Beautiful song, Noel. I did enjoy listening. Even the ai vocals, which normally drive me nuts, sounded good/believable. Some of the harmonies did exactly what your title describes. I'll just throw this out there as my experience, but I kept hearing a possible steel drum.

It certainly picks up with the harmony vocals in the chorus.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:

#58: Bring consciousness to it.

The light and airy feel in the band and vocals matches the lyric feel wonderfully.
The chime in the ending was a very nice addition

You have gotten Kevin to have the same serenity in his voice that you have in yours.
And the harmony by Natalie is lovely, giving them a beautiful blend.

The tender lyric joyfully ends with Hope!

Very pretty cover art

Your music is truly good for our souls!

More please!

Beautiful, I like how you balanced the mood perfectly between sad and optimistic.
I'm in general not the biggest fan of Kevin's voice, but the harmonies with Natalie are really, really beautiful.
Enjoyed my listen a lot smile[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

Noel...this is a lovely song...it seems to me it has thematically captured a wonderful balance of joy and pain...the joy of relationship and the pain of loss...the lighthearted score keeps the melancholy from becoming too melancholy and is full of hope...the track and band are very well done and your mix is superb...I really enjoyed the listen.

Great work with the vocals, your voice shines through again. The female singer is beautifully used in the choruses, fully in the last one.

Enjoyed many small details like the conga intro, the bell and the slowdown at the end. The piano and the acoustic guitar create a nice, fragile bed for the story.

Hi Janne.

Thank you for noticing the sad and happy tug of war in my lyrics. When I sat down to write this, my starting place was to see if I could write something that was both happy and sad and by the end of the journey, feel like the song was worth listening to.

Thanks heaps for your kind words.

But life often surprises one when everything is going fine
I didn’t know then, no, I didn’t then

Incredible.

You combine beautiful, beautiful music with incredibly moving lyrics, to powerful, devastating, stunning effect. Every song I hear from you is right up there. You have the technique, too, but (like with all the best songwriters) it doesn't show; you use it so well, it's invisible; the MUSIC and lyrics show, the message shows. And boy, do they show. You just communicate so (seemingly) effortlessly. It's heartwarming, and also tear and gratitude inducing - for want of clearer words.

I am genuinely in awe of what you bring to the table, each time. You highlight the best of what makes us human, in your songs. God bless and BRAVO.

Hi James.

I suspect that your suspicions about the song's theme from my personal perspective are correct. I didn't set out to write a song with this theme, but as the lyrics and melody grew, my own personal experiences of life started to appear in what I was writing. I did my best to keep things as neutral as possible. At the end of the day, though, I tried to write a song about personal loss and the hope that the best is still yet to come.

Your comments really made my day (again). Thank you so much for taking so much time to pass on your thoughts. I am sincerely grateful.

All the best,
--Noel

Thanks, BYOBand.

I appreciate your visit. I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to you.Unfortunately, life had other plans for me. Thanks for your comments about the vocals, I'm finding that the version 2 vocals and Synth V version 2 are quite a bit easier to work with than versions 1. The new versions make trying to attain something close to realistic possible smile

Hi J&B.

I thank you for having a listen and for passing on a few comments. It is always a pleasure to reply to your posts, and I apologise for not getting to this reply sooner. Life has its challenges for me these days and, as a result, my commitment to the forums has suffered. I have made a note of a number of songs of yours that I still have to listen to smile

All the very best to you both!

Hi BD.

Thanks heaps. I appreciate your comment about sad versus optimistic. When I began this song, I had it in mind to create a song that was a bit of a tug of war between happy and sad. My original working title was "HappySad Song". The fact that you picked up on that, made me smile smile As the song grew, personal experience mixed with storytelling took over and led me along a different path. Thanks for your comment about the harmony, too. Natalie and Kevin work very well together. I find them very comfortable to work with.

Regards,
--Noel

As others have mentioned, that's a great combination of synth voices. Excellent backing band. The lyrics have much to commend them and I love the melody (and harmony) in the chorus.
Unfortunately (in my opinion), the tune you have composed for the verses just doesn't have that same beautiful melodic flow I was expecting.
