Weasel

The idea for this song came to me six years ago, probably from a white-furred weasel that looked so innocent, but when I thought about it, I remembered what a beast it is... and if you blindly follow any beast, you end up on the edge...

I was looking for harder sound and I really liked how those chopping and chugging guitars sounded with my chord progression, although at that time, there were some glitches which have been luckily corrected in later BIAB versions. I finally had time to finish the song.

This is also the first time I fully exploited the new Synth V vocalist HXVOC, excellent voice for hard rock songs and I seem to have many of them now under work, easy to work with from a calm voice to aggressive screaming, I could never reach his level smile

Some help by AI used in the lyrics, just few lines.

RealDrums: Metal
RealTracks:
Electric bass #4486
Synth CloudOrgan #2704
Acoustic Piano BritRock #4288
Electric guitar Chop #3540
Electric guitar Chug #3227, #4384
Electric guitar solo Metal80s #4545

Vocals: Synthesizer V HXVOC (lead), Galenaia (female), Liam & Asterian (harmony)

Mixed in Cakewalk by BandLab (Neoverb, Neutron 4, Ozone 11, Aurora), Ozone reference track: Higher by Wolfmother

Lyrics:

In your white fur
full of confidence
I swallow your bait
no doubt about your innocence.
A puppeteer of emotions
pulling all of my strings
Da Vinci of flattery
cunning is the king.

You're a weasel
so kind-looking
but a beast at your heart
I was foolish to believe
in your eloquence
you were too smart.

You blend in with the scene
when you're being chased
your plain and bold missteps
are captivatingly erased.
Your hunting skills blind my vision
charming lies dyed as true
the gestures of your nose
make me bow to you.

You're a weasel

I've always thought that I
won't fall for a hoax
but whisker by whisker
you've bound me
in your cagey cloaks.

You're a weasel

Here I stand, devotedly
your wide-eyed digger
by the grave of humanity
I'm ready to pull the trigger.

Raw and bold.
This HXVOC guy (how do you pronounce this name?) has really some amazing pipes, and the few lines I heard from Galenaia didn't sound bad either.
The song could use a little more dynamic variation.
I think alternating between the powerful male part and a softer/acoustic female part (perhaps for a pre-chorus or chorus) would bring out the best in both and add some drama.

Wow, what a wall of sound! The high-range vocals and guitar screams were great! I esp liked the sections where you let the chugging of the piano or the guitar carry the quarter-note rhythm, then launched back into the drums. Hope you catch that weasel!

Hi, Janne.

Sounds like you got BiaB to rock! Big and crunchy.

HXVOC is great here, but one nit - "eloquence" should be "eh l ow k w ih n s", not "eh l ow k w aa n s".

Well done. smile

Janne, this sound otherworldly and very cool. Very operatic in a rockin' way. Those vocals are WILD and quite good. I can see how some of these tools can help reach a "next level" of song realization, but...you've really got the compositional skills to frame them in a unique, interesting and musical way. Well done.

Thanks BD for your nice comment smile I know you are the master of drama, so I appreciate your suggestion. Although this song is a straightforward hard rock one and doesn't really need more dynamics (the bridge is already meant to be a softer part). The female part was just a test, but somehow ended up in the final version... but I get your point and would be interesting to do a rewrite one day using your ideas... but I'm working on a more dramatic song already smile

Really good hard rock instrumentation. Initially I thought the vocals weren't loud enough, but then I turned up the volume and found they were just right.

Ai gave you a gal with left and right hands on the wrong arms for the song pic. Ha!

WOW, Janne. This is really cool. I love the jerky feel, and you picked the perfect synth vocalists. Dang, this is good. Gotta listen again.

Love those lyrics, Very creative, and all listeners could surely think of someone to sing them to. smile I really enjoy the dynamics you encorporate into this killer song. Great instrumentation and mastering that difficult mix.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Interesting inspiration for your song--original! The male lead vocal rocks hard and is so excellent. I love the chugging rhythm. Nice work!

Thanks David for your positive feedback smile My dictionary says el.ə.kwəns which I believe is the same as eh l ax k w ax n s in Synth V. I have noticed that HXVOC pronounces some phonemes strangely, but that is his style and I respect his choices laugh

Love the album cover.

The new vocalist (Hxvoc) worked perfectly and we could almost see him strutting across the stage

Also, the BiaB crew were truly rocking out.
We were picturing Dave Grohl thrashing away on the drums.

Clever lyric and a great mix.

Rock on!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.

The 2026 49-PAK is loaded with other great new add-ons as well. Learn more about the 2026 49-PAK!
