BIAB for Windows was awesome value. I could not take WinPC problems any more.

Tranzport was great product to use with Band In A Box. Will we see this in updates for MAC. I hope so. It was great to be able to work without computer keyboard.

I have an older MacBook Pro running BIAB 2024 for Mac with my Tranzport properly linked, but unable to use it.

Any idea if and when Tranzport will be supported under BIAB for Mac again?

Firstly, welcome to the neighborhood.

Your request has been supported many times before. Unfortunately, we don't have any feedback from the company on this suggestion.

I’m not sure that Windows versus Mac is relevant here, but I can’t check because I don’t have the Mac version. It wouldn’t surprise me a bit if the ever-changing Mac OS no longer supported it, assuming it ever did which I don’t know.

The code for supporting the Frontier Design Tranzport was still there in the Windows version the last time I checked only a couple of years ago. I still have a Tranzport and it actually did work at that time.

The request I’ve been making for a few decades is to support the Mackie Control Surface protocol. If BIAB had that, we could do a lot more than transport control. We could control track volumes with automated faders, and panning with knobs etc. The company did acknowledge this request about five years ago and said it might be possible to build on the code for the Tranzport. I am not aware of anything further. Unfortunately, development of hardware that supports the Mackie protocol appears to have stopped. I would therefore imagine the preferred solution now is to use a tablet (like an iPad). I do this in my DAW, Studio One. At one point it appeared BIAB was going in this direction.

In my opinion, Apple doesn’t value maintaining backward compatibility as much as Windows has done. This causes developers to scramble more to keep old software running on a Mac, so sometimes they don’t do it. Just an opinion.

And yes, welcome to the forum.

I am using BIAB 2024 for Mac with an older MacBook Pro running on Catalina (OS 10.15). The drivers for Tranzport work perfectly on my Mac, but BIAB does not recognise the commands Tranzport.

Don't think it is an OS backward compatibility issue, but rather a case of the Tranzport option removed from BIAB for Mac.

Thanks for that info. As I say, I no longer use a Mac. If you are correct, it might be helpful to put this discussion into the BIAB for Mac main user forum. You’ll get more people to test your theory and narrow down the issue.

[Maybe you already did that? I didn’t look there]

Officially, the Tranzport is only supported up to Mac OS X Lion (10.7), which was discontinued 12 years ago. Band-in-a-Box currently supports Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11) and higher. Unless the Tranzport folks decide to update the drivers to officially support modern operating systems then it is very unlikely that we would add support for a device that is no longer being sold.
