We recently went from 20mbs on copper to 1gig on fiber. I'm envious. We've been on 100Mbps (real world 85Mbps) over copper where I live in the heart of the Silicon Valley. This week, AT&T is bringing fiber to my neighborhood but only promising 300Mbps for around double what I'm already paying. Oh goodie... We were promised this 22 years ago when I worked for ATT. Our copper was 20 down and 2 or less up. Often when uploading the hoped for recipient site would time out. Most remarkable about our experience is that the cost is about 2/3 what we were paying for copper. One reason we waited so long is that we live on a 1 mile dead end road with all underground utilities and apparently the 9 homes in our development was not considered worth the underground effort. I had to reach nearly 80 years of age before we received it this spring but I can still hugely appreciate it. 😀
