https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=15088137As usual, I used the workhorse jazfred RS again. I did make one mod to it, I used the Ron Carter bass RT. The waveform looked crazy on it, hope it sounds okay. It's pretty hard to mix bass on headphones. I sang and played harmonica. Wish I could find a better singer, but we're stuck with me. Lyrics: So I love you, so what? What should I expect you to do? Get all giddy, run around the city Acting like it's something new So I love you, who cares? Not the guy who lives down the hall Or any other ace in this nosy place With his ear up against the wall I'm not saying I'm special Nothing about me that's great But love is love and if it's real It's bound to be first rate So I love you, oh boy, What a great world it could be If you were to say in the loveliest way That you felt the same about me SOLO I'm not saying I'm special Nothing about me that's great But love is love and if it's real It's bound to be first rate So you love me, you say, Say that it's the absolute truth Give me a squeeze like you're aiming to please That'll be the genuine proof

Rob, I love this groove. You really make the AABA song format soar. Your harmonica solo is a perfect choice and a super fit. Kudos on your vocal performance and song production, too. You've created a fine work. I really enjoyed my listen --Noel

Good groove. I too hope to find a better singer for my songs, but have to do it mostly my self. Your vocals aren't too bad. And you play that wonderful harmonica.

Really lovely and gentle love song. Great harmonica. And as I replied to someone else recently, I'd much rather have your real vocals than SynthV. PS: I've just figured out why I keep confusing you with Hans (Birchwood): You both have white hair and in your photos you're both looking in the same direction. New mnemonic: Monger robs Maryland & Birchwood hurts my han's.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Rob,
That's a great song. Nothing wrong with your vocals - they sound excellent, as does your harmonica playing. Love the mix on this as well.

Hi Rob! I second what a few others have said here - your voice is good and should keep it. That harmonica! I’ve no idea on technique or style, but it sounds great to me and provides an interesting and supportive interlude. A enjoyable listen all round. Andrew

Rob, super song, and your vocals are a great match for the style. Scintillating harmonica work with a cool, playful line. Jazfred.sty sounds nice as always, and Mr Carter slid right in there. Nice mix, too. I could hear Satchmo singing this, but think that ship has sailed. You're doing better than just fine though!

This is a super song. Di and I took this road many times and were always happy when we did.
Nothing wrong with your voice. Sounds fine to me. It fits this style/genre quite nicely. It's slightly aspirant with a tiny hint of grit. I like that combinaton. My favorite contemporary (well, until the past couple of years) is Steve Tyrell, and your voice reminds me somewhat of his. That's a pleasing reference for me.
the harmonica is just right. Well done!
Great song, great production, and terrific delivery. What more could a listener want?
I enjoyed my listen very much. Best to you,
Alan

Hi Rob, don't shoot your voice down; I thought you sounded great. Really liked your bass switch. You've got another very good song here! Just curious about your choice for "guy down the hall" instead of "down the stairs" which would have rhymed. Intentional?

Thanks, Andrew. Yeah, I'm sure I'm getting annoying, always complaining about my voice. I need to stop it. I'm glad you like the harmonica. I never complain about that, I'm happy with my harp playing! Thanks again for your kind review.

Thanks, Ron. Yes, I hear Louie on this and others. Good to know the bass is okay, I was concerned about that. The waveform almost looks like it is clipping throughout, but the key word is almost. Thanks again.

Alan, people rarely mention artists I've not heard of, but Steve Tyrell is completely new to me. I listened to his Bacharach LP. Really like it. He's still around. Thanks for the recommendation. I've made a promise to stop complaining about my voice, I'm sure it's getting irritating. Thanks again.

So happy you like this song, Beth! Actually, I've been sitting on it for years hoping to find a crooner to sing it. No luck. I've made a deal with myself to stop whining about my singing. I'm sure it's getting old. I used "hall" to rhyme with "wall." Although I do like the imagery of "stairs."

You’ve got a great feel for songs like this . . . nice oldies, jazzy sound . . . production elements sitting in all the right places. Terrific write . . . and that harmonics is just the perfect choice. Nice work with the piano as well. Great stuff!!

Oh, man, I studied Ron Carter for years with Bruce Gertz, the head of bass at Berklee. My all-time favorite. So cool having him and Phil Woods on BiaB. NO! YOU are the best singer for this --and Beth came to mind while I listened. Man, you are so good in this genre. Gives credence to reincarnation. Come to thnk of it, I have a vague smokey memory of sittting in a club in the late 40s and enjoying this incredible singer who also plays harmonica. It blew my mind when the server told me he also wrote the songs.
