Hi All, This is called Nowhere Motel. The tires roll soft on a road unnamed A hymn drifts out from a far-off band We whisper the words like a secret prayer And we follow the night with an open hand And we lean into the silence When the static casts a spell We search all the channels When the station says farewell Somewhere by the Nowhere Motel The lights go red in the rearview glass A gas pump lit up like a chapel sign We pass it by like dreams we’ve had Still whispering into the night And we lean into the silence When the static casts a spell We search all the channels When the station says farewell Somewhere by the Nowhere Motel A voice on the dial says the war is done But she keeps her coat wrapped so tight We drive through towns forget their names As they slowly fade out of sight And we lean into the silence When the static casts a spell We search all the channels When the station says farewell Somewhere by the Nowhere Motel Somewhere by the Nowhere Motel BIAB Tracks: 2503: Piano, Acoustic, HeldChords 085 1856: Cello, Background 085 Loop: Chillout/Chillout - 71_bass RealDrums: Tambourine2and4 Other Notes: Bob Mic: Logitech Blue Yeti Bob Vocals: Logic Pro Bob: Martin D-18 Joliz Mic: Audio Technica AT2020USB+ Joliz Vocals: GarageBand Waves Vocal Rider - All Vocals Pre-Production: Track Editing GarageBand & Logic Pro Izotope Nectar 3 Elements for Vocals Izotope Plasma for Instrument Tracks Processing Final Track Mix & Master: Logic Pro As always - thanks for listening! Hi Bob, Man, you are on a roll! So prolific, and all great songs too. Not only well written, but also performed and produced perfectly. Nice to hear you playing BTW, your Martin sounds great! P.S. I'll need to look into that Izotope Plasma plugin, I have a lot of Izotope plugins but not that one. It's my birthday soon, might need to treat myself

I agree with Dave you two are on a roll, a roll of producing one fantastic song after another. As usual everything about this one is perfect. I'm looking forward to you next song. Loved it

Even before listening to the recording the lyrics are just 100% amazing poetry. I can't think of anyone who writes on the same themes and paints such cinematic pictures. … I've now listened to the music and it's as good as I expected it to be and I love the harmonies with Joliz. I also love the cello, re which I've used a few times in my backlog of remixed and new material.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Hi Bob and Joliz! That guitar coupled with the other instruments provides a great support for your poetic lyrics and melody. The first thing I noticed was the cello. It conveys a real human quality to the music in support of both your voices, and with it a touch of sadness. It caused me to have a closer look at the lyrics - at first I had a sense that that there was a kind of solitude and unfulfillment about the story ('We pass it like the dreams we had'), but then I noticed two things: 'we' appeared several times, indicating some kind of partnership or shared experience; and there is a sense of moving forwards through the song lyrics - a journey if you will. In this context, I felt there was more hope than I first thought. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm intrigued by the line 'and we follow the night with an open hand' and wonder what the open hand signifies?
If I'm digging this deep, it's a good song. Well done to you both!
Andrew

Bob, another powerful vignette from you and Joliz. Your D-18 sounds especially amazing on this one, and the cello provides some lovely counterpoints. Superb vocals by both of you. I really like the stripped down mix with the vocals up front and clear as a bell. Just a perfect piece of songcraft, beautifully executed.

Dave,
Thank you for the kind words - we appreciate that!
Yes, the Plasma plugin provides some really nice shine and articulation to the instruments. I've been using it for about a year. I really like it.

Excellent song but the two voices confuse me...they come across as a duet/harmony but the panning suggests backing vocal. The best part of this song, for me, is your excellent guitar playing...excellent.

You write such engaging lyrics, Bob. EVERY time. Another fun one and I like that Joliz is in there for the whole song. Perfect band with each piece only playing what helps the song --a song that needs no help.

Hi, Bob. First, it sounds great - vocal, instrumental - clean and clear. Lyrically, it's like watching scenes from a movie. I couldn't tell you what it means, but certainly how it feels. And that's the bit that's important. Excellent work.

A new Robert S. Dean post in the Showcase harkens back to the days when you finally bought that much anticipated new LP ($3.12 at the Big N). The cellophane came off in the car (or on the way to the car). You race home, run to the turntable, set the needle down and settled in to read along with lyrics on the inside of the cover....
In this case, after my third listen, I'd rush to the kitchen to call my friends (I know all their numbers) and let know... "He's done it, again!..."
With Joliz icing.

Once again we feel like we are watching a short film as we listen to this and these lines are very vivid. (Maybe we are being influenced by the WW II special we’ve been watching.) “A hymn drifts out from a far-off band We whisper the words like a secret prayer” And “A voice on the dial says the war is done But she keeps her coat wrapped so tight” Both of your vocals sound especially intimate in this song. That band (love the cello) sets the mood so well and your D-18 is icing on the cake. Thanks for the mix information. And that mix is outstanding. We felt like we were in a small great acoustics club sitting two rows back in the center. Bud always kids Janice about the endless number of melodies she has in her head. And he wishes that like you he had an endless number of great narratives in his. We greatly enjoyed it! J&B
