Nice track, Ron. I especially liked the second chorus - the way the words flowed was sweet. You've got a great voice, I'm so jealous. Fine work.

The only thing sticking in my craw is the line "The Lone Star state is waiting for her there" because Texas is the Lone Star state and my (possibly over-thinking) mind is like, "Texas is waiting for her in Texas?" But everything else comes across smooth.

THANKS, Beth!

The subject is a young person in that "I'm gonna be a [fill in the blank]" phase that many of us went through on our way to reality. Nowhere in my youth did I ever say "I'm gonna be an engineer!" but...so it goes. The rest of the story is in the DM.

I've always regarded the "Lone Star state" (lower case "s") as a sort of wordplay referencing the fiercely independent mindset of individuals living in the "Lone Star State" (upper case "S"). But I might be giving my brother the lyricist more credit than he deserves. Possibly he was inspired by Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind"?

Glad this is the kind of country you would listen to if you did. Ha!

That is an excellent country or even a fit for the big tent Americana genre.

We did get the Gram Parsons vibe and thought of his album with Streets of Baltimore.
It also has an early Eagles or Dirt Band feel or even a “hat act” period of country music.
It should appeal to a LOT of folks.

No need to parse it out as the vocals (BGV’s are a nice addition), lyric, band and production all sound great.

The clear, open mix with dynamics set up a good soundstage on our monitors.

Well done and we enjoyed it!

Thanks, Marty! Yeah, I go back and forth on whether Georgia is her name or the state the narrator is in (which it was in the real life version). Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks you, David! Thanks as well for the DM follow up, and the reminder about Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind". Those were the days!

Good write, and love your mix!

THANKS, Dave. Yeah, I might have over torqued the de-essing bolt on this one. Tried to be surgically precise but sometimes it seems more like a weed whacker. Glad you enjoyed it anyway!

Thanks, Scott. Different for sure! The lyrics have a poignancy that just crush me, and reveal a lot about both the girl and the narrator. Very artful. I love doing harmonies. The last chorus has a low harmony, a technique I underuse, but I like the way it turned out. THANKS for listening!

Props to your brother for the very funny lyrics.

I'm not sure if the exact word to apply to this style of humor, is it sardonic?? Very deadpan too.

It's definitely not "on the nose" and it's my favorite style of humor. Great job and really nice production man.

Why, THANKS, David! There is a sad, wistful humor in the lyrics that I find quite endearing. The humor here can certainly be "sardonic" if that's what you hear. But in my internalizing of the lyrics, they're more "wry", which is a similar but gentler humor to my way of thinking. Either way...glad you liked it!

THANKS, Rob! It's cool when a lyric carves it's own musical flow as it did here. "Great voice" is a kind stretch, but I like it. There's a lot of studio magic that goes into producing something like this from my vocals, but I've got the time, so why not? Truthfully, my goal is just for the vocals to not be a distraction to the lyrics and the music, 'cause that's what it's about for me. Glad you enjoyed the tune!

THANKS, J&B! Ya'll are always WAY too kind. Your notes on other bands really hit home. "Streets of Baltimore" is a killer Gram performance. "Hickory Wind" is another perfect track of his that I reference a lot. Early Dirt Band is one of my weaknesses. Their version of "Livin' Without You" is barely two minutes long, but it always crushes me. Just perfection...

Appreciate the listen!

Cool one, the clipped vocal delivery adds a nicely idiosyncratic vibe too.

Charming country tune. Good-humored lyrics, nothing wrong with dreaming, even dreaming big like owning an oil company smile The band is pleasant, the pedal steel is perfect for the mood. Great vocals and the harmonies work well once again.

THANKS, Janne! As this is likely the last post for this thread, I'll reveal for the very few who read this far that the young lady did indeed eventually own an oil company. Funny how life turns out. smile
