Truth is I only use the barest functionality these days - chuck a few chords in pick a style.

Anyways....I have just realised (My bad?) that as a piano player of a decent level, it does me a world of good to take a phrase here and there, of the piano player, on a real track and emulate him/her. This involves looping a couple of bars.

How can I stop loosing the particular re-generation of these bars - in a non flaky way?

It's so easy for band in a box to loose settings if one steps out of line.

ZeroZero,
Not sure what you specifically mean by "flaky". Here is my workflow. Video is from last year, still relevant. Skip to 3:30 for partial regen . Once you use partial regen track will become semi-frozen. You will still be able to regenerate parts of it with same partial regen method, but you will not lose any particular segment that you like (because track is semi-frozen)

My workflow now is,

1) choose a style (being careful not to fall in love with any riffs until later on)
2) enter all chords for all sections (verses/choruses/bridge) and save it
3) finalize things like tempo, key, rests, etc. and save it
4) freeze it and save it
5) work through each bar as needed doing partial regen and save it

Thank you lads. I tried the video it does not woerk here - its probably my PC.

I have never bothered with freeze before. The narrative around this seems to be about freezing tracks - not bars.
What I am wondering is can I find a way to manage, or freeze, a couple of bars.

John John (how ye doing mate!) mentioned a 'partial regeneration'. I don't know how to do this and am not finding it via help.

Cheers Z!

1) freeze track and then select some bars on that track
2) press F8 or right click on one of the selected bars and choose Multiriff
3) at top of dialog choose track you wish to regen
4) in bottom right area click Next button to get a new riff for the selected bars and repeat to hear another
5) you can then use Previous and Next buttons to review the riffs offered
6) when (and if) you find one you like click the Accept button while that riff is active
7) click Close button to dismiss this dialog and your new riff should be present in the selected bars even if that track was frozen

I find it sometimes helpful to solo the track before I do this so I am only hearing the desired track while auditioning riffs.

Hope that helps!

Achieved.

2) press F8 or right click on one of the selected bars and choose Multiriff Never looked at multiriff before, thanks.

3) at top of dialog choose track you wish to regen
Done

4) in bottom right area click Next button to get a new riff for the selected bars and repeat to hear another.

When I do this the section does not loop my two bar loop. I have no access to F10 whilst the pop up window is open. I suppose you have to keep pressing the Play button ovcer and over to audition?

5) you can then use Previous and Next buttons to review the riffs offered
Got it thanks

6) when (and if) you find one you like click the Accept button while that riff is active
Got it thanks

Yes this has helped thanks. The only issue is the looping, which IMO is nogtoriusly flakey. I am always having trouble with it. TheSp[ace bar function will not loop anything on restart, even F10 can fall out if you date to click something somewhere else. I long for two virtual pins - on the chord sheet, one at the beginning of the loop and one at the end that forever stay put, until de-clicked.

Anyways I now have something! Thank you both.

I've given up on hoping BIAB will ever follow standards or work logically and consistently! I just find the quickest way to get tracks and then move them to my DAW. I don't have enough years left to waste them on this software! If the tracks weren't so damn good I'd have left long ago. But they are and I'm still here! laugh

Agreed. As a long term user I have found that hardly anything works as expected. I now restrict myself to typing in chords and playback. I run my sounds outside of BIAB, never record using it, never use it with VSTs. Playing Real tracks it is superb though. It's like a Ferrari strapped to a raft of leaky oil drums. Yes it is great. Yes it is terribly flakey, obscure, inconsistent and WIN 95 in design. It's sad.

ZeroZero. I urge you to find a "way" to watch the video. You wanted to control regeneration(s), that what it shows.

On the design, it was said that PG team is exploring options to update UI / Workflow. There are several pinned threads on the subject in Wishlist. Please take a look. See if anything you want to add to requests.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
