[Melancholy lyrics work really well, "love comes in the spring, but in wintertime/the petals will fall from the rose" ...nice. The duet sounds natural and professionally built. I like Archie's voice, fitting nicely with this type of a ballad. Lalas are a unique flavor to this musical soup. There's something reminding me of Crowded House.
Thanks again! I like Archie's voice a lot, too.

Interesting instrumentation, the organ sounds nice and the fiddle & mandolin add delight. The outro is cool as you said. A voice glitch at 3:03, but otherwise very smooth pop song.
I've just got back home this evening, so I had a chance to listen closely to the guitar and mandolin tracks by themselves, and have removed the clicks and squeaks. I think that was also one of the glitches you attributed to the vocals, since it was around the same place.

I've also made a few other small changes to some of the vocal rhythms (such as on "everyone") that had been bugging me.

I appreciate the feedback!

Those synth voices sound so real, brilliant work on that. It must have been a chore getting those synth voices to work in 12/8. The backing band is fantastic, perfect for your vocals. A super mix also, that also must have been hard.

Thanks! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed listening.

I especially appreciate the "well constructed" comment, since there are often times when songs I'm working on feel like they're build out of disparate parts that refuse to come together.

Thanks for listening and commenting. smile

David,

Ambitious. Accomplished. Astounding.

The opening instruments were cool. Very organic.
When the organ came in, I thought the frequencies got all wrapped up with the vocals. Did not care for that.
The production that followed was excellent. A lot of (good) work!!!

The voices get more real all the time. In fact, I could have sworn your female singer was a bit out of key a couple of times...

Love reading your write ups...

"all you need" does not preclude adding your own MIDI tracks. smile

You put a lot of effort into this. It shows.

Well done.

Thanks again, especially the suggestion on the organ.

It doesn't help that there's a "Rotary Verb" effect on the organ making the frequencies all swirly, either.

I've gone back and put TrackSpacer on the organ, so it should be ducking the competing frequencies in the organ. It may or may not have fixed the problem. I think Curves AQ can do that as well, but that would mean reading the manual.

Edit: I listened to the track in my car, and the swirly effect on the organ is now dropped. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but it clearly wasn't. I need to spend more time listening through other systems, and do a bit of monitoring in mono. I've also pulled the vocals down a bit. I also listened to my prior tracks, and yeesh, the vocals are embarrassingly hot and soaked in reverb. I need to go back and fix those, too.

I also noticed the word "remember" needed fixing, and adjusted the vocal balances in the first section a smidge. I seem to bring the vocals up too much in my songs, and since I love the counter-lines so much, have trouble adjusting them properly.

Heh. The harmonies get a bit crunchy, and SynthV does let the vocals go out of key in places. Which is nice, because otherwise they would sound pretty robotic. I used to put a doubler effect on the SynthV vocals to avoid harsh perfect fifths. Now it sometimes needs pitch correction, which is an improvement. laugh

Hehehe. wink

Yes, despite my laziness, I try to get a good balance on the instruments. I lean towards "overstuffed" and so sometimes I'll err on the side of putting in less.

BiaB isn't going to give instrumental "hooks", and my songs lack that. It's definitely on my "to do" list in future songs, especially since I've bought so many lovely sampled sounds to do that with

“this is a dance with no partner
you dance by yourself in the dark
you can choose to go any direction
but you still come right back to the start”

Sad and strong!
Great lyric all through.

We like the la la’s and are glad you kept them.

The new synth vocalists dance with each other very well.
Their passionate vocals had us envisioning singers in a Broadway musical.
Interesting harmony arrangement.

Ace band and a nice mix. Sounds great on the Kalis.

And we always enjoy your back story!

Was that high female CRUEL @ 2.45 an odd extension, out of tune or is my ear off?
Very dramatic song that covers some dark territory.

Cheers

Yeah, I think they gave a sort of nostalgic but ironic feel, especially the second time around.

I very much had that in mind once I started working on the vocal.

Perhaps they were a bit too dramatic, but I figured I'd give both a chance to sing their hearts out. Better too much emotion than to little... something a bit ironic when talking about AI, but since I was puppeteering it, I'll say it anyway. wink

I'm too lazy to check the note against the chord (I used some pretty dissonant harmonies), but when I was working on that line, I went with what I thought sounded good to my ears. It's a very biting sound, which I though underlined the word nicely.

So I thought that was the right note at that time, although I likely did check it against the chord tones.

Thanks!

I was intentional in creating this as a duet, as I didn't want the male character come across as a misanthropic. By adding the "female" voice, I was hoping to describe people who had been in positive relationships, but found themselves on the cast aside, and frustrated at the inability to reconnect again.

Thanks for listening carefully and giving helpful feedback - I appreciate it. smile

A good sad song with an interesting timesig and beautiful vocal harmonies.
I'm not a big fan of the male singer, but the female singer has a really cool voice.
I love those lalalas smile
