Suno is set to release Suno Studio in the fall. From what I understand it will be a start to finish music composition solution. Suno is a pretty amazing Ai engine as it is but Studio will integrate a full DAW. Create song, Split stems, extract midi, and give control on every aspect of the song. The demo that I saw has Ai integrated into effects such as suggesting a side chain compressor or suggesting other plugin tools. Those of us who have been using Suno know that it can be a very powerful tool in song creation and it is not a machine simulating the process of creating a song. Although there are plenty of Suno songs on Spotify playlists, but they are so recognizable. I often use Suno for ideas that lead me down interesting paths. I recently released an album that used Suno extensively. I’m 72 years old with Parkinson’s and my song creation skills have eroded. Having Suno as my collaborator allowed me to make this album. I love BIAB and will probably buy every upgrade on both platforms every year. But, I think in a year or two Suno Studio will be what we’ve all been trying to get to all these years - I started with BIAB in ‘96. Just sayin’

There seem to be a number of features that are being offered. The first is a complete DAW. Because everyone wants a new DAW. The second is the ability to generate stems on a per-instrument basis. Currently, stems are created with all the instruments, so AI is needed to split the stems into instruments. I suspect that this will still be what happens, only it will be integrated into Suno Studio. If that's the case, you won't be seeing an increase in quality, so it would just be a convenience function. The third is the ability to convert the stems into MIDI for custom editing. What i don't see offered is the ability to render MIDI into audio, which is an odd omission. One of the "big things" in AI music right now is converting MIDI into plausible instrument performances. It'll be interesting to see if people adopt this.

I agree the quality is not great. When I use it, I often convert stems (they have a really good stem splitter on their site) to midi using melodyne. It works pretty well but sometimes there are random sounds on the stem that you have to scrub, either in melodyne or in the midi track. Unfortunately, I can’t split drums effectively on Melodyne. Drums have been my Achilles heel in my music production forever. I’ve always used BIAB drums but they’re far from ideal. The Suno drum tracks are very good except any cymbals other than hats. Crash and ride cymbals end up sounding like hiss in a mix.

While I have seen a lot of things brag about being able to take an audio file and convert it into midi, I have yet to actually get anything close to resembling a satisfactory result. I'd love to see something that could take the stems and convert into midi for use with a high quality sampler

I'd love to see something that could take the stems and convert into midi for use with a high quality sampler I suspect the problem people will run into is getting the expression to work well. That means really good pitch tracking (for bends and such) as well as amplitude. Pitch tracking already exists, but not all MIDI instruments are consistent on their mapping of pitch bends. MIDI instruments normally have sampled articulations ( i.e. hammer ons, feedback, slides, pizzicato, etc.) that require having different articulations on different MIDI channels, so there's another layer of transformation that's probably going to have to be added manually. At some point, it's likely that SUNO will offer MIDI to audio. This already exists for a number of products that automatically add in articulations. For some instruments, these articulations aren't even specified in the MIDI - the instrument automatically figures out what articulation is appropriate. For this to happen with high quality, it means that SUNO would have to sample instruments in isolation, which I don't believe they've done. That doesn't mean they don't have any tricks up their sleeve. For example, Audacity has an OpenVINO "Super Resolution" option that will upscale audio and add detail. So perhaps something like that can be used to deal with quality loss with the step splitting process. We'll see.

However it is only a note conversion. AFAIK there is no audio to MIDI conversion program that includes the nuances of string instrument, i.e. pitch bend, vibrato, slides, etc. Those nuances must in inputted via continuous controllers, CCs.
