I have a new, powerful, Windows 11 Dell computer. I am running 2024, 32-bit BIAB. I run that rather than the 64-bit because the 64-bit will not put words in the Big Lyric Windows (I am not worried about that) and it will not put the red-fill in the melody notes as the song plays. That is a serious concern for me. I have worried the techs at PGMusic about this for nearly a year and they basically gave up. Both these functions worked with the 32- bit version.

I recently bought and installed (or tried to) a Motu M4 Audio Driver. I am using it for all the sounds associated with my computer. I have earphones plugged into the front right, my microphone is plugged into the front left, the USB runs from the back to the computer, there is a wire going to the computer speakers, and I have terrible luck trying to record audio in Band-In-A-Box. I get poor recording sound when I listen with the headphones but nothing when I play through the computer’s speakers.

My Motu is currently set at 44100 hz sample rare and 256 buffer size. My Audio Driver type is set to MME. When I click on Audio Drivers the Audio Input Driver is set to: (In 1-2 MOTU M Series) and the Audio Output Driver is set to: (Out 1-2 MOTU M Series). I have set the audio on my computer to match the Input and Output above, I think.

When I attempt to record audio, I click on Audio > Record Audio to > Audio. I have no idea if this is correct.

The results are dismal: scratchy distant sound through the earphones, nothing on the computer speakers. Can anybody walk me through this miserable, melodic morass?

Lets see what I can do. I don't use BIAB to record vocals but I should be able to. So I gave it a try.
Took the second try to have it working with my Shure 57M and Motu Audio Express and BIAB 2025.

A lot of buttons to push indeed. You say you have it configured properly, but I am pretty sure you don't. First the motu should be using its ASIO otherwise latency will kill you. Have to have you mic set up in the MOTU mixer software to set the inputs and levels. Then you need to have Win 11 set so its defaults use the mic from the MOTU as the input and the speakers from the MOTU.

I can do a quick video right now if you get back to me quickly and show you how I have things set. If you are not quick I am going to reset everything back to normal since I don't want to mess up my configurations since I have other vocal projects ongoing.

Dr. Dan,

My BIAB is currently inoperable. I have a new 2025 Ultra Pak on the way. It should be here and installed in a few days. I cannot try anything until then.

I opened BIAB the other day and it said the Real Drums and Real Tracks were missing and I had to go into style picker to rebuild them. I had PG tech on chat and did everything correctly, but when it got though rebuilding the tracks still were not there. Tech told me to reload the installers, but since I was ordering the new 2025, I decided to just wait on that.

Either you have things hooked up incorrectly or I don’t understand what you are doing. The M4 has a blend knob plus buttons for the many monitoring options you have.

You can schedule phone support in your User account on MOTU.com. They can also screen share to see what you are doing.

Mike,

This is the best news I have gotten in some time. I am a tech dummy and knowing that Motu may dial in remotely to take a look around is "music" to my ears. At the moment I am dead in the water until I install my new 2025 BIAB. Currently, the old one will not function correctly.

Thank you for your help.
