Buckle Up

when all the turns are tabled
I`ve lost count of the ways we`re screwed
the dollar`s dirt the ruble`s rubble
on the future I`m starting to brood

let`s road trip `round this empire
a drive-through of decline
trust our luck to a fossil fuel junk
leave these obscene livestream signs

in my arms on the precipice
a beautiful place to kiss
if you believe in transcendence
there`s still a road to bliss
ooohhooo
buckle up!

mosey by the zombie money market
moves and counter moves
hold onto your wallet darling
some of these curves ain`t smooth

scatter kindness from the window
feel the rain on your face
feed our dreams to this old machine
runs on love just as we do

in my arms on the precipice
a beautiful place to kiss
if you believe in transcendence
there`s still a road to bliss
ooohhooo
buckle up!

in my arms on the precipice
a beautiful place to kiss
if you believe in transcendence
there`s still a road to bliss
ooohhooo
buckle up!

This is a really excellently produced song with a great rhythm and flow, but it's let down by the too low volume vocals and as a result I've no idea what the lyrics are about. Maybe it's personal taste, but I think the lyrics should be clearly heard and the guitar solos brought up to the same level. That would make it *stand out* when currently it doesn't as the flowing rhythm sort of flatlines.
Whoah! I've only just read the lyrics and until then I had no idea what the song was about. They're excellent lyrics that really should be heard, but it's impossible at the current level of the vocals.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Scott, you and Robert have done it again...great song! Cool imagery and great throbby vibe. Like the way the "ooohhooo buckle up!" lyric is squeezed out of the chorus. Super guitar fills and vocals. Nice one!

Loved this, it's something only Spirit Level could do. I agree with Chay that the vocal level should come up. But no one else has mentioned it, so maybe it's fine. I'm a huge fan and this song, while different for SL, gave we fans what we were craving.

I liked this! I think the vox level is fine for this style. The lyrics are solid and I like that shuffle feeling. My only question re the ending--was that a fade out, since the track stopped? Maybe just a mix choice. Real nice feel to this, enjoyed my listen!

Hi, Scott & Co.

I also vote for bringing the vocals up in the mix.

Nice work - it's got Rob's distinctive lyric style all over it.

Bouncy and fun. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Robert & Scott, Super groove and backing band.
However I found the vocals to be very low in the mix making it very hard to hear the lyrics. IMHO the vocal must come up in volume. Again this is only my opinion and others may or may not agree.

The song kicks off with your signature tone and cadence/phrasing...always a good way to start things.
The vocal seemed a little thin over my listening set up. I 'heard' the 1st "such a beautiful place to kiss" as "such a beautiful place to kill".
Could be my head but I listened twice and it was the same - when that phrase is repeated later kiss is clearer.

Cheers

Yea, we believe too! 😊

We enjoyed seeing the passage of time with the couple gazing at the canyon.

We enjoyed Robert’s playful vocal and your “happy” guitar.
The mix is perfecto on our monitors. Nice soundstage.

Good one Scott and Robert! Y’all have got us ready for a road trip!

Thank Waoband, Ron, Bob, Floyd, Marty, Dave, TM, TM, David, Mario, Ray and Janice and Bud for checking out the song. We appreciate your comments

Thanks for the suggestions on the vocal volume. I am finding that to many background instruments is sucking up the frequencies around the vocal range. Will pay more attention to the masking in the future.
