Hi Chay,

Actually, it doesn't surprise me very much. I think you appreciate music for what it is, as you hear it. Genre is probably not the strongest consideration for you. I'm more than delighted you enjoyed it.

I also know you like a mix of lead instruments, but for this genre, electric guitar is almost always the only lead instrument.

Thanks for the visit and kind words. Best to you,

Alan

B.D.

Yep, definitely out of the ordinary for me. But after my wife passed, I went blindly through the darkest dungeons of PG Music's BIAB, and arbitrarily clicked on whatever my mouse landed on. This started out much differently but ended up here.

Well, to get a singer, I'd need a lyric. I would have no idea how to write a lyric for this!

Thanks for the nice comments!

Hi Scott,

Yeah, sometimes accidents end up better than the intended project. If you didn't already know, that's rubber came to be. Harvey Firestone dropped a spoonful of whatever he was trying to make onto a hot stovetop and voila - rubber came into existence.

After I clicked on the generate tab, I instantly liked what I was hearing. I altered the chord pattern slightly, and this is where I ended up.

Thanks for the visit and nice comments.

Hi Brian,

Thank you very much for those nice comments! It happened by accident, but I liked it and kept it. I've been playing professionally since 1963 (you can say things like that when you're really old!) and I would never have been able to play this genre. But BIAB plays it quite nicely.

And yes - lots of energy!

Thanks again and take care,

Alan

Earlier this year, I tried to write and produce a rock song. I don't think it was a failed experiment but I was so far out of my comfort zone that I really had no idea what I was doing. My basic approach was to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. It is clear from your song, though, that you did not use the "fingers crossed" technique. Everything that you've done sits very comfortably in its place and, as a whole, the final sound is full of energy and attitude (just like rock is supposed to be, so they tell me). I really, really loved the experience of listening to this track smile

Awesome + +

Noel,

As always, you are much too kind. But I can deal with it!

Actually I didn't use much of any sort of method. I clicked on the wrong Style set, and this happened. All I did after that was slightly change the chord pattern, drums and, threw in a couple of synths to fill out the soundstage. A little less than four hours total on this. Sometimes you get lucky, and things just work out good. I can often equal or exceed a challenge, but I can never beat luck!

Thank you again for all those very kind words. And I'll bet your project isn't nearly as bad as you make it out to be.

Wishing you everything good.

Alan

Loved it.

Mario,

Well, aren't you just too nice with your words?! Thank you - I truly appreciate all those nice things you wrote. I think you might be right about the shredding thing. I've been on this forum about 14 years and, I don't recall any previous song with guitar shredding. BIAB, as always, came through for me.

Wishing you the very best.

When someone starts out with "And now for something completely diffferent," I expect to see some silly walks or something. But this is NOT silly at all. Symphonic Rock. WOW! Alan, I cannot wait for your next 8 or 10 posts, as you say, where we get to see and hear where your blindly clicking took you. This is truly sensational, my friend.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hey, Marty!

Now, aren't you just too nice! It took my out of my normal comfort zone, but that's how one expands his knowledge and acquires new tools of the trade. I'm glad BIAB has people who can play this, because I would never have been able to do - even back in my younger days. Jazz, Pop & Country, i can probably do okay. But this kind of rock was outside my skillset. Thanks, BIAB!

I'm going to repost one of Di's songs we wrote over ten years ago and then start posting the one I mentioned above.

Thank you for the kind words. I always enjoy your comments.

Alan

Wow, didn't except a progressive rock instrumental by Alan. The instruments work really well together, you are really a BIAB sorcerer - I can imagine you putting RealTracks in a pot and stirring the soup and voila, there's the new masterpiece. And there's of course your finetuned chord progression that makes those instruments really sing. And the solo guitarist sounds like charmed by your magical powers. Keep on exploring and going where no man has ever gone before smile

Hard to say much after reading all the accolades.
We have oft marveled at your all BiaB productions.
And this is no exception.

The first thing we noted was that the track was full of nice dynamics.
Many folks squash the life out of rock tunes -- in our humble opinion.

Every track has its place yet all is so cohesive.
The soundstage is great on our Kalis.
Kinda like the middle seats on the third row. smile

We enjoyed it and hope your music journey continues to offer you some peace and diversion.

Alan, thanks so much for your detailed response, I really appreciate it! I've never heard of focal dystonia, but I have essential hand tremor and can no longer play guitar. I can (barely) strum chords for writing songs, but that's about it. I like what you wrote about seeking perfection, that was very helpful. I'm so far from perfection it's laughable, but I do waste a lot of time with plugins and sliders hoping to attain something greater than my skill set, as you would put it. I end up relying on forum feedback to fix my mixes. Thanks again for taking the time to explain your process!

Good one Alan, really good.
Definitely a "shred" session in some parts.
If I were to suggest anything it'd be to change the classic BIAB tag ending for something more you. There's noting wrong with it - it's just that I've begun to notice it i my own stuff and am trying to get away from it.

Cheers

Hi Janne ...

It is very kind of you to write all those very nice things about my song. I appreciate it very much.

Sometimes it is almost like putting a bunch of BIAB elements in a big pot and then stirring it. Other times, each element of the song is thought out. The chord progressions come easy for me most of the time. Chords and chord patterns are kind of my "thing".

Sorry to disappoint you; I have no magical powers. BIAB supplies that. My recording process is very old-fashioned but simple. I don't even have a DAW. Well, I have two of them, but I can't figure out how to use either of them. The instruction manuals are like reading Greek to me. But I do OK without one. The biggest limitation is that there is only a relatively small number of plugins I can use. But, I make do.

Thank you again.

Alan

Hey Scott,

Thanks! But most of the credit should go to BIAB. I just typed in a chord pattern, picked a style, and threw in a couple of instruments. Somtimes it works out pretty good. Occasionally, not quite so good.

Many thanks,

Alan
