RE PERSONAL INTERNET SECURITY.

ive been testing opera out as well as protonmail.
i'm kinda impressed with both.
both are 'fast'.
both have various security features includeing hiding ip address and other security measures.
i'm still testing out....so good so far.

what are other pg users useing ??
anything else users recommend ??

its just there are so many net threats out there....gotta protect ones family.

thanks and happiness.

I use a VPN service. It's not bulletproof, but better than none.

For Internet Browsers, I use Firefox or Brave. I tweak the settings for security.

For e-mail, I have my own domain name and a webhost that uses very good security measures.

notes.

thanks.

do your own research but so far im pretty impressed with
both the opera security eg free vpn built in as well ive been useing proton mail for testing. and its the best email free ive ever tried. also there is proton free vpn which im currently testing...so far very impressed.

ive done a ton of research over several months useing reputable sites like techradar and others.
but if anyone knows bettersolutions feel free to comment.
some might call me paranoid...but its the result of working in tech...gotta protect the family in this crazy world.

i dont have time for being on various forums due family and music projects. the only site im on is here at pg which i like.

thanks once again notes. ...respect.

Being safe isn't paranoid.

Since I am in business, selling style and fake e-disks for Band-in-a-Box, I feel I have the responsibility to protect the information my customers provide.

The VPN keeps the info encrypted, I have the httpS on my URL, I use a secure shopping cart server, and even though I'm careful, I never download my customer's credit card information. It's safest at the shopping cart site with a team of experts.

I chose the most secure rated cart and also to protect my customers, I don't keep accounts, your card info needs to be entered every time. Inconvenient? Yes. Safer for you? Yes.

The information I do download from you, like name, address, and so forth, gets moved to a computer that isn't connected to the Internet. If it's not there, hackers can't get it.

I don't call it paranoid, I call it careful.

If it weren't for my customers, I don't know if I'd be this careful, but I owe it to them.

I agree with Notes in that "Being safe isn't paranoid".

I have Windows Security, Anti-Malwarebytes, Anti-Malwarebytes' VPN, and cCleaner on my computers. I also have Netgear Armor powered by Bitdefender on our phones and my router. I also have multiple backups of my drives. I never look at any email from people and/or companies I don't know and I look at the URLs of those I do know. I have second verification on places I do business with like Amazon and Paypal. I visit a good number of music related sites and get a lot of email from them however I never go to those hacker or dirty picture/movie type sites. If anyone can suggest something more that I can do please do so.

mario and notes.

its a darn shame we gotta protect ourselves with added security software and costs dont ya think.
cos the net is a wonderfull thing.

as a tecchie ive tried to think of various solutions....
but come up short cos every solution is a big brother government solution it seems.
Very sad state of affairs. all i want is a happy world.
im a romantic i guess.

I recently gave a talk on security and my advice was "Don't be paranoid, but maybe act as if you are".

I have a book on firewalls and there's a cartoon in the front of a very haggard looking man saying "sure I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?"

Paranoia is irrational.
Remain rational.

I figure there is a place between being an easy mark and living in a fortress.

By not being the 'low hanging fruit' I figure the bad people and bots will go elsewhere. So I keep what I hope is enough anti-malware and exercise what I hope is sufficient caution to be safe.

And I go extra to keep my customers secure, after all, they deserve that.

I don't have enough assets for someone to spend a lot of time trying to get to me. I play music for a living - 'nuff said.

notes.

the whole thing is a dogs breakfast.
probably one day governments will insists that no pc can access the net without haveing internally an uncrackeable identifying chip...lol
so people can be tracked.
but of course this has all sorts of big brother implications....

problems are so rampant these days that
i dont blame anyone to take action to protect their families any way they can.

happiness.
