Very true! It can help get momentum going at times but should still be taken with a grain of salt, especially in music when so much of the magic lies in the artist. Being a musician myself, I find the joy in writing and simply getting it out of my head onto paper, even if it is sometimes a mental battle of proportions.  Completely copy/pasting content from AI is where I think the problem lies (easy and tempting yes). One point worth mentioning is that it can help with wordplay a lot of the times. For instance, inputting a prompt and seeing what it comes up with, studying the lines and bars generated, taking aspects of that and running with it. The more in-depth you are with the prompt, the more in-depth the wordplay and arrangement can be. With all that being said you are right though, we need to turn it into inspiration, not imitation. P.S. The example given in this thread actually was the answer to my prompt!
