It's Been A Long Time

It's been a tough month since Di passed. But I'm starting to get back to things. This is the first music I've thrown together since then. It's a Noir Jazz guitar instrumental. Hope you might like it a little bit. Thanks in advance if you listen and leave a comment.

I added some delay, chorus, and distortion to the guitar.

Alan, welcome back! Very cool tune. That lead guitar is smokin', and I LOVE the FX chain you're using. Nicely arranged. Especially love that little percussive color (mark tree?) at 2:45 and near the end. Super mix, too. Very "alive" and evocative.

Good to listen to your music again!

Thanks, Ron! Yes, that is a Mark Tree. Just threw it in on a whim. And yeah, that FX combo worked out pretty good. I didn't mention it in the OP intro, but I also added just a slight amount of tremolo. It's hard to distinguish as the song moves along, but it can be heard on the final note that holds. As I mentioned, it's not easily audible throughout the song, but if I take it away, you can hear the difference - slight but it's there.

Thanks for the visit and nice words. Best to you,

Alan

What a great instrumental. The guitar lines are outstanding, as is the flow & production.

Cathartic.

Man I really like the guitar. Such a beautiful tone.

That's the kind of tone I really like. I could play all night with that tone.

Great sounding track, glad to hear that you are back on songwriting. Perfect blues for a lonely night in a big city. The instrument selection is enjoyable and that solo guitarist is pure magic! I could imagine also a sax to work with the band, but I amazed how you got the guitar to work so well. The mix sounds great on my system. Your Midas touch with chord progressions leaves nothing to be desired.

Thanks a bunch, Herb. I spent about an hour playing around with the effects. Getting the distortion how I wanted it was the biggest challenge. When I added the other effects, they altered the sound of the distortion. But I eventually got them to play nice together.

Thanks a bunch. I appreciate the listen and nice comments. Take care.

Hi, Alan.

Oooooh... The track starts out so mellow, and then the guitar comes in. Nice contrast, and it works.

Of course, you're an expert in assembling these tracks into cohesive stories.

Well done! smile

That is a showcase in the showcase forum for the power and versatility of BiaB.
Of course, assuming talented hands are at the helm las they are here.

Engaging from get go through the last note.

That guitar tone is perfecto and it sits so well in the excellent mix.
As Tommyad would say it has just the right about of "hair around the edges."

Most enjoyable!

Hi Janne,

Thank you for the very nice comments. I, too, thought about a sax. It's not because i didn't olike any of the sax RTs, because I did like a few of them verry much, but the lead guitar RT was so captivating to my ears, I just couldn't part with it. I worked fairly hard and quite a while to get that tone.

I appreciate your visit and encouragement. Taker care,

Alan

Hello, David,

You are, as always, very kind with your comments and observations. Thanks so much.

As far as the contrast n the opening and the main choruses, the intro was smooth and gentle, much like Di was. But her death hit me like a bolt of lightning. I hoped to portray that in the music.

Howdy, folks.

As is typical, you are much to kind. I sure do appreciate all that good stuff you had to say. As I mentioned in an earlier reply, I spent quite a bit of time on just getting that effect and tone (almost an hour-and-a-half). I spent about 8 hours on the entire project over two sessions.

Glad you liked it. I appreciate you two!

Alan

You've been on my mind alot, Alan. Man, this is such a heartfelt creation. That guitar cries loud with emotions of the soul. Love the effects and what a strong execution and technique that drives the tune. On my way to see the vid now.

Hi Alan, so nice to see you and hear you again. How have you been? The song's fairly heavy so I really appreciated the contrast of the chimes. They added a cool touch...a shiver in the sweltering heat.

Hi Marty,

So nice to hear from you! Glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, that lead guitar worked hard for me. I spent quite a bit of time working on that sound. Thanks for mentioning it.

Let me know if you have a problem watching the video. Someone told me they could see the opening screen for it but couldn't get it to play.

Take care, my friend!

Liked this, especially the guitar, of course. I tried to listen to your Di video but could not. Do I have to sign up to listen? What am I doing wrong? Good to have you back here. Back in your musical home of sorts.
