My latest idea asking the question that gets us all in the end!!
Needs work but thought Id put it up for you guys n gals......please feel free to say what you think needs improving/changing, Ive noted a couple of lyric changes I think might be better. The mix itself def needs another look imo.....
[Verse 1] Well, I’ve got a few more lines around my eyes, And a belly that don’t fit my favorite size. The mirror’s been honest, a little too clear, But I’m still the same fool with a couple more *beers*.(Years?)
[Prechorus] I’ve swapped fast cars for a pickup truck, But does that mean I’ve run out of luck?
[Chorus] I’m older, but am I wiser? Got a bad back and a *flat old tyre*.(Old Spare Tyre)? Made mistakes, but I keep on tryin’, Oh, I’m older, but am I wiser?
[Solo]
[Verse 2] I’ve learned how to dance when the roof’s leaking through, And how to barbecue when the propane’s out too. I know how to fix what I’ve broken before, But I’m still dumb enough to *lock* (leave)? my keys in the door.
[Prechorus] I’ve swapped late nights for early sun, But does that mean the battle’s won?
[Chorus] I’m older, but am I wiser? Still love a deal at the discount diner. Made some friends and kissed goodbyes, Oh, I’m older, but am I wiser?
[Chorus] I’m older, but am I wiser? Got a bad back and a *flat old tyre*.(Old Spare Tyre)? Made mistakes, but I keep on tryin’, Oh, I’m older, but am I wiser? Oh, I’m older, but am I wiser?
[Outro]

Hi Pete - this is a really cool demo, and I can see how it would be first class once you finish it off. Don’t get me wrong - it’s really good already. The band is right up my alley, and I would class this as ‘crossover’ purely because of the style of the AI vocal. With a different vocal, it could easily be akin to something from the 90s e.g. Tom Cochrane ‘Life is a highway’ or Third Eye Blind.
That pre-chorus is a fine example of what a pre-chorus is, and love the stripped back first two lines of the final chorus to then bring it home.
That fact that the singer is using introspection means he is wiser! Love the correct spelling of ‘tyre’!
Great song and lyrics. The vocals at the right level, but I thought there was too much in it instrumentally, which made the music sound muddled, plus I like solos to be up front, at least as clear as the vocals level. Towards the end where instruments cut out it sounded way better, so I think you have more in the rhythm section than you actually need.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.
Hi Pete, A song I can really relate. You have a great start on this one. I know that it will sound better with your vocal. I had the same thoughts as Chay. That is there is to much going on in the background. IMHO it is distracting the vocal.
I will be waiting for the finished song.
OK, a random thought; Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware
Thank you all for your comments and suggestions, I think both Chay and Mario have got it right re being too busy...... Will drop/review a couple of the guitar parts in the rhythm section, and boost the lead guitar slightly to bring it more inline with the vocal.
Andrew, well spotted in the spelling dept!!

Pete, cool toe-tapper of a tune. Nicely mixed to my ears. Looking forward to your personal touch on the vocals.
Have AI vocals gotten so easy that they are quicker than singing a guide vocal? I'm imagining that lyrics and notes have to be entered and synced by a human, which seems more tedious than laying down a vocal track.
Super track!

Thank you Ron, now with regards to the ai vocals, I input my lyrics in text form, tell it what style I'm looking for, say country rock and allow it to generate a track ( you can also stipulate chords, form etc but that can be hit and miss tbh) I'm only really interested in the vocal melody so it normally takes me about half a dozen re gens to get something close to what I'm looking for. I separated the vocal stems within Suno which does a better job than say Moises download them and then move them over to my DAW where I cut, paste and edit till I'm happy with ît then it's a case of bringing in the sgu file and syncing up all the tracks. It's long winded and a lot of work, however my studio is my back bedroom and it can be very noisy outside where I live so it's not always possible to get a clean live vocal hence my use of AI in the demo.

Well, youtube wants me to log in to watch...which is ironic because I already am. What is with the internet??? So, thanks for the soundclick link. OMG, I so love the funky country sound and the vocal treatment on the chorus. Too fun. The whole thing is really well written, humorous, and delightfully upbeat. Lyrically, I prefer years, leave, and maybe big spare tyre (or tire). My British x would say the former is correct.
Nice country song and I really like YouTube, the way that you spotlight the mixing board.
This is a very nice trick. I would much rather see this while I'm listening to a song then some of the videos I have seen of moving images and flying fairies and flying saucers and such which can be kind of distracting while you're trying to listen to the tune.
Really enjoyed this!

Got it, Pete. Yes, with AI providing the melody and vocals from just your lyrics and you filling in the backing track later, I can see how this saves you time. My "studio" is in the middle of the basement family room, so I feel your record-when-you-can pain. THANKS for the explanation!
