Marty and Dave - the pace of this song suits the theme well - drawn out, just like the anguish can be. It also suits the solo guitar work of Dave. Love that Gb7! Andrew D Thanks, Andrew. Dirge-like tempos are also fun to play. Like BiaB, Dave has never complained about the strange keys my voice often requires. That's even more valuable than a drummer who knows chords, right? Great job, Marty and Dave. Marty, you're a prolific guy for sure. Good use of blues RTs. Fine work here, gents. Thanks, Bob. Isn't it cool how this program elevates creativity? Really like the style of this track. Gives me some Gary Moore vibes. Thanks, Alexander. Sometimes it seems Gary Moore gives me Dave Bell vibes. So much to enjoy.
Blues groove, smokey lead guitar tone, universal story of unrequited love. Thanks, Herb. I knew you'd dig that guitar. As I commented on YT, it's another great Marty song and production - it's a superb collaboration, in fact - but lyrically a downer. I just had a look through the list of songs I've written since 1969 and where in my 20s I did write a very few sad songs they're not self-pitying. It's a personal thing, but sad blues songs aside I think the worst self-pitying song ever written was that pop song, possibly from the 80s, where a lady goes to her ex's wedding and screams out "It should have been me!" It makes me laugh as I write it as in reality it'd make mega-embarrassing scenario! PS: I'm baffled by the copyright date on the video opening image. We were both born in 1951, so © 1951 implies that your wrote the song shortly after being born and it was about a previous live. Thanks, Chay. I don't get copyright on my songs anymore --mostly cuz o' apathy. It's just my spoof on the whole thing.

You gentlemen make coming to the forum a great experience. Almost everyone on the forum creates some terrific music. But your music has that little extra that makes the spolight shine a wee bit brighter.
Nice!!!

Really enjoyed your collab..great vocal, esp the stop at the end! Liked the organ accent, the lyric idea/title…Marty, you sound so authentic, this must be an autobiographical reminiscence from your teenage years!

Well done, Marty and Dave. That guitar, I'll start with it, because wow. It cries, in your hands, Dave. Then there's Marty, singing and playing bass and writing music and lyrics as if it was the most natural thing in the world. It probably is, for him. Together, you've created a small masterpiece. The lyrics stand out and suit the music so well ... dark, broody, brilliant. Loved it all ... wanna listen again Hats off, gentlemen.

That's some kinda cool, slinky anguish ya'll got here. Love the title and beaten down lyrics. Super guitar and bass, and super DUPER vocals. The mix fuses it all together in a molten mass of fun-to-listen to misery. Nice one! Thanks, Ron. Have fun in NOLA, man. Can't wait to hear the first song you write when you get back. Marty and Dave, you two gentlemen together are dynamite!. As usual absolutely everything is as professional as professional can be. Loved it. Thanks, Mario. Much appreciated. King of the blues., Marty and Dave. Laurent Thanks, Laurent. Hi Marty. What a brilliant presentation! I love what you and Dave have done. It's awesome listening at its best. The two of you are a very, very tight act! Great stuff --Noel Thanks, Noel. I've never had the pleasure of working with someone this good on guitar. What a treat.

I've been waiting for this to be listed on this forum, because this is easily in the top 3 Marty songs Also one that has been playing in my head especially when I've been down or walking in the mire. There's much pain in the lyrics, but I can safely drown in the hurt by listening to this excellent blues. Very touching. Excellent band, Dave's guitar is most emotional ever and so is your voice - every word bleeds. There's simply nothing here that needs changing, lyrics, melody, chords, playing, singing, arrangement, mix, all are of the highest quality. The song is a masterpiece and should become a blues standard. And back to listen to it for one more time... Janne

The dark side of Marty - and you bring it across very well. I also love the interplay between the rhythmic guitar and Dave's fills - perfect timing. Good stuff ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/images/icons/default/thumbs_up.gif)

Actual "drowning in hurt" is inspiration for some of the best blues songs. I don't know if you are/were actually drowning in hurt, but good song nonetheless. Enjoyed the listen. Thanks, Mark. Yeah, a lot of Blues songs would have me drowning in hurt at quarter to three in the morning while wondering if I can fit all my stuff into a matchbox. Nah, I wasn't drowning, but I know a lot of folks who once were. Ironically it was the Blues that saved them. Sounds like a song that goes along with a bottle and a bar stool. This is not the standard upbeat Marty fare. Good job capturing the mood with the music and instrumentation. I think that note at 3:30 ("drowning") is the highest one I've heard you sing. Excellent song. PG Music should hire you and Dave to lay down some tracks. THanks, Scott. You're right. Although I've hit the G(4) a couple times for harmony where I can hide the flaws, this time I had to practice that F(4) over and over and wait for the right day to record. Sorry, when I arrived at MIRE my brain took me to Mac & Myre For Hire. That meant I had to stop, regather & start again which was fine because it's a cracker of a song with the magic combo of your voice n bass with Dave's axe. ACE Haha. Thanks, Ray. Not sure of your reference. But are you saying when you heard the word "mire" your brain was s distracted by a jingle or slogan? Ha, if so, that's perfect --for the jingle, I mean. That's exactly what commercials are supposed to do. If so, send the writer my congrats. Marty,
You have this whole blues thing down, my friend. Smoky, bruising emotion drips from every note. Dave slays on that guitar, but no surprise there. Excellent vocal work as well. It’s got it all! Killer blues tune.
Deej Hi, Deej. Thanks for the listen and the comment. We appreciate it. Nice blues, Marty!

A slow burn blues is, no surprise, a favorite of ours.
Love the rhymes within the lines.
Your vocal is oozing soul in this one, Marty! Even without the video we could envision this forlorn person of the lyric. And Dave’s searing solo added so well to that imagery.
The resophonic guitar was a cool addition and your bass is never too much or too little. Perfecto. As is the mix.
Excellent,
J&B

Liked the organ accent, the lyric idea/title…Marty, you sound so authentic, this must be an autobiographical reminiscence from your teenage years! Thanks, Tom. Thankfully it's not about me, but empathy and mirror neurons help me bring out the feelings of others I know. Thanks, James. Yeah, don't ya just love how Dave can wring out such anguish by doing what he loves. I truly appreciate your kind words, James. I've been waiting for this to be listed on this forum, because this is easily in the top 3 Marty songs Also one that has been playing in my head especially when I've been down or walking in the mire. Dave and I both got into this for sure. Ha, I can imagine you walking through the mire now, singing what comes to mind. Thanks, Arri.
