I watched a TV series from Australia called Sea Patrol. The music appeared more subdued than I hear on TV from the USA.
The storyline also appeared to reflect a significant difference in "rules of engagement" for the military.
Of course, this is just a TV drama, and it would not reflect what the real Australian Navy is like.
What differences from the USA do you guys see in TV music and storylines from Australia? You can Google Sea Patrol and at least look at a trailer.
Cheers,
Billy

“Amazing! I’ll be working with Jaco Pastorius, Charlie Parker, Art Tatum, and Buddy Rich, and you’re telling me it’s not that great of a gig? “Well…” Saint Peter, hesitated, “God’s got this girlfriend who thinks she can sing…”

Mrs. Notes and I spent 5 weeks in Australia a few years ago, and never watched any TV.
But we saw koalas, kangaroos, platypus, wallaby, echidnas, 2 ton crocodiles, Uluru, a symphony in the Sydney opera House, waterfalls, Great Barrier Reef, penguins, frogmouths, emus, and scores of other species of birds and marsupials. Why sit and watch TV when there is life I've never seen before and may never have a chance to see again?
We also met some friends in person that until then we only knew on the Internet
Of course, that's just me and Mrs. Notes. We don't watch TV at home, either. To each their own.

Hi Bob
Some of us are interested in producing music for the film industry, both TV and movies. I would like someone to provide some information about the film music business in Australia, if possible.
I also do not have the time or inclination to spend much time watching TV. I do have a special interest in the Navy, so that show caught my attention.
My interest in the show relates to the effect culture has on music. I also had a passing interest in the equipment on an Australian Navy ship. As some of you guys know, I have spent thousands of hours roaming around the oceans, so that should not be any surprise.
It isn't very easy to get the opportunity to produce music for the film industry here in the United States. Perhaps one could get that sort of work in other countries—just a thought.
I would love to go to Australia, meet Trev, and take the ten-cent tour of Melbourne. I have played with several other musicians in Australia in years past. The wildlife would be fantastic to see, but I suspect I would spend most of my time there on and under the water.
Perhaps because I have continued to improve my skills in Celestial Navigation, I could get an invite to pass on some skills to their Navy. In 2006, the United States Navy stopped teaching Celestial Navigation. In 2016, after losing millions of dollars due to the infallibility of electronic navigation and the ease with which state actors and others can disrupt GPS, they started teaching the skill again. The United States Navy has found it super challenging to teach that skill to young people who see the bridge as some sort of video game.
One final thought: I regularly read that people on this forum are looking for ways to make money producing music. Working for a film company in Australia may not be possible. But it could be, who knows? We live in an ever-increasing connected world where much is now possible. One thing I know for sure is that there are some really good musicians in Australia who are super nice people to collaborate with.
Best of luck to everyone,
Billy

Like I said, to each their own.
I hope you are successful at producing music for TV and movies.
I don't watch TV, but I do some movies, and the music is always paid attention to and evaluated. It can enhance the emotional content of the media.
Sometimes I think the music is overpowering and masking the dialog, and other times, not enough. I suppose everyone has their own 'sweet spot' between the two.
It must be a tough nut to crack, though. Fewer opportunities than radio or Internet music. I suppose it would help if you figured out how to meet the right people.
In Australia we rented a small camper van, to give us the freedom of movement. I did spend a day skin diving on the Great Barrier Reef. The guide took us to a protected area, where only a few boats are allowed and no scuba. Fine with me, I can free dive to 65 feet and most of the interesting life forms are more in the 30 feed zone.
I've done a lot of diving, both scuba and snorkel, in Florida and The Caribbean. I was amazed at the similarity of the life in the South Pacific to that of the Atlantic. More like variations of the theme.
If you want to do it, I advise you to go as soon as possible, as there is so much coral bleaching going on now. I don't go diving anymore because it isn't the same as the water I grew up in. But then that wasn't the same as the previous generation, either.
There is enough left to enjoy, but every year there is less.
Australia was the most different place I've visited, mainly because of the wildlife. But what I liked most about Australia was the people. Friendly, open, and at the same time civilized. Need to change lanes in traffic? Put on your blinker, and they will slow down and let you in every time. Say "hi" to a stranger on the street, and you might end up talking to your new friend for hours. I've been to all 50 states and every continent but Antarctica, and if I were to move out of the USA, that would be my first choice. But I'm not going anywhere, despite it's problems (and every country has problems) I love it here.
