Beautiful song Floyd - lovely vocals and production! You did a great job on this one - keep'm coming!
Carl Thank you, Carl.... Floyd,
I think for me this is among your best writes . . . Always a nice thing to hear. And especially nice as I continue to write new songs. None of that resting-on-your-laurels thing this just has a vibe . . . a touch of regret, a lost love that might have been but still resonates . . . and it oozes through every line. again, nice to know that these songs can still have that effect. You are very good at embedding feelings and emotions into a lyric - so to hear this from you is extra... Perfect vocal performance . . . though from a production perspective I keep wondering (listening to it now a second time) if I might slightly pull back on the reverb. Not sure . . . and become less sure the more I listen to the song . . . it seems less so in the latter part of the song. Your instincts are far superior to mine, so I'm sure it's just perfect as is. I had a moment where I thought the reverb was a bit much. I had planned it to be "big" - ballady, and all... It did not take long for me to get comfortable with that, and then it just became part of it all. Thanks for mentioning it... Every small bit matters. I look closely at these type production comments... Notwithstanding my musing, it's just a brilliant song! And the piano is just so, so well done. Bravo!
Deej Thanks, Deej....much appreciated... especially like to hear that the piano works...big smiles from that....

A song for a dark room, a deep chair, something wet to ease the despair. Loved it. The more you play in a song the more directly it communicates...hearts on a string line.

This is sounding so rich and beautiful, Floyd. That you love every part of the process shows because your work is always so polished. The piano in this is sublime as is the guitar solo both working so well with the band. Most excellent piece of songwriting. I always felt that Jane Siberry's Love is Everything was the most longingly beautiful song ever, but this is definitely up there.

heeh. I'll often play one of your songs for someone, or someone asks when they hear what I'm listening to, "Wow, who is that?" I proudly say, "Yeah, a guy I know." Okay, I may be stretching the breadth of my knowledge, but I also claim to know Victa Wooten. One thing I can say for sure though is that, yes, Floyd, I think of you often (as the song asks), and I think you are one of the best songwriters and singers I know <--there I go again with all that pretense. And now you are also climbing the ranks of pianists and guitarists. No need for any further comment on this outstanding song, but when I play it for others I'll say, "Hey, here's the newest one my friend sent me."

Hi, floyd jane.
Lovely build. It achingly pulls at the heartstrings, like it should. Whether or not a song pulls heartstrings ought to be the quality by which it's judged. Perhaps the only one.. Speaking of strings, I love the bends on the guitar solo. Because (like your vocals) it's not about the notes you play, but how you play them. This is, of course, great to hear... There's no break in the phrase going into the first chorus, which is something I've heard you do before. I've got to steal that. Steal away! That's how we grow!! The instrumentation is subtle - the cello comes in for a very brief bit, and so on. Soft, but super effective. In some ways the opposite of my "big" productions, and you make every note count. I appreciate that you appreciate that. You are a good producer. You think about it, you care about it, it shows... So good. Always great to hear. Thanks, David Floyd,
"Do You Think Of Me?" has immediately become a new favorite. That is always a good thing to hear. And nice that you say that regularly. This is one of those songs that finds its way to you within the first 10 seconds. The writing, arrangement, and stellar vocal pull you close and keep you there until it's over — a song meant to be played over and over again. That might be one of the coolest things anyone has ever said to me about a song. It reminds me of why I love songwriters like Carole Bayer Sager and Burt Bacharach. Ya gotta know I love that. The song’s intent is instantly apparent. It breathes with you as you listen and lingers long after it ends. No, wait! THIS is the coolest thing anyone has ever said to me about a song! It also reminds me of why songwriting is my greatest joy. Bob "...greatest joy" ---- Of Course! you found the words I was actually looking for. Your comments are even lyrical. Your words truly warmed my heart, Bob

Yes indeed. This is a good one. The piano is well done. Not overbearing. As a guitar player, the solo was tasty and not overplayed. While I personally would have used a less overdriven tone, it works. Good job.
I did think the drums were slightly mismatched and kinda distracting in places.
Really well done. Glad you had a chance to listen... I echo all the kudos here... so pleasing to receive.. quality all the way around..I especially liked the ending.. clever, natural, and a sweet wind down to silence. So glad I tuned in!! Thanks, Tom...

The lyrics reflect my thoughts and is probably universal. The sparseness of the production gives it a fullness of feeling. Such a beautiful song. One of your best. If I were performing, I would cover this song.

I hope you don't mind me saying, but when you play the piano and sing songs like that, you're like a male version of Adele, full of sad emotions. Why would anyone mind That??? Or That??? Acoustic bass and cello were an excellent choice. Always an easy choice with piano... I'm not 100% happy with the fingerpicked guitar because it's a little distracting, but other than that, the mix and production are as good as it gets. Thanks for pointing this out. I had the nylon guitar panned left originally. Right before I posted, I decided to move the opening nylon licks to the center. The rest came with it and was definitely sitting in the wrong place and running into other things. I re-mixed. Listened to it a coupe of times. Enjoyed it. A lot ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/images/icons/default/thumbs_up.gif) Very much appreciated... Beautiful song, Floyd. - I just noticed as I replied that someone opened with exactly the same word! Incredibly good lyrics. Very much relate to the opening and closing verse/s. Thanks, Chay...

