me" issue, because I prefer my vocals a bit more up front.

There are a few places were the /s/ is brought down a touch too much is "lisp" territory - but again, that's a preference thing.

I like it! Nice song, it tells the story well. I'm glad you were able to dust it off. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

We can then just listen to records of the real singers. For me the fun is do as much as I can myself. Even tho I'm not a singer.

Hi Brno.

Thanks for having a listen. I appreciate it.

Just to clarify for others who may read your comment, the vocals are not 'ripped off'. Synth V is a vocal synthesizer and not an online AI singer. The software requires quite a lot of human input to get it sounding its best. What I've learnt from being on these PG Music forums for many years is that "having fun with music" means different things to different people, and BIAB makes it possible for people from all walks of life to be creative and enjoy making music.

Thanks again!

Hi David.

It's good to see you. I wholeheartedly agree with you about the sibilance. There are definitely places where it is borderline lisping. This is in the design of Asterian2 and was not something I chose. In a number of places throughout the vocal track, I've raised the 's' volume to a maximum, and a few times, I even changed 'z' endings to 's' endings. I'll revisit the aspiration output and see if I can bring a little more life into the sibilance! Thanks for your comments. As always, you give me good food for thought smile

Thanks again,
--Noel

I listened the other day but wasn't able at that time to respond.

A Bossa just hits the way nothing else does. Nice work.

I recently worked on a few bossa tunes for another project. It's a fun kind of music for sure.

Assuming you've got Asterian (the original) or even the demo version, you could choose to render the aspiration track from that and see what you get.

You could also try using the aspiration of another voice, although I've found the /s/ is tricky to mix-and-match.

Thanks for the tip, David. I hadn't thought of that. I've been through the track now and manually boosted the 's' sounds that were too soft. I think it's a bit better. I need to revisit it in a few hours when my ears are less sensitive to hearing 's'!
