What a wonderful production. Or did I already say that?
Well, I certainly won't stop you from repeating it. laugh

Thanks again for the positive comments!

You really set the synth voices well...simply amazing. Seemingly blonde haired, blue eyed sunshine pop.
I did note that the once or twice the synth sibilant stuff made its way through it was pretty aggressive.
On a personal taste level I preferred the sections where the "female" vocal was in definite backing mode.
COOL fade too.

Dreamers are a good subject for a pop song and you have mastered the story into a really catchy one smile Great harmonies are your guaranteed trademark, vocals sound really pleasant.
Nice live feel in the mix, enjoyed those acoustic guitars.
"I will always add major7th chords to the chorus" - no wonder I like your progressions laugh And this progression just excels in every way, perfect to give this the best 60's pop flavor, there's just not enough music like this being made...
To my ears that piano solo at the end sounds bit too jazzy for a pop song wink

Hi David,

Wow, wonderful song! I'm a big fan of upbeat sunny pop with fantastic vocal harmonies, and you nailed it. I'm amazed how you get such great singing out of your AI singers.

I also enjoyed your unexpected chord changes, for example, just before the phrase "see my reflection in your eyes," and the modulations later on. You are the master of well-crafted songs, bravo!

It took me way longer to read your detailed commentary on the making of the song than it did for the song to play in it's entirety.

Reading it, however, explains a lot of what I was hearing.

I like to think I know a fair amount about the tools I use to create my songs and then I hear what you do and read the details and ... Well.... My hat is off to you.

I agree with the others who mentioned it could be a TV show theme song from the past. That's a compliment.

Between the harmony in the vocals and the interesting choice of chords (most likely from those interesting chords YouTube videos) it's clearly obvious that you put a lot of time and effort into the song. I know how much work it takes to get one harmony sounding right, let alone adding more. Chord theory comes in real handy for that.

I enjoyed the song. Good job my friend.

Edit to add : the lyrics are not too shabby either. Good message in there and a good job expressing it.

I'd made a couple passes through the first vocal to make sure it was well balanced. But when I swapped lead vocalists I didn't do the same. I'll probably do that some time.

I generally like the female vocalists better, so it's hard not to make them dominate the mix. Point taken!

COOL fade too.
Thanks again!

After consideration, I went back and brought the keyboard way down. The plan was to re-do the BiaB part with my own playing, because I think the part was a bit too fast for the piece. But I don't happen to have a keyboard set up, so I replaced it with a guitar part instead. I'm not sure that'll be the final part, we'll see.

Thanks for listening and taking the time to post! smile

I'll often get the lead vocals done, and then think "Does it really need harmonies?"

And after adding them, the answer is typically, "Yes". wink

I agree. It was a placeholder until I got my keyboard set up. But I've replaced it with a guitar part for now.

Thanks for stopping to comment, I appreciate it!

It amazes me as well. I think the key is writing to the vocals, not the other way around.

I wouldn't say master (there are a lot of writers here that deserve that more than me), but I appreciate the compliment! smile

Thanks!

There's some irony that I was trying to hurry and get this done, and not get bogged down in playing with all the tools. Sometimes it's better not to have a ton of choices.

Taken for the huge compliment that it is! smile

Oh, I love chord theory.

I actually dropped out the three part harmony, because it wasn't working out. When the voices are sticking to one or two chordal tones per bar, it's pretty easy to work out. When there's more than that, voices can get cramped and start overlapping. And when two of the voices are moving freely like they are here, the third voice just wasn't helping the sound. If I'd used a voice that was stronger in the lower register, it probably would have worked better.

"We'll leave all our yesterdays behind us and look to the future instead.
We don't know what we're gonna find there but we're moving full speed ahead"
As a soon to be octogenarian Bud gives a big thumbs up!

So

We read the cool back story.

Then we listened three times.

Then we read the comments.

Which lead us to floyd's thoughts.

Given that we think it's an all around great production what can we possibly add to his response?
Nothing. smile

20+ tracks? Sheesh, Our heads would be doing about 5K rpms.
And the complexity of working with those synth tracks is simply overwhelming ... just thinking about it.

Thanks for all the production info including the track fx, etc. It’s always nice to read how folks achieve their sound. Particularly when it pays off like this.

Epic,

J&B

I think the song was well worth the effort you put into it.

What a pleasant surprise when I started listening: I wasn't expecting such a rich sounding 60s type folk song/ So delicious to my ears. I don't hear anything wrong here. Synth voices sound great.
