I can't get any input to show using any of my EWI-USB wind controller. I can't play or record any input. I can play just fine in any other music programs.

Here is what I do:
1 From the Options Menu I choose MIDI/Audio Driver Setup

1 I choose EWI-USB (Get Input Driver shows EWI-USB, Mfr ID Product Driver version# =1.0)

2 Then I choose Record MIDI (from Icon on same line as Play Stop etc.)

But I get nothing at all. Nothing is recorded, no notes show up on notation screen.

My EWI-USB works just fine, I can record MIDI in Reaper without problems.

I also can choose a synth patch from THRU, etc.

I used to play and record MIDI from a MIDI keyboard, and or WindControllers without any problems 5-10 years ago in older version of BnB, but not anymore.

What am I doing wrong, or what other setting am I leaving out? It would seem impossible that the problem lies with BnB, too many other people would have complained and it would have been fixed.

Dan, what version and Build # of BIAB?


BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Fender Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

have you tried in rb ?
there is a midi monitor in it...might offer clues.
also i would look at your bb settings from years back that DID work and see if any differences from today.

frankly for midi i prefer rb cos it has many neat features and i like the midi editing in it better than bb.
also check out rb bars view and tracks view that let you move chunks of midi around easily.
for example lets say you like a certain lick recorded and you want it somewhere else in the song its a doddle to do that in rb which also has 256 tracks....so...loads of tracks for midi.
(btw i'm also a reaps user from the day it came on the market...but rb does various things reaps doesnt although its a great daw. just read the rb manual to save me lots of typing to see the neat features rb offers.)

Here are a few things things to check in the option/preferences :

1-check the audio settings for the default track and record settings

2-check the MIDI settings and make sure your thru channel matches your EWI channel

3-check the MIDI settings options and that the MIDI thru options are checked.

4-check your record filter and make sure the notes and other controllers are checked

Part of the mystery is now solved. If I play BnBox alone MIDI recording works my EWI-USB input shows up.
However if I load up any of my VST Hosts (Kontakt, Cantabile, Camelot) to play the acoustic virtual instruments by samplemodeling, or audiomodeling - the EWI-USB input no longer works in BnBox.\

Apparently the EWI-USB input cannot be used in more than one program. Without hearing really good acoustic instruments it is hard to play well, but at the same time I would very much want to record the MIDI into BnBox because it would be far, far more convenient than having to record things in my Reaper DAW. The BnBox DAW plugin is not to my liking.
So, either BnBox or the other programs don't allow sharing the USB input and that is the core problem.

Maybe there are some MIDI utility programs that can overcome this issue. Any suggestions?

There are certainly programs out there that aim to resolve that kind of problem. Search, e.g.: midi patchbay program.


Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful.

IMHO I think if anyone is serious about recording should do so in a DAW, any DAW.

Also most use a keyboard controller which one can record with in BiaB. Very few of us use a wind or breath controller.

I do not record in BiaB, however I thought that I would give it a try. Using the VST3 Swam Tenor sax I could record in BiaB using just my keyboard controller. But after around 1.5 hours of messing around I could not get the VST3 to respond to either my EWI wind controller or my breath and keyboard controller combination. I also tried a couple of different VST2 instruments with identical results. Note that I tried both CC2, CC7, and CC11settings on both the EWI and wind controller. Note like you I can get both to work in many other programs and my DAW, Studio One Pro 7.

I believe you can not daisy chain controllers in BiaB, i.e. Wind/breath+keyboard->VST->BiaB or Wind->VST->BiaB.

FYI-I have been using MIDI since around the late 1980s.
