Message: Hi all,

I'm creating my first UserTrack in Band-in-a-Box 2024 and I noticed a problem. The original track is in stereo and it sounds fine in the preview, but when I replace it with a RealTrack and regenerate it, the format automatically changes to mono with only one waveform.

My UserTrack is only 4 chords containing a virtual guitar recorded in stereo with Cubase and I wonder if the problem could be because Band-in-a-Box needs to generate variations and can't do it in stereo.

I've checked some settings, but I can't find an option that forces stereo after regeneration. Has anyone else faced a similar problem or have any suggestions on what to check?

Thanks in advance for your help! 😊🎶

RealTracks can be monophonic or stereophonic. The RealTracks Picker has a column that displays a "M" for mono RealTracks and "S" for stereo RealTracks. You can select the column name and RealTracks will be sorted into "M" and "S" groups.

Generally speaking RealTracks for acoustic instruments such as wind or brass instruments, banjo, guitar or bass are monophonic recordings. Electric instruments or acoustic piano can be mono or stereo depending on how the instrument adds to the song. For example a piano maybe recorded in stereo to separate the playing of the left hand from the right hand or in mono to place it more into the background.

Band-in-a-Box does not automatically substitue RealTracks based on mono or stereo tracks.

May I ask why you want to replace your User track with a RealTrack?

maybe I didn't explain myself well, my goal is to create a customized usertrack for example of one minute with an audio file that is stereo, once loaded in band in a box it plays in mono my format used and exported with Cubase is .wav 44100 16bit and I also tried with 24bit why does this happen? I understood the creation procedure very well I put inside the folder D:\bb\RealTracks\UserTracks with the .sgu file with the same names and it is recognized by bb

Mono or stereo audio files depend on your audio interface and the recording and audio file export settings in Cubase. Most DAWs default to exporting an audio file in the same mono / stereo track format the audio was recorded in. In other words, mono signal in then mono track out; stereo signal in then stereo track out.

Some audio interfaces duplicate an input and send a monophonic signal to both the right and left outputs so a DAW records a stereo track even though it is recording a monophonic instrument. Others default to one audio input feeding the right channel while the other input feeds the left channel. When DAWs are forced (through default or user settings) to record a stereo track with a monophonic input, one channel will have a waveform while the other channel will have a flat line.

There is no standard for how audio interfaces routes input signals. Unfortunately bit depth has nothing to do with an audio file being mono or stereo.

What are you recording; vocal or what instrument? Are you using one or more microphones? What audio interface are you using? Have you looked at your exported audio file waveform(s) with any other program beside Band-in-a-Box?
