NO. A power chord is just the tonic and fifth of a chord. Thus there is no minor or major so an A5 can be a substitute for an A or an Am chord. Note technically it is not a chord as a chord must have three different notes, but I digress.

Also if it sounds good it is good so if it sounds good to you then go with it.
