1] I trashed preferences 2] The Audible Count in works and so does the visual count in, using the default song "C". No changes made. 3] I load a song. Audible count in disappears. Visual Count in still works. 4] From this point audible count in does not work - ever.
In the Count in and Metro. options, I have the following enabled Default Allow Lead in bars Play lead even if Intro is present Audible lead in Vol; 64 Instrument Side stick Pattern 1.3. 1234 Lead in drum count if drums disabled Visible Metronome Audible Metronome (disabled).
In the Song Options I have everything to default. I have tried redownloading BIAB and it is not helping
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
I have taken drastic action. Re-istalled BIAB, returned to factory settings, rechecked the audio driver I set it to Focusrite ASIO. On first run of the default Jazz Swing style I get a count in, but as soon as I load one of my own songs the count in is silenced and never returns for other songs. I have checked the Metronome and Count in dialogue it seems in order. I am increasingly of the opinion this is a fault.
Here is my dialogue Box as it currently stands. I enabled "Visual Metronome" and I can see the numbers counting down but no sound. Sometimes, I have been able to use the substyle fills, but not the "Count-in", but at present nothing works again.
Immediate Audio Error! It appears somehow for this little test, my MME was replaced with WAS! Which does not work on my system! Is sthis what you see? Or is this just more BIAB crazyness. Worked fine after I returned to MME.
There was no "fresh install" done on my end! Fact is the replacement of the MME with WAS in BIAB is relatively common for what ever reason. But is that the issue you have here?
I tried them all MME, WAS, Asio - they do not effect the count in. It's my opinion that this issue is nothing to do with the audio driver type. The fault is there with all drivers. A fresh install, a return to factory settings, trashing preferences all these things also do not work here.
ZeroZero, I had the same issue awhile back. I have included a picture of my count-in selections that worked for me and hopefully will work for you. Note that I use MME.
Back in my day the only time we started panic buying was when the bartender shouted "last call"!
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware
You may want to revert to an earlier version of your preferences that was saved prior to when you changed the preferences. This may restore the preferences to a version where everything was working correctly.

WAS is the default Audio Driver type in the program, so when you do a return ALL to factory settings, delete preference files for a hard factory reset or do a full uninstall and reinstall (and occasionally as a result of a Windows update), WAS will be the Audio Driver type, but as you noted you can always change this to your preferred of MME or ASIO from under Options | Preferences | Audio under Audio Driver Type from the drop down. You seem very familiar with this already so this is more so for anyone who happens across this and wonders the same thing as you.

If after trying the suggestions of the other user above who provided a screenshot who expressed a similar issue in the past you are still having issues, please let us know and reach out to us at support@pgmusic.com and we can try and take a closer look at this issue with you.
Yes WAS is very old tech , in the 1990s as I remember. Latency is the issue for audio interfaces, something less than 6m sec, or you can feel a lag when playing. I will be in touch but have some rehearsals first. ASIO was invented by Cubase to minimise latency which is the round trip time between striking a note or message in MIDIand it coming out of the speakers, to much delay makes playing silly. Makes no difference to playback only. My money is now on a setting in my older song files, breaking the count in functions. Thank you for the support people.
Mario I tried these settings but they do not work. I have sometimes got some options for count in working, sometimes, the ones that use rhythm recordings, but never the two bar count in using rim shots. This is the one I want. There is clearly something wrong with the app. I think previously made songs ( created a few weeks ago) are permanently silencing the count in
1.. with great respect to my fellow users who often have problems with asio let me say i dont. asio works in both bb AND RB for me.
heres what i suggest...and yes i know its pricey...but rent a multi client interface like rme sometime or others listed in my tips in pg tips forum re mc interfaces and see if this solves the problems with asio not working. often its just a fact that a setting has not been set correctly in ones current interface being used or in windows sound or a daw setting.
i mention the above because sometimes people blame the music app (and i see same probs on other daw forums ) that get blamed whereas the truth of the matter is often its a setting in the interface or win sound or the music app thats the issue.
just my 2 devalued cents worth...lol.
2. as to count ins...in any music app i use..i just create my own count in track. and dont bother with the apps metronome features. SO in bb in chord view i'll use an rd by itself with the dots technique so only the drums play and then the chords start at bar three say. or if i want 4 bar count in...my chord view looks like ... (legend >>> ! = bar seperator.)
rd,rd ! rd,rd ! rd,rd ! rd,rd ! C,D ! C,D ! G, A ! G,A ! and the rest of the chord sheet. C and D are just chord examples. in summary...actually most times i have a 4 bar count in of an rd followed by the song chords. sometimes i might have a bigger count in viz bars in case i might have eg a spoken intro. (eg the song 'my granny told me...etc' ) in the songs in my sig. it has a spoken lyric at intro...lol. SO in summary i dont bother with any music apps metronome. the benefit also of the self created rd intro is when i exchange tracks tween different music apps. eg a song created in rband or bb then dropped into reaps where i might add something else. hope i make sense.
happiness.
