Well, I honestly have no idea what I was doing or thinking on this or even what genre it is, if it even has one. It kind of happened when I was working on Sinful Savior with Ron and we were asking the rhetorical question: can drums and bass ever be too loud?

So for this thing, I shoved the bass and the drums all the way up, because while I was researching and studying some mastering references, the drums and bass are always WAY UP. I have thus decided to focus on a few songs now where the bass and drums will be a lot more prominent. So I guess I am on a another journey.

Have no idea what to think of this, but decided to post it anyway. What the heck. At least it is loud.

OUT OF TOUCH

By David Snyder

https://soundcloud.com/david-snyder-gigs4/out-of-touch

V1

I’m wanna fly but I’m stuck on the ground
Pushing through the crowd I don't make a sound
Music in my head that I can’t hear
Dreams I wanna see but they’re not very clear
Standing right here nothing in my hands
Who said this was the promised land

CH

When everything I want
Everything I need
Seems so out of reach
And why do I feel
So unreal
Like every emotion
I have to steal
Penny for your thoughts
I don’t ask much
Just tell me why
I feel so out of touch

V2

I want to run but I'm stuck at the door
Punching at this wall like I’ve done before
Lies in my head that won't go away
I'm trying to talk but I’ve nothing to say
Screaming for you but it's just too late
Who in the world could live this way

CH

When everything I want
Everything I need
Seems so out of reach
And why do I feel
So unreal
Like every emotion
I have to steal
Penny for your thoughts
I don’t ask much
Just tell me why
I feel so out of touch

Bridge:

Maybe I was born after my time
I don’t see any mountains that I want to climb
I’m not afraid of losing my soul
But baby, I don’t want to lose my mind
No don’t make me lose my mind

CH

Cause everything I want
Everything I need
Seems so out of reach
And why do I feel
So unreal
Like every emotion
I have to steal
Penny for your thoughts
I don’t ask much
Just tell me why
Just tell me why
I feel so out of touch

Hi David!

I didn't think the drums and bass were over the top in this song - I would say that vocal and the muted(?) guitar were more prominent. I could hear the bass playing 8th notes, but not super prominent - of course this could be based on what I'm listening through as well (closed back headphones). The drums had an 80s feel to them - like a gated snare hitting on 2 and 4. Overall, it sounded like the type of track that Billy Idol would put out - and I mean that in a good way.

I loved the falsetto in the chorus "feel so out of touch".

David, supersonic pulsebeat on this one. Definitely channeling a bit of David Byrne and that ever-so-cool 80's sound that never gets old to me. Very nice lyrical twists, too. A different sound from you, but...you have so many already! I'd go blow dry my hair now, but time has taken its toll...

Love this song!

Needs more bass AND needs more level when you REACH for those high notes too.
Reminds me of things and reminds me of you.
A bit of de-essing because the reverb & delay go nuts occasionally but COOOOOOOOOOL thang David.

If I was writing a review it would go like this:

"Out of Touch" by Mr David Snyder is a wonderfully nostalgic and unexpectedly catchy track. From the very first synth chords, I was transported back to the glory days of 80s synth-pop. Mr Snyder perfectly captures the essence of the era, with a sound that's both familiar and refreshing.

The driving beat is instantly infectious, making it impossible not to tap your foot along. The layered synths are skillfully arranged, creating a rich and textured soundscape that's both energetic and atmospheric. The melodic lines are memorable and well-crafted, weaving through the arrangement with a sense of purpose and building to a satisfying chorus.

While the title "Out of Touch" might suggest something negative, the overall vibe of the song is undeniably upbeat and optimistic. It's a testament to Mr Snyder's ability to create a track that's both retro and relevant.
This will appeal to any fan of synthwave, 80s music, or just good music in general, "Out of Touch" is definitely worth a listen. Highly recommended!

When I opened this post it was at RayC's comment "Needs more bass..." He is one of my favorites so I expected to agree. Then I scrolled up to read your post. Uh-huh. Nice touch. Some of the best songs are written without knowing what the heck it's all about. This one shows your many talents on full, David. The bass is kinda drowning (--hey, you didn't hear that from me). Maybe because it's pounding 8th-notes on the root. This is a good song. Well written and I like the vocals a bunch.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I had to put the headphones on, because I couldn't hear the drums and the bass on my speakers. Now I hear them, I guess I would have needed a subwoofer. Vocals could be mixed lower. But despite those minor distraction, I can hear a very good old synth pop song, I'm back to my favourite decaded, the 80's. Certainly a love child of Billy Idol, David Byrne and Paul Hewson laugh Enjoyed those falsetto notes, really courageous singing.

The lyrics describe the desperate feeling of an outsider lost in the world or the only clear-headed in a lost world, I can empathize with the pain.

Dublin guitars rule!

Cool 80's vibe. Nailed.
The drums and bass sound good on our monitors -- they have 10" woofers.
We've been pulling up drums and bass since we started using reference songs for mastering.
FWIW we like Izotopes Tonal Balance for checking such things by genre.

Would love to see the vox FX chain ... Really different. Fascinating actually.

The adventure continues!

Hi, David.

I enjoyed it - high energy and pop guitars.

Like others, I thought it needed more low end, and maybe even more drums.

Fun! smile
