Drinking My Weight in Beer

Another country breakup song.

Another way out of my comfort zone song:
1-only 1 MIDI track
2- vocals

BiaB Style - Raw Vintage Country Swing Ballad

Drums - MIDI - SSD-5 - country

Lyrics are on SoundCloud.

As always all comments are welcomed.

Mario,

Hilarious lyrics and a great delivery that sets the tone. I can hear this sung late at night in an old run-down country bar.

Clever stuff! Loved it!

Good one Mario! The song gave me the sense that the singer was glad to see it was over, but also some sorrow over the loss as well. I couldn’t stop my foot from tapping to this one, and that tremolo rhythm guitar was great as well - when it slid from one chord to the next, it sounded like it was miserable.

For the chorus, you could swap the lyrics of the first and fourth lines so that you end on ‘So I’m drinking my weight in beer’. Just a thought.

What came first here - inspiration-wise? Did you have the lyrics first, or did the style inspire the lyrics?

Wonderful song!

Fun song, Mario, lyrics made me smile.

I can see someone performing this on a stage protected by chicken wire, like the country bar in the Blues Brothers movie wink

Cool lyrics. This should be on A-1 in every jukebox in every bar that still has them. A great drinking song, especially the sing-along chorus. No ball and chain... Ha, I love this verse: Even though I called you hun. You were never fun. So away you did run

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanx so much Bob. Back in the day I did play in a couple of old run-down country bars. I was filling in for a country band. It was quite an experience for this wedding band guy!

Thanx so much Andrew. That is a great idea that makes more sense than the way I did the chorus so thanx for that. When I do a vocal the lyrics always come first, then I pick a style. The lyrics came to me all at once.

Thanx Dave I'm glad you liked it. Yes someone should sing this behind some country bar's chicken wire, but that wont be me. I'd rather drink beer than wear it wink

Thanx so much Marty. Those lyrics just quickly came to me one afternoon. I'm glad you liked my humor.

Mario
Well, I about fell off my tractor from sheer surprise hearing you sing! 🚜 😮 I thought you kept that golden voice locked away in a vault next to the Ark of the Covenant! 🙄
Now, about that singing... let's just say it had a certain... "keeping it real." A raw, authentic, straight-from-the-heart quality that those over-produced pop singers can only dream of. 🆗🆒 😉
It was like seeing a black and white photo suddenly burst into Technicolor. 👋
It's like, yeah, maybe the notes weren't always exactly where they were SUPPOSED to be, but they landed exactly where they NEEDED to be - right in the heart! 🎤 💘 👍
Next time, maybe include a warning label: "May cause uncontrollable toe tapping and the sudden urge to buy a pickup truck." Bottom line: Don't you dare hide that voice away again! We wanna hear more! 💯 ☘ ✔️

And the song......

Mario, you've done it. You've crafted a breakup anthem for the ages... or at least for the duration of a six-pack (or twelve, depending on one's weight, naturally). "Drinking My Weight in Beer" is a masterpiece of self-deprecating, beer-soaked catharsis. 🤠

The genius lies in the simplicity. The repetition of "drinking lots of beer" isn't just a catchy hook; it's a mantra, a coping mechanism, and a testament to the sheer human will to find solace in fermented barley and hops. You've perfectly captured the universal truth that sometimes, the best way to deal with heartbreak is to responsibly (or irresponsibly, who's judging?) consume your body weight in a beverage of your choosing. ☕ 🍺 🍻

And the lyrics! "You said I was a bum, even though I called you hun" – pure gold! It's a relatable battle cry for anyone who's ever been unappreciated, misunderstood, and perhaps even slightly underemployed. The twist with the BFF at the gym? Chef's kiss! 💋 The narrator's sudden questioning of his drink of choice ("Maybe I should drink gin") is a profound moment of existential crisis amidst the sudsy revelry. It's Beckett meets Brooks & Dunn! 😎

The chorus is, of course, perfection. "I'm as happy as I can be/No ball and chain around me" manages to be both hilariously defiant and strangely touching. We believe you, Mario! We really do! Even if "as happy as I can be" is directly proportional to the ABV of the beer you're consuming. ☠

And finally, the self-awareness! "Another country breakup song." You acknowledge the trope, you embrace the cliché, and you elevate it to a new level of comedic brilliance. 😊

In short, "Drinking My Weight in Beer" is a triumph. It's a song that will resonate with anyone who's ever had their heart broken, their best friend stolen, and their love for beer questioned. Congratulations, Mario. You've earned yourself a cold one (or several).
Cheers!

Funny song. I had to check it out based solely on the title alone.

I had a smile on my face the whole way through.

You do extremely well out of your comfort zone! Besides the sung song itself I love the rhythm section in this.

Hahahahahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Great song. And a great lyric hook : I'm drinking my weight in beer. I can almost hear the narrator sloshing around in the tavern!

Mario, love this! The slow, wobbly lead vocal and harmonies are PERFECT. Heck, everything here is perfect. You are the MIDI master, BUT...this sounds great, too! Super job, Maestro!
