Hey, all: So . . . I likely have no business posting this tune . . . having not been too active on the forum and not taking the time, as I should, to listen and comment on the many offerings below. But I'm going to throw this out there just the same . . . with the promise that I'll make good. Though, that said I'm not sure how fair a trade it is . . . as this is perhaps a lacking production. Honestly, I just don't know. I recently uploaded the new Mac 2025 PAK and came across a song style that worked for two songs long sitting on my desktop. This is one (the second is some ways out). This song was written a few years back . . . I think about the time I was pondering retirement and wondering if there was something a bit more. Anyway, I'm letting it go. Hope you enjoy the listen. All my best, Deej Here's the song:HOLDING OUT FOR LOVE Here are the lyrics:We wake in the morning taking our places And march to the beat of the drum Perpetual motion somehow erases All that we ache to become And, oh, so we go But one day the calm will come Until then I’m holding out for love Watching it sideways it all seems so shaken The way that our world ought to be One of these days our hearts will awaken And then we may finally see That, oh, heaven knows How the dark will be undone Until then, I’m holding out for love Feel this heart inside and know it’s always meant to shine No matter what the world demands Love and fate have better plans It’s hard to see now With eyes closed and head down But, oh, heaven knows How one day your kingdom comes Until then, I’m holding out for love. And here's the band:Real Drums: RockHard LA^4 Real Bass: 1759:Bass, Electric, Pop16ths Ev 085 RealTracks: 1764:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Pop16thsA-B Ev16 085 RealTracks: 4013:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm ModPopDistortedLoArp Ev16 65 Real Tracks: 2935, Acoustic Rhythm Real Tracks: 689 Organ RealTracks in song: 2975:Vocal Oohs-Aahs, Rhythm Pop3-part Ev 085 RealTracks in song: 2976:Vocal Oohs-Aahs, Background Pop3-part Ev 085

Good song, Deej!
The first thing that resonated here with me were the lyrics. I can really relate to them, especially this stanza:
That, oh, heaven knows How the dark will be undone Until then, I’m holding out for love
Your voice is, once again, in stellar form. The musical writing itself is excellent, too. However: I return to the lyrics. I think we all need this kind of message right now. The world is indeed upside down, I don't think there's much room for argument on that one. So it's good to hear that "love and fate have better plans", even though we do not know quite "how one day your kingdom comes". In other words, we need that HOPE.
A very timely message, therefore, wrapped up so beautifully in an artistic work. On the artistic side of things: you make it sound easy, and Lord knows it isn't. Bravo.
Thanks for sharing, Deej, I needed this, and I suspect so do many others.

Why so nervous about this song having anything lacking?! It's excellently arranged and mixed and I love the lyrics. In fact I think it's a brilliant song. I'm 74 now, so long retired, but this is a poem I wrote in 2008 a few years before then (I published in one of my poetry books in 2015 and also in my later 'best of' collection):
I Want to Retire Self: I want to retire, I want my life to be a joy, A free flow of love, Of being.
I want to retire, I want my life to be a song, A free flowing poem, A romance, A work of art from moment to moment. No problem, No effort, One with my nature And one with Great Nature - with Life.
I want to work my creativity, To write from the spirit and study, To play, To share love, To BE. I want to retire.
Spirit: Then make it so.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Deej, this is terrific! Loved it, it's a three-minute gem. Lyrics were so good, the rhyming was terrific. And of course, any excuse to hear your amazing vocals is fine by me. One funny thing, I couldn't hear the BGVs. Something must be wrong with my ears. No matter, this is one of my favorite songs by you, I'm putting it in my Top FIve of great DJL tunes. So glad you posted this.

Deej, cool anthem to chasing one's own priorities instead of others'. Honestly, this has a perfect production for what I'm looking to hear. Your vocals, the lyrics, the melody and the hooks move the needle WAY into the I-GOTTA-LISTEN-TO-THIS range on the entertainment meter. A highly produced song has its own sonic charms, but without dynamite content, it doesn't mean so much. Love this though.

Deej,
No apology necessary. We all come to the forum as time, opportunity, music production allow. Life, too, has its say. So, post and comment as all those things allow.
I think it's a great song as is. there's nothing to apologize for here. It sounds terrific in all respects. Everything works and works together quite nicely. The lyric is particularly good, as is your vocal. I wouldn't change anything about it. Also, I liked the unexpected chords in the chorus. Nice!
I didn't reflect much on my retirement. I had decided when I was about 50 that I would retire when I turned 60. Three weeks after I turned 60, I retired. That was almost 20 years ago. Haven't regretted a day of it.
Good song, good listen!
Alan

Great job. Melodic pop.

Hi Deej, glad you shared. Don't hesitate even if you don't have a chance to listen and comment. Speaking for myself, I wouldn't want to be deprived of anybody's songs for that reason. This song sounds good to my ears...nothing lacking.

The Mac Pack is crack Jack. Well done Deej, I don't have this style at present but it seems a good'un. LOVE the narrative of struggle & positivity. Excellent.

Deej, I completely enjoyed this--excellent put together and a very strong, nicely-built lyric. One thought I had about your comments about "not deserving"---I often find that I can't listen to other work if I'm deep in the weeds with my own project, especially if I'm in the "wrestling phase" where I need to focus my interior listening only on working through to the "other side" of the song---even when I'm away from the DAW. This isn't probably what kept you away from the forum, but I think it's a legitimate explanation for not regularly commenting--at least for me, anyways. Great to hear your work!

Hey, Deej. THere is nothing in the rules that says you have to be here every day to post.
WOW, man, another beauty from you. You can sing anything and it would sound terrific. These lyrics are perrfect. Everything, including chord changes, melody and the perfect band mixed just right.

"So . . . I likely have no business posting this tune . . . having not been too active on the forum" Deej, you have more business posting than I do if recent participation is a factor! It sounds like you put a very nice effort into producing this track! There are lots of lovely little melodic twists and turns! As always your vocals are top tier! Your tunes are without exception top shelf! Thanks, TB

Deej, I will tell you what this song is lacking - NOTHING! This is perfect as is. Great vocal and lyrics. Great backing tracks. Super mix. I really liked this song.

Really cool song Deej. I think music from within flows at its own pace. Time can surely get in the way sometimes. Super vocal Deej.

Very touching song. Lyrics paint the ache and hope beautifully. I especially liked "Feel this heart inside/and know it’s always meant to shine" and "Love and fate have better plans", also very intriguing progression and melody in that part.
Enjoyed the band also, the organ and the bass sound very nice. Your great vocal has the right amount of emotion.
A very good song grows on every listen and this is such a song.

No need to apologize, Deej, you have a wonderful (and well-produced) song that WE can enjoy. And I enjoyed it very much. Hi Deej.
This was a great listen! I loved the lyrics, the melody and the arrangement. There are some very tasty chord progressions within this work. The one that captured me the most was the transitional modulation coming out of the bridge and into the last chorus. This was very skillfully done. I always admire your songwriting and song-performing skills. You've got the knack for making fine music.
