I use Cakewalk by Bandlab as my DAW. On three vocal tracks each recorded at different times of the day, I have a 'click' appearing at exactly the same time on each track, but not on other tracks in the project. I can see it on each of the three waveforms. 1. Does anyone have suggestions how to remove (or lessen) this click? If not, I can punch in, so no biggy. 2. Do you have any theory(s) how this click could have gotten there in the same place on separate tracks? Andrew D

Yep.... this has worked for me, even in the middle of a word.
Since you have 3 tracks..... I'll tell you what I did for one track.
Go to the click. Put your time line right before the click. Zoom in as much as needed to get the click large enough. Now, drag across the click and highlight just the click. You can now do one of several options. You can use Process to mute, lower the gain or you can insert nodes in the volume envelope.
I've had success with this method with the result being the click disappears and the reverb on the track doesn't let you hear the millisecond silence.
If you can hear the silent spot..... Simply repeat the same process on the second track. Use the volume envelope to pull the entire track down except for the one word with the click. Now, use the nudge function and bump it one nudge to the left placing it slightly ahead of the first track. You'll have to experiment with the number of nudges but the goal is to get the second track to play slightly ahead of the main vox track to cover the hole in the main vox track.
Done correctly, you won't hear a thing out of the ordinary.
Normally, I only need to use the first method with a surgical volume envelope.
Let me know if it works.

I have done exactly as Herb described. If you have Melodyne (I'm not sure that Cakewalk includes it) and you hear the silent spot you can extent the note prior to the gap to cover up the gap. The mono version of Melodyne will work in this instance.
Good luck

amongst pg free dxi plugins is a plugin that can deal with clicks and other issues. depending on source material it can work rather well. ive used it sometimes in conjunction with herbs method. the latter for tough situations.
anyhoo sometime give the pg plug in a look see. See the pg manual.

om Thanx om, I had forgotten about this plugin. I used it when I digitized some of my vinyl albums to CDs. Yes, it worked very well for clicks.

Never used it, but THINK the DXi referenced above is "PG Click and Pop Remover". Might be worth a look...

Thanks Herb, Mario, Alf (om) and Ron! It's not yet been 24 hours and you guys have already delivered - bless you all! And who knew BIAB would have such a tool? It's the gift that keeps on giving. I'm off to give it a whirl while you all slumber in other hemispheric-ness. Andrew D

Another option is to place place the cursor right in the middle of the click & split the item, then adjust the fade on/out to eliminate it. I don't often use modern Cakewalk but know that the split & fade functions are common & this method works a treat in Reaper. Another option, if the click is in the middle of a sound, is to magnify greatly and automate the volume/level for that spot. Finally, the ultra obvious but best said than neglected, if it's not in a vocal sound CUT it out. OH, if you have a noise fingerprint function, like ReaFir Subtract in Reaper, you can sample the click and filter it out. The appearance of the click thrice suggests that you either have a tendency to make that sound when singing, that there's some form of automation starting/ending OR the universe is really trying to do your head in.
