I did some research on this over a year ago and at the time thought DistroKid was the best possibility. However, I'm just not interested in trying out any distributor for 2 reasons. The first is that I started self-publishing books in 2013, initially very hopeful, but over time I found that there was just so many millions of people worldwide producing eBooks on a regular basis that anything published just becomes another minuscule needle in a stack of minuscule needles. I haven't checked figures for a few years now, but last time I did Amazon alone had 49 million eBooks alone on sale - and the only books they'll promote are already bestsellers. Music is even worse as many thousands of new music tracks get posted daily. My 2nd reason is that I'm a UK pensioner living on State Pension and thus I have to declare any extra income, so even making a little money can cause oodles of bureaucratic problems as the system is designed to stop any kind of benefits payments, even when there's no good reason to. I sell on average about 1.5 books a year and as I posted free copies to friends worldwide after I first published paperbacks I've made less in royalties than I've paid out, thus my self-publishing is classed as a hobby from which no profit is expected to be made. You, Beth, are one of the few persons I know who may understand this, but how successful in any field with any kind of enterprise, dosh-related or not, you are doesn't depend on how much work you put in, or on how positive or enthusiastic you are (as 'new agers' like to think) it all depends on one's prarabdha karma. As great sages of many spiritual traditions affirm - and it's absolutely true in my experience over more than 5 decades - if it's in your 'script' it'll happen; if it isn't it won't.

... In the end, I decided to just take a slower step forward with Soundcloud and up to an Artist account. Gonna focus on youtube and Soundcloud to share...which means (for showcase folks), I've configured a new browser profile that will allow me to now watch your vids too. Hi Beth - yeah I did the same as well - Artist Pro on SC. It's good knowing I don't have to recycle my 180 minutes quota anymore, and also upload new mixes of songs without losing stats or comments. I've had some SC sharks listening (I assume they are sharks - or parasites) and offering to get me more listens, but I've ignored them so far and just happy they are adding to my plays, likes and follows. Hi! I understand how you feel about music distributors today – many artists have reported feeling “exploited” or under-supported.
To your question:
Which music distributors are truly “artist-centric”?
Platforms like Amuse, DistroKid, and TuneCore are trusted by many independent artists because they have transparent policies, reasonable fees, and pay royalties fairly quickly.
Additionally, Bandcamp is known for supporting artists directly, allowing them to keep most of their revenue and build fan communities without complicated middlemen.
If you want a decentralized platform like Wavlake but it’s difficult to use, you can try following emerging music blockchain projects or music NFT platforms, although these technologies are still quite new and sometimes not really user-friendly for the average user.
Are music distributors “taking advantage” of artists?
This is a common problem, especially with small distributors or platforms with unclear terms. You should read the contract carefully, especially about revenue sharing, recording ownership, and how they handle copyright.
My advice:
Prioritize reputable distributors who are transparent about fees and artist benefits.
Consider using channels like Bandcamp in parallel to sell music directly to fans.
Join independent artist communities on social media to learn real-world experiences.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
