Soundcloud: Pickup Truck

Hello everyone. Been awhile since I posted a new song. This one I put together using BIAB back in 2019, but never finished due to changing hobby focus. I needed to replace my computer and purchased a Mac instead of a PC and then thought - I should try Logic Pro. After several weeks of learning the new DAW, I’m able to complete some songs, especially now that I purchased Synthesizer V for the vocals (my singing voice has gone away as I get older and in any case, I couldn’t do the female parts.) I have an eclectic taste in music - this is a different style that I thought I would try. Everything except the vocal and trap beat (rap part) is from BIAB, although some of the tracks are edited in Logic.

Genre: Country Rap (Lighthearted)
Daw: Logic Pro 11
Vocals: Synthesizer V with Liam and Natalie (I think Natalie worked really well for the female parts. Liam is the only male voice I have now - I’m satisfied, but believe one of the other voices could work better.)
Details: 136 BPM in key of G major

BIAB tracks:
RealDrums NashvilleSwing8^5-SideStck,Snare
Bass_Real 539 Bass, Electric, Pop Sw 120
Real 974 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm CountrySwingCleanA-B Sw 140
Real 977 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm CountrySwingGrittyA-B Sw 140
Real 1550 Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm CountrySwing Sw 140
Soloist_Real 2027 Piano, Acoustic, Soloist CountrySwingJohn Sw 085

Lyrics:

Male:
Pickup truck got broke, what am I supposed to do.
Pickup truck got broke, how am I gonna get to you.
Should-of had my friend Cecil , look it over like he said I should.
He is a mechanic, can do more than just open the hood.

Female:
His pickup truck is broke, what am I supposed to do.
His pickup truck is broke, the darn fool probable ran it out of fuel.
Should I call my friend Darleen, ask her to drive me there?
Am I that desperate, why should I even care.

Rap part:
No truck, no car, no pedal bike.
I can walk, but it’s a hike.
The motorcycles dead for over a year.
It got smashed when I hit that deer.

I can hitch a ride, but that’s dangerous.
A psycho or a bad guy could pick me up.
Can’t roller blade or skateboard, though it wouldn’t matter.
I’m not an athlete. I’d probably crash and splatter.

My neighbors got a horse, but it’s always lame.
I’m scared of getting bucked, so it’s just the same.
Where’s the whisky bottle? I think it is time to drink.
That way I won’t have to think.

My hound in the kitchen, just picked up his ear.
Can only mean one thing, my friend Cecil is near
He’s got his rusty red Cad Eldorado
He’s come to do some hunting, it's that time of year.

Outro:
Male: Pickup truck got broke, what am I supposed to do.
Female: Get your [***] over here, thats what you’re supposed to do.
Male: But the pickup truck got broke.
Female: Find a way if you want my love today. Find a way if you want my love today.

Hi, Mark.

Fun little tune. Liam works well in the lower range - he's got a bit of a Johnny Cash vibe going.

Yee-Haw Mark .... This crankshaft cupid song had me in stitches !! 🤠
Alright, buckle up, buttercup, because this ain't your grandma's country song! We've got a full-blown romance emergency happening here, folks. Cupid's got his arrow notched, but the dude's pickup truck decided to stage a full-blown mechanical mutiny. Forget Romeo and Juliet, this is more like Romeo and Rust Bucket!
This song's so genre-bending, it's practically doing the limbo under the established rules of music. We've got a man so lovelorn, he's resorting to rapping his heartbreak in a country tune! 😮
Now, the synth voices? They're like the weird cousin at the wedding - a little out there, but somehow, they make it work. In this case, they add a quirky charm to this tale of vehicular-induced romantic frustration. 👍
The dialogue alone is pure gold:
"Pickup truck got broke, what am I supposed to do?" Wails our hero.

"Get your [*****] over here, that's what you're supposed to do!" Shoots back his fiery Juliet.

"But... the pickup truck!" He protests, clinging to his sputtering engine like a lifeline.

Her response? A perfectly delivered ultimatum: "Find a way if you want my love today!" You go girl!!!!!

This song isn't just a song; it's a cliffhanger! I'm left screaming into the void, "Did he walk? Did he hitchhike? Did he skateboard his way to true love?! I need answers! Write a sequel Mark before I start composing my own dramatic interpretation of the pickup truck saga!"

Cool song Mark , I love it. Great imagination. 💯 ✔️
Sorry for the long rant - I couldn't help myself !!! 😜

Fun song! Love the lyrics, really well done, and very funny.
Vocals sound pretty good, amazing really what you can do these days.
Track sounds good too, nicely mixed.
Enjoyed!

Funny and different, enjoyed my listen a lot.
The bridges to and from the RAP part are not for me, I think they're a bit distracting.
I would go straight from the country-rock part to the RAP track and back.
But, nonetheless, this is a VERY cool song [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

Country + rap + trap beat, I enjoy crossover styles, not playing by the book smile Funny simple subject, a well built story made me smile, especially with lines like "I think it is time to drink/That way I won’t have to think". The dialogue duet approach works well. It is nice to hear Liam in a country song and you have made good work with him, including the rap part, Liam sounds almost unrecognizable in a good way, like some bloke from the neighborhood.

Great instrumentation in this, Very good song, though I'm not a SynthV fan.

Delightfully funny. I like that percussive sound that enters into the mix at about 1:30.

"My hound in the kitchen, just picked up his ear." That's a clever detail!

Hi Mark,

I always enjoy a humorous song. This fits the bill perfectly.

My father was a General Motors mechanic all his life, so this one sings to me. Much enjoyed!

Very creative, and a LOT of fun. Cool transitions in-out of the rap section. Sounds great, too!

Thank you everyone giving me feedback on my song. Izzy - I especially enjoyed reading your "long rant".

I've been busy with song writing for the last few weeks. I just finished a Christmas song that I started 6 years ago, but won't publish it until after Thanksgiving. I'm now working on a song for my niece and her fiancé who are soon getting married - I've taken all the details I could gather about their relationship and crafted lyrics. She said she likes Indie Folk, so I started writing with that goal, but it is turning out to be more like Indie Folk/Pop. Having a deadline (the wedding date) keeps me from procrastinating.

Love the title…great idea to spin a lyric off of…interesting to see how you used the synth voices, well done. Congrats on moving outside the box and being creative!

Band-in-a-Box 2026 Video: AI Stems & Notes - split polyphonic audio into instruments and transcribe

This video demonstrates how to use the new AI-Notes feature together with the AI-Stems splitter, allowing you to select an audio file and have it separated into individual stems while transcribing each one to its own MIDI track. AI-Notes converts polyphonic audio—either full mixes or individual instruments—into MIDI that you can view in notation or play back instantly.
