Hang Ten

Hang Ten is a surf song I did for the KVR August fun competition.

BiaB Style - Surfin' Style
Tempo - 125 BPM
Drums - SSD-5
Piano - Arturia - Fatfisa V - Cheese Combo

I am playing my P-bass guitar, my Casio Strat guitar, and via my breath controller the Swam Alto Sax.

Principal: Your child always causes trouble in school.
Me: My child causes trouble at home, do I ever call you?

Hi Mario! Good job! This tune has all the elements one would expect of a surfing instrumental, and for us Aussies and Kiwis in the middle of our winter, your instrumental has brought some much needed surfing sun, even if figuratively. Love that bridge in the middle - venturing off into a different chord progression.

I am glad you didn’t post an AI pic for the song image on SC - we know how well it would do with rendering all ten toes!

Mario,

Sounds great. Love the tune and mix. This would also make a great movie song for a 1960s film.

You’ve really captured that 60s surf scene there Mario. Love it, great tune.

Kind regards

Holy Ventures-tastic, Batman! Surfin' in a spaghetti western? This all sounds GREAT! Cool ending, too. You've got my vote for sure. smile

Mario, king of scene-setting atmosphere. You've done it again...put pictures in my mind with your music. That was fun.

You captured the surf sound well I think, Mario! Something Dick Dale would have done back in the day. Fun stuff!

Come on baby
light My fire
Baby help me change my tire!
Cuz there's a killer over there
And she's been messing with her hair
Just like she doesn't care
Take day long holidays
And I'm in a purple Haze
Better throw your man a bone
Yeah throw your man a bone
Help him make a home
You got to keep him warm
Cuz he's a rider on the Storm
Take day long holidays
Mario he has to play
Baby throw this bong away!

Groovy baby!!!

Thanx so much Andrew. I'm glad that I could take your mind off of winter for a couple of minutes.

Thanx Bob. I used to watch those old beach movies, mostly just to see girls in Bikinis blush

Thanx Ron. I have a lot of Venture albums, I liked to original TV Batman series, and those spaghetti westerns. Thanx for your vote.

Thanx Beth. I try to make my music thought worthy, that is put images in the listeners heads. It can be harder with instrumentals than vocals.

Electro-surf! Sounds like a new genre. I get a mix of both modern and 60s in this. Your music always evokes interesting images.

Thanx Chay, I'm glad you liked it. I hope listeners can visualize images while listening to my songs. I hope they do as that is the aim of my instrumentals.

Man, stadium anthemic surf music ... huge!

It would take a Cat 5 to create those waves. smile
Ecellent production including your typical great instrumental performances.

Bud did some surfing back in the bleached blond hair days.
This is a whole new level.

Fun!

Cool song. I liked it.

However....man.... your mix was upside-down*.
Drums and guitar should be way more up front. Most surf music tends to have both of these leading the mix. The guitar was way too far in the back for most of the song.
Bass should provide a nice cohesiveness with the kick, obviously. It was actually fairly well placed in the mix.
The Sax should come stand in the spotlight for it's part, and the B3 should be providing a nice pad under everything rather than being the most upfront thing in the mix except where it's supposed to be in the spotlight. I think a good remix would really do this tune justice.

* ( in my humble opinion, of course )
