In Episode S1 E3 of "The Fugitive" (1963), Kimball skurries through a mountain crag and is found and helped by a simple but warm-hearted young girl (played by Sandy Dennis). She alone knows the pathway through the mountainside to the open land. After escaping with her help, Kimball looks back and wonders what he left behind.
--------------------------------------------
"Mountain Behind Me"

On the mountain pass where you found me,
Unaware of what bound me;
Your lovely smile disarmed me, and
Charmed me right on the spot.

Soon the sunshine had showered;
Warmth on a friendship that flowered;
Please don't paint me a coward, for my
Sudden good-bye.

Now our mountain's behind me;
Fleeing love that was new;;
I'll have the stars to remind me,
Of you.

I never thought we could keep on;
Lasting is something to sleep on;
I knew that soon I would be gone;
For me,
The past was closing in.

Now our mountain's behind me;
Fleeing love that was new;
I'll have the stars to remind me,
Of you.

Hi Tom,

The melody is fine, the idea and lyrics are good. The band feels a wee dated in sound (ah, it's the midi...midi can make or break it). I'd pare it back, IMHO. I don't mind the vibes and shaker within the body and even at the end. Maybe it's the blend of everything...not sure. I'm not as techy as some others here. Anyway, hope that is helpful.

The band, vocals and mix are all smooooooth.
I know we oft say this but we do like your open mixes.

This sounds like something from a movie soundtrack in the 60’s
Cool idea to base it on a series episode.
Now we want to watch some of those early Fugitive episodes again. smile

Enjoyed it,

J&B

Another one for Astrud Gilberto! I really like the instrumentation in this, though I think the vocals were a little loud.

Tom, this sounds like a song from a 60's musical, and that is a very good thing.
Super vocal and backing tracks.
Great (note that I spelled it correctly this time grin) mix also.
Sounds great.

OK, a random thought;

Tom, another ultra-cool throwback form, sweetly executed. Like the inspiration for this song. Used to watch The Fugitive faithfully, but it must have been on reruns, as 10 PM was WAY past my bed time on a school night.

I've no problems with the midi components.
The walk up was a little weak but the rest is solid and cool.
The vocals do sound to be a bit loud & in a different room.

Cheers

Hi Tom,

Definitely sounds like a cinematic track from the mid-sixties. And that's a sound I like. I like that you didn't try to make it contemporary. It perfectly represents the sound of the era.

I agree that the vocal could come down a bit. if you listen to to cinematic music of the era, you'll find the vocals, most often, are generally slightly above the music tracks. More blended, I guess you could say. Not buried, just blended.

Anyway, this is a very nice listen. Well done!

Alan

HI Tom.

I agree with Mario.With this song, you really have captured that 1960s TV Show or Musical sound. Given your preamble about "The Fugitive" (which I loved, by the way), I think that you have musically recreated this period in time well. The vibes cemented the feel. Also, I love the asymmetry of the AAAX rhyme scheme in the lyrics. It was a popular rhyming pattern in the AABA songs of Tin Pan Alley, and it is refreshing to hear it in action once again. You're a talented songwriter!

Thanks for taking me back in time to a series that was one of my favourites smile

Thanks Noel....I never intentionally try to "go back in time"--that's just where my central roots re songwriting lie. I think good creative work is always good, no matter what the genre--I see so much of it here in the forum. Anyway, thanks for the nice comments, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Ah, this one's different, Tom. Maybe Beth found the reason. There is one thing that is consistent with all of your songs. Cool chord changes and your engaging vocal. Yeah, the band sounds far behind you. Really well done, Tom!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Nice melody, chords, arrangement. As usual, the vocals are quite forward. I'm struggling with the same problem. We'll get it figured out.