Your lyric reminds me of why you have been my mentor in songwriting. Your mastery of brick and mortar is on full display here. Your piano is sublime and your guitar solo is perfectly suited and the joy you feel in your performance provides an equal amount of joy for your listeners. And, although you did not mention singing as one of your favorite pastimes, it sure brings pleasure to us. The production is top bar in all aspects. Your recent guitar, piano and bass journeys remind us of one of our favorite quotes about the joys of cycling. It speaks to the deep joy that comes from challenges, improvement and the sense of accomplishment. And that without those we might as well be playing tiddlywinks. We feel your joy! Loved it! J&B

Touching lyrics performed convincingly straight from the heart. The band is simple, but there is everything needed to elevate this song high above throwaway music. Enjoyed the piano, the bass, the picking guitar, cello, mallets, solo... great airy mix.
This song combines all of your songwriting, playing, mixing and singing highlights into one song. You are the superstar of this forum, even though you should be on a world tour with sold-out arenas.

I felt like every element of this was perfect, I love when things start like this... and its gestalt was incredible. Can 100% guarantee that no one has ever described one of my song in such a manner. I'm tickled. Pink. Really left me with the feels when it was over, You gotta know that this thrilled me to no end... like an early Springsteen ballad. (Meeting across the river, Mary Queen of Arkansas, Sandy) But you may have topped it with that... Loved the recollections of the narrator and his subtle melancholy. Every once in a while, you finish one and think "...ooooh...this might work." Don't you love when that happens??? The whole reason... And of course, all delivered by a world class voice. Very nice of you to say, Rob... I do appreciate that. Thanks for the super comments!

Floyd, bittersweet reflections can be SO tricky to turn into an excellent song...but you've nailed it. Your lyrics are understated, yet they scream volumes. Love your piano work, vocals and solo. Heck, it's ALL crafted together with an intricate, delicate touch. Ron - you gave me many smiles. Thanks! I started listening before I began to read the details and I was wondering, "What BIAB piano track is that?" and then I discovered it was you. That is, needless to say, very nice to hear... Love everything about this -- lyrics, vox, melody, accompaniment & production all blended together perfectly. Thanks! I can't write any more, I have to go listen to it all over again. Appreciate the nice comments, Brian...

Hi Floyd! I've heard forum members talk highly of your songwriting and recording. Now I can hear why. Andrew ok Hi floyd.
This is such a beautiful song. I love the wistfulness of the lyrics and melody, and the way that you have amplified it through your arrangement, production and performance. I appreciate that you notice Your chorus's opening clause is superb: "Sometimes that summer is all that I can see". That is such an easy sentiment to relate to. I'm pretty sure most people have experienced that kind of summer whose memories travel through time with you and drift in and out of fond recall. Thanks for pointing this one out. I am so pleased with this line, in particular. If only ever line I wrote could carry the weight that this one managed... Your knack for making fine music seems endless. I hope so. (though I do see a very abrupt end down the road. inevitable... ) I thoroughly enjoyed listening. --Noel I enjoyed your comments. Thanks, Noel... I think this is my favourite from you, Floyd. That is always a nice thing to hear, James... I kinda wish I'd written this one myself That's nice to hear, too. - but, had I tried to, it would have never been this good. I don't believe that a wistful, reminiscing song that hits home. Detailed snapshots of a relationship that once worked. Impossible not to relate. That guitar, that piano ... thanks! your well-known inflection on every note ... you are not pushing too much with the voice, nor whispering too softly. The right dynamic for every line ... thanks! Well done, Floyd. A small masterpiece, without a doubt. Thanks for the very nice comments, James...

You had me right from the intro piano I think, Floyd, and the that wonderful vocal comes in. Man, what a voice! Thanks! I have to disagree with David somewhat How you play the notes of course is very important, but the notes you choose to play is kinda important too Very nice solo, fit the song perfectly. that journey has been a joy... Piano outro works a treat. I very much appreciate that... Always a good thing to hear. Thanks for the terrific comments, Dave... Floyd, you have posted many music masterpieces before but IMHO this is your best to date. Smilin' Your piano playing is fantastic and just what this song needed. a little bigger Your guitar solo was very tasty, brilliant job on that. Even Bigger Your voice is always stellar. Your lyrics are always outstanding however you really had me with these lyrics. Your instrumentation and mix was outstanding. Loved it. Thanks for the great comments, Mario... much appreciated...

Outstanding in every aspect. Songwriting, playing, production, vocals, love your tone man. Thanks. Floyd,
If any song resonates better than this one, I've not heard it yet. Probably won't ever hear one better than this unless you pen another piece of musical majesty, and that's always a possibility. Such a nice thing to say... Wonderful piano and guitar work. Vocal and arrangement are superb. But the true magic of the song, for me, is the winsome vocal. The melancholic delivery takes the listener on a journey of innocent reflection. Your vocal inflection gently coats the entire song with the feeling the subject of the song contemplates possible regret or simply conflicting thoughts about what might have been. It has a strong Ed Bruce vibe. In my mind, that's a real good thing. His song "After All" comes to mind.
Alan Haven't thought of Ed in a long time... Thanks for the nice review, Alan...

Hello Floyd, A first-class song. Absolutely superbly played and sung. However, I'm not sure whether the acoustic guitars you chose are the right ones for this song and whether they are even necessary. I think the song would be perfect without the two acoustic guitars and just with your fantastic guitar solo. In any case, an impressive performance, Floyd. Andi ;-)

floyd,
This is the ultimate love song. Even if a new partner have been found, I'm sure everyone thinks about their old partners from time to time. The song, piano, and vocals are all wonderful. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
