I'll Be Your Fool Dear fellow Songsmiths. I celebrated the arrival of my Ultra HD by reverting to my original biab modus operandi which is to arrange the entire song in biab. Style? Check! Key & Tempo? Check! Chords? Check! Sing Melody! Check and voilà - a song is born! The magic of BIAB. I had forgotten how liberating and fun this simple procedure is rather than endlessly dragging and arrranging bits and pieces into my DAW to then tediously perform audio surgery on them. The result is an intensionally vanilla, back to basics, bare to the bone simple ditty. It probably needs a serious spit-shine, some structural integrity, and possibly an exorcism. BUT… Please give it a spin and. as always, any comments, good or bad, are much appreciated. Thanks again Mr Gannon for the Ultra HD. I'd be lost in a sea of writer’s block without you. Vanilla is my favorite flavor, Izzy, and you made a tasty treat here. PSU has a first-class culinary course. They make the best ice cream. They concentrate on making the vanilla ice cream outstanding because everything else will be better as a result. This is a good song, well written with excellent lyrics and a catchy melody. I like the harmony, and your vocal. Man, this is so good. Vanilla is good.

Izzy, stay vanilla and never go to chocolate This is perfect in every aspect. Outstanding vocal and harmonies. IMHO this is your best to date.

Izzy, very beautiful. Plaintive yet hopeful. Like your BiaB instrument choices a lot, they support the song quite well. Really nice vocals and harmonies. Super duper song!
My only suggestion would be to tame the occasional vocal glitch. They only stand out because much of your vocal is so very, very clean.

Wow, I'm especially impressed by your vocals - such a pure tone! I would give up a lot to be able to sing like that. And the song was terrific, too. Your posts are quite entertaining to read as well - a clever mind at work. The whole package here, I greatly enjoyed it. I'm going to search and listen to your past tracks right now, I'm sure I'll find it worth the time.

Marty Wow! Thanks so much! Hearing that my song is a "tasty treat" and that "Vanilla is good" is the highest culinary compliment a songwriter could ask for. Clearly, I need to visit PSU and sample this legendary vanilla for inspiration for my next hit. Thanks again Marty for making my day (and possibly jumpstarting my ice cream-themed songwriting career)!😂

Mario-nificent Haha, 'stay vanilla'! I appreciate the warning! I'll keep the chocolate wink locked away for now and I'll try my best to maintain the vanilla levels...but a rogue caramel swirl might sneak in at some point. 'Best to date'?! Now you've put the pressure on! But seriously, I really appreciate the encouragement and the listen Mario. Means a lot!

Thank you so much for the kind words Ron! I'm so glad you enjoyed the song and the BiaB choices. "Super duper" is a fantastic compliment! As for the vocal glitches, I'm blaming the gremlins in my studio. They're notorious for messing with the recording equipment...or maybe it was just me trying to hit notes I had no business attempting! I'll wrangle them (or my vocal cords) and smooth things out. Thanks again for the feedback!

Bob Ok, you're officially my favorite person on the internet today. I tried to think of a clever response but I drew a blank. It is hard to think while blushing. All I can offer you is a very sincere thankyou, I appreciate you taking the plunge!

Hi Izzy! This song is a delight! I know you're playing (mostly) chords in C major, but that melody feels like a melody that has never been sung by anyone ever before! Maybe it's the melancholic style or the high notes that have a subtle rawness to them? The style of this song is so fitting for the lyrical theme - words of hope and longing, but with an implied wistfulness. I think the starting bare bones of vocal, acoustic and piano adds to the vulnerability as well, and when the band comes in, it doesn't complicate the song. This song makes me want to write down the words, work out the chords and play it myself - and I mean that as a compliment. A joy to listen to. Well done. Andrew D

Love it Izzy! I'm hearing a Cold Play kind of vibe and progression. Really like your vocals and the expression on flows and shows. I honestly don't think it needs much of anything. Simple and sweet and good as is.

Izzy, Fantastic vocal performance! Straight forward arrangement that suits perfectly for the vocal style. I don't believe it needs adding anything else. Surprising twist & chord changes. Clear mix. Listens very well. The only thing, higher harmonies feel a bit artificial. I duno... maybe heavy reverb will blend them better? Enjoyed it and thank you for sharing.
Misha.
P.S. " and possibly an exorcism" I want to see that in action!

Andrew D G'day Andrew Awesome you dig the song! Thankyou.Yep, it's in C, home of the humble chord. And humble chords are exactly what I'm playing. My guitar skills are... charmingly basic. Don't tell anyone Andrew but I might have nicked them from an obscure polka, so you can nick them too if you want. 🙄 Here is a verse and chorus : (verse) In C quiet corners of my Em mind I F look for truth I'm yet to G find That Am day when you walked G away You Em left behind an empty F gray (chorus) G And, as C time ..... Am flows What I don't F know.. Em shows I'd be a F fool don't you Em know what I F dream G It's your C name I Am call It's a Dm game we Em play I'm a F fool after Em fool ever F more G

Simple and sweet and good as is. Hi Beth So glad you liked it! Especially happy you noticed the 'flows and shows' – felt like I was really putting my heart into this one. Coldplay vibes are always welcome company too .Maybe I'll start demanding yellow-painted pianos at my gigs now. 😁 Thanks a bunch for listening! PS I noticed on one of your posts a comment about your muse not showing up and you are certainly not alone there. Frustrating in the least. When my muse shows up all earthly obligations are immediately suspended. whilst my better half just rolls her eyes and mutters veiled (and not-so-veiled) threats about me getting out of work by faking a muse excuse. But hey, when inspiration strikes you gotta roll with it! "Dude, grab this NOW! Gamma wave departure imminent!" "Got It??????" before pfftting back into the cosmic nothingness. Hang in there my friend.

P.S. " and possibly an exorcism" I want to see that in action! Misha, you're a legend! Appreciate the kind words and the spot-on feedback. So glad you dug the vocal and the sneaky chord changes. Noted on the harmonies - I'll drown them in reverb and see if it helps! And the exorcism? Well sshhhh, just between you and me, I'm practicing my head-spinning technique. 😜💨Thanks again for listening!

Hi, Izzy. The backing does what it needs to do: support and stay out of the vocal. And the vocal is good! The harmonies are a treat. Nice plaintive song. Some fun chords, too!

BEAUTIFUL song. The lyrics AND the melody stand out, for me, on a first listen. AND, of course, the VOICE. Clear, pure, to the point. Well done ... great production.

A beautiful song in every regard. You don't have to overthink anything, your song works perfectly and shows that a song created entirely in BIAB does not need post-production to shine. Well done!

What a plaintive vocal. So good along with that excellent chorus. You added the right touch with the harmony.
