Well, I think opening the BiaB file in RB would give better timing options when it came down to the audio/video timing. The time display can be set to frames for SMPTE. Not sure if BiaB can do that.
If you know what frame you want the scene to change on it makes things a lot easier. Just might get a better mix there also.
As far as video software, I'm not qualified to answer. I use a few, but haven't yet tried making a music video. More along the lines of just editing preselected music to fit a set length video(s). Anything I've had to do could be done in RB and Nero.

Windows Movie Maker. If you have Windows, you already have it.
I know many people who have lots of views of their YouTube (one guy with over 150,000 YouTube subscribers) and he used WMM on many of his videos.
Some look down their nose at this program, but it's probably all you want to take on to begin with.

I was doing fine with WMM, although I was only using still jpegs - not video clips - aligned to an audio track.
However, as soon as I tried to introduce the neat transition effects that the programme offers, the timing of the transitions was completely destroyed.
So I went back to using the basic image tranisitions.
I never bothered to troubleshoot the problem or find out whether it is a common experience among new WMM users.

Not anymore.
Now a part of Windows Live package. Win7 doesn't necessarily come with it.

I recently went through this. After spending about $100 for Adobe Premiere elements 8 (which is a resource hog that runs about as fast as grass grows, even on a fast computer) I discovered that I already had Windows movie maker on my XP and Vista machines. My Win7 machine did not come with any movie making software at all. Bummer.
All things considered, if you have it, Windows movie maker is free, very easy to use, easy to figure out, runs fairly fast, and does 90% of what many more expensive programs do. At the very least it will get your feet wet. Once you start yearning for specific features that it lacks, THEN start looking at commercial software that has those features.
If your computer doesn't have any movie maker software, I think microsoft's site offers downloads of several such programs, which might be runnable on a newer machine in compatibility mode.
Also, CNET and download.com have movie maker programs available (if you trust download sites). And if you've bought a digital camera or video recorder recently it may have come bundled with a movie maker app. Check the CD.

Hey Ed, you might want to ask CharlieMcG (aka Sparkplug Johnny). He told me on an old thread what he uses for those great videos he makes but my mind is blank now......

What I have experience with-
ULead Move Factory 4.x - Good for editing movies and combining video segments and burning DVD's (what it was designed for). Separate audio tracks, must be burned to DVD though on the version I have.
Nero 9 - Has two audio tracks and one video track, but video track can contain multiple videos with nice transition effects. Also makes very nice Utube type compressed videos (mp4) with small size/great quality factor.
Adobe Premier Elements- multiple audio and video tracks, can make very nice movies from multiple scenes and audio tracks. As mentioned, it is a huge resource hog and got many lockups when doing final exports of large movies on newer dual-core machines, but is pro-level video software when used on a dedicated machine.
Adobe Flash - can do multiple videos and audio, limited effects, and must be converted to Flash file in the end. However they can be reonverted.
Arcsoft Showbiz - Has two audio and one video/audio track, can do transitions, mainly a DVD creation tool.
Power Director - came with a Samsung camera that surprised me, very simple with two audio and one video with transitions. Does a nice job to DVD, WMVV or MP4.
WMM- basic tool, easy to use, capable and free.
Pain as it is, Premier is the most sophisticated.

before I bought Adobe Premiere Elements, I did a lot of research. It really DOES have capability that other programs don't have. For example, I wanted the ability to put thought bubbles above the heads of animated characters. Easy to do in stills, not so easy to maintain the thought bubble through a range of frames. Adobe is the only one I found that could do that. But HOW to do it is not in the manual. And I couldn't find it in the help. (it may be there, but searching for "thought bubble" didn't yield any hits)
I had to go to their forum to search the posts to find out how to do it. The procedure is complicated, and I would never have intuitively figured it out without instructions. In fact, things that are simple to do in windows movie maker seem complicated and unintuitive to me in Adobe Premiere Elements.
I got lockups on short video clips recorded from my daughter's phone, even though my computer exceeds the minimum requirements for running the soiftware
I emailed the company with questions, complaints and finally a request for my money back, but they never responded to any of them.
I wanted to install it on my music computer, but it requires an internet connection to validate it... so I had to install it on a computer that was not my first choice.
But at least with Adobe you get what the box says. If you read the fine print on many of the other products, core features described in the ad copy are only available of you pay extra for add-in software

With MOST Adobe products you will get more helpful info from other users than the company.
They are a pain to buy from, poor support, but make products that do well beyond what most others can do.
If you think Premier was tough, start trying to program in Flash with ActionScript .. things could be much more intuitive.
To me, even Photoshop is very unintuitive.
FWIW, in Premier I found most errors went away by adding another step; I had to do the export as a few smaller videos then re-import those and combine them, keeping track of exact frame numbers in the process. This on a project I was helping a video student with (daughters boyfriend).
It was locking up both his Vista 32bit 3 gig machine and my WWin7 64 bit 4 gig machine otherwise.

Thanks for the great comments. I have used WMM. It's easy and works well. One problem though you can't exchange and sync the audio which is what I want to do.
I'll have to look into Nero 9. It sounds like it may do what I want. Just learning.
Wouldn't it be nice if PTs had a video track you could sync music too. Heaven!

Some DAWs do this, but they cost a little more.. 'bout $600 bucks more.
You may find a 30 day trial of Nero if you go to the Nero site..

Thanks, Sundance. You are so kind. I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio which I think is great. It's the only program I've ever used for video so I can't compare it to others mentioned here. You can get it for less than a $100. Compare it to Sony Vegas Pro, which sells for close to $600 and you'll be surprised at the difference between them (very little). I have a friend that uses the high priced video spread from Adobe and he is impressed with the results I can get from the program. Great plugins come with it and it is very intuitive to use. I highly recommend it.
I'm finishing up a video with it right now and will post it here when I am finished.

One more thing I would like to be able to do besides being able to sync music to a video. I would like to be able to paste an image of me singing the song while the video or slideshow is going on in the background. Sort of an image within and image thing. Can Nero 9 or the Sony program do this?

Regarding the second question of picture within a picture: WMM can't do that to my knowledge.. (if somebody knows otherwise, please let me know) . Adobe Premiere Elements can, and apparently Sony Vegas can too, because Charlie's videos include such insertions.
If you search the web for MOVIE MAKER software, and go to each site individually to read the feature list, you can get a pretty good overview of which package has the features you want. Based on my research, I decided that Adobe had all the features I wanted in a movie making software package... unfortunately, the advertising copy doesn't offer any clues about intuitive use, slowness or support. You have to find that out from users.
FWIW, I just joined the Yahoo group for Adobe Premiere Elements. A brief look at the posts tells me I'm not the only one who is disappointed by the speed, support and documentations for this software package. User groups probably exist for other software packages too, and that may be a good place to learn more about user satisfaction for those products.

I don't think Nero 9 does it either, without using an outside editor to accomplish this. It has one video track as I recall, no way to add the other picture using just Nero 9.
