Why isn't there a simple UNDO. I spent 2 hrs creating an arrangement with the right chords. I was trying to create a Melody, bcuz I already had the chord progressions. All I did was change the Song Style (I think). I'm not quite sure. I usually just play with the Style Picker after inputting the chords. Now, I have to go back and copy all 70+ chords into the song. I mean, with any other DAW if I make a mistake all I have to do is hit Undo. NOTHING like that here. mad

Sorry for the aggravation, happened to me more than a few times. What I'll do before going on an excursion is save the file. If I decide to save my excursion I'll give it a new name. If not, I'll just reload the original saved file over the failed excursion. A little clunky but it works for me.

Same here - been there - done that.

There is an undo for an individual chord but not for anything else, at least to my knowledge.
If you put an undo for styles in the wishlist forum you will get a +1 from me.

I frequently change styles without losing the chords of the song, so I suspect some additional action may have been taken. When you try such an experiment again, please note the steps you take so we can try to replicate this.

And of course DC Ron’s advice should be heeded by all. But we have all suffered something similar.

+1 to writing a post in the Wishlist adding the capability to undo a style change.

King Conga,
from slightly different angle, I share your concern. In my view, you should be able to undo any "action".
I don't believe proper "undo" function requires a "wish". To me - it's a bug. With all other software I have used, I am able to undo the last step(s). Even if a single "action" does multiple tasks.

Common exceptions to Undo are UI views and UI customization and things like solos/mutes.

I change styles all the time, after I got the chords and structure. I never lose anything.

Before I go through other styles to see if something happens to work better, I take a few seconds and write down the name of the style. And don't forget there's a "Recently used styles" list in one of the drop-down menus. I never use it but I remember seeing it.

I am guessing either OP opened a song with embedded chords, thinking it's a style, or loaded another style demo on top of custom chords. Can't use Undo in both cases.

That's why we need a strong Undo, as many actions in BIAB currently are destructive editing. Or if action involves irreversible process have a warning with a "do not display this again" check box. I would still prefer a strong undo to any workarounds or warnings. The way, I am sure it is expected by most users to work....

My workaround is to Save As every time I do something new.

Before I got into a consistent workflow, that saved my but a few times but I've not used it in years.

In another thread, King Conga mentioned he may have accidentally used the Songpicker instead of the Stylepicker, so you both may be right that other or additional actions were taken. Opening a song can't be undone in any program that I'm aware of. If we're misunderstanding, King Cobra would you kindly provide your best recollection of the sequence of events that you wanted to undo, and I'll see if I can replicate the issue or offer any guidance.

There are lots of things that can be undone - adding a RealTrack, generating, deleting bars, etc. Most things in BB can in fact be undone. One of the few exceptions is loading a style, which to my knowledge is a longstanding request. I'll add a note to that request, referencing this forum thread (and the other one King Cobra started in the wishlist).

Simon,
"Opening a song can't be undone in any program that I'm aware of."
That is not entirely true. "Any program" would open a "second, third, etc." (song/document) without affecting original. That's the reality. If anything destructive is being done to the project - warning is usually displayed. That's how most programs that I am aware of function.

The best practice in my view, since BIAB can't host 2 or more songs at the same time (Unlike most programs), is to have a proper Undo that reverts last action.

Simon,

As I said before, I'm not entirely sure what I did. So, let's just leave that comment out for now. My bad. Let's pls just concentrate on this thought.

"The best practice in my view, since BIAB can't host 2 or more songs at the same time (Unlike most programs), is to have a proper Undo that reverts last action."

So, please, ANY keystroke that came IMMEDIATELY before clicking Undo is the command that will be reversed.

I just replied in the other thread, so I won't repeat that in full here - however, from my findings there are very few DAWs that work that way. Most of the ones I tried were only capable of hosting one song/project at a time.

I certainly agree that the undo function is missing some things (which I've created reports for). However, some things physically cannot be undone, such as closing a song or opening a new one without saving.

I agree. I have created bug reports and forwarded them to the developers, and in the case of being unable to undo a style change I've added that as a priority item.
