Hi, Noel. Nice write! It's got the hallmark of your writing: nice melody, positive lyrics, interesting phrasing, unusual vocabulary (example: "hurricane"). Bits of alliteration as well I thought the production served the song well. Hi David, Thanks for the positive feedback I appreciate it. However, I feel like SynthV really let you down - it sounds like a synthetic vocal. It's pleasant to listen to, but there's no dynamics. It's almost like someone auto-tuned the life out of it. Kevin's English is great, but he doesn't seem to know how to sing. I spent a great deal of time trying to shape Kevin to get the best performance possible. I found that this song was the most difficult one that I had ever worked on with this vocaloid. The melody and the singing needed rubato because of the nature of the song and its topic, and realistic rubato didn't come easily. To my way of thinking, "This Tree" is not the type of song that has a huge dynamic range as it is meant to be about singing to someone on a personal level. As such, it is not meant for dramatic interpretation. I prepared Kevin's vocals and the production accordingly. Ultimately, Kevin sang as I would have sung the song if I could have done so. Thank you for taking the time to pass on your thoughts. --Noel P.S. I am impressed with GSat+ as it's very versatile and offers a useful selection of presets. I've haven't used saturation too much in the past. After watching a number of videos, though, there certainly is merit in using it in various ways in productions.

Hi Noel,
I really liked the chord progression and arrangement. The backing band fit the song perfectly. Unfortunately I was sold on the synth vocal, but that is just my opinion. I enjoyed my listen.

Lovely subject in a world where trees are mostly seen only as a source material for products. But you give life to that tree, a purpose to exist on its own. You beautifully describe its characteristic, long life and fights through hard times, and also its importance to you. And finally you use it as a metaphor for lasting love. Excellent storytelling!
Enjoyable arrangement, first the piano, the the rest of the band and then the strings. The chord progression sounds very pleasant and the melody is quite universal. I read your comment about the influences, you have combined them and made the song sound like a genuine Noel song.
I have no real complaints about Kevin's voice, I like how Kevin sounds like your inner voice, albeit a little hoarse and emotionless this time. Maybe the range is bit too low or its bit too masculine, because your previous Kevin songs have sounded better.
Janne Hi Janne. It's good to see you. I appreciate your visit and your comments. Thank you All the best, --Noel

Hi Noel
Lovely song, production and arrangement. Full of sentiment and meaning. It shows that I am a newbie to BIAB, because I was going to compliment you on the vocals. It completely fooled me, shows how clever and realistic AI is getting. I need to develop my ear for AI vocals….or just read the preamble!
Great song though, kind regards

Wonderfully melancholic. When I see old trees, I always wonder what they have seen in their lifetime. Peace, wars, sun, and rain - to bad they can't tell us their story. I'd love to hear your voice in this song, but that's my only nit. Great emotional song!

Love the message, Noel. Glad you found it and were able to bring it to life. Wouldn't mind hearing a little harmony somewhere. Hi BYOBand. I appreciate your visit and your comments. Thank you I agree with your thought about harmony. In this instance, though, I decided that I wanted the song to be about one person talking to another person rather than a performance of a song. I'm not sure that I have achieved my goal. When I revisit the song, I will definitely try some harmony and see how it works as that is something that I haven't yet investigated. Regards, --Noel

Love the lyrics, though I talk to trees all of the time. On UK TV there was recently a series on trees and it's amazing what secrets they hold.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Oooo, happy when I'm right; it WAS me that messed up. What a terrific song Noel. I love the changes and the melody you drape around them. Oh, you are a wonderful tinkerer, Noel. So glad you found this among the backup. Great choice on the synth, too. Those strings you added are perfect, and support --or demand-- the changes. What a treat. Howdy Marty. I'm glad the song worked for you and that you persevered. Thanks a ton for having a listen. I really appreciate your comments. All the best, --Noel

Noel,
Always a treat hearing a Noel tune . . . I always look forward to them . . . this is no exception. Just a beautiful song and wonderful write. Production hits all the right notes in all the good ways. It’s not my favorite vocaloid—something with the tone that doesn’t quite nail it for me. BUT, that’s a bit of nitpicking and preference. It’s killer just as is.
Outstanding!!
Deej
P.S. Thanks much for your kind comments on the Deej/ray collaboration "Walking on Water"--I didn't want to bump the song up, but wanted to let you know I saw the comment and appreciate the feedback.

The song is terrific, Noel. As a kid I always wondered why songs were always about love when there were so many other subjects to write about - and the magnificence of a tree is surely a worthy subject. I feel that if the synth voice had an accent, it would sound a lot like you. So that's a good thing. Very glad you can continue to make music. This is a fine effort!

This is a beautiful song Noel and we felt connected with the lyric immediately.
Some of Janice’s favorite poems reflect on the comfort trees bring. Especially Mary Oliver’s “When I am among the trees” and Joyce Kilmer’s “Trees.”
And then the analogy to the steadfast partner is endearing.
Both of these are so true:
“… And this tree gave me hope and helped me mend”
“… And with all my heart, I promise I’ll be as steadfast as this tree”
We thought the lovely melody reminded us of something we love. And then we saw your response about Elvis’s “I can’t help…” and realized why it charmed us!
Nice and band and as always a fine mix.
Enjoyed it!

Noel,
I finally have a little bit of time to spend on the forum. I was looking forward to hearing this, as your music is always excellent.
What a nice story you have created - a touch of melancholy. Your lyric creativity is always a pleasure to contemplate. I've not written many lyrics over the past two or three years. That is my greatest weakness in songwriting. I once was pretty good at it, but that discipline has been on vacation, and I can't seem to lure it back. But you are so good at it.
I like the relative simplicity of the arrangement. And, as always, the mix and final product are supreme. Very nice, indeed. I enjoy your song very, very much!
Wishing you everything good.
Alan

Great song though, kind regards Hi Knee Wobbler. Thanks for having a listen and commenting. I like these vocals too I spent quite a bit of time tweaking them to get them to be the best that I could. the "Kevin" voice for Synthesizer V is one of my favourites. I was pleased to read that you thought it sounded realistic. All the best, --Noel

Noel,
It's a song with a bit of a classical feel. Like Schubert. The key changes in the chorus are particularly beautiful. I can feel the influence of classical music there, too. The lyrics, which look straight into the future, are very moving. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
