Always wanted to do something in this genre. I learned that I don't have the proper tools, training, or resources to do it as I wanted.
Really need help with the levels on this--I wanted to make sure the vocal wasn't drowned out by the backing. Please help me with comments!!

Oh, the day I brought you home from Old Wazoo
To meet my mom and get her blessings for we two.
But when she got herself a good long look at you
She wagged her head and said
"Girl, you'll never do!

(I gotta) tell you that this boy's my shining star
As women go, I think you know you're no cigar.

Looks as though he's scraped the barrel
I can tell just what you are:

Unemotional,
Run-of-the-mill,
Missing in action
Tacky and shrill.

Under developed,
Bawdy and rude,
Moany and moody,
Too crude.

Pretty much all MIDI. I started with a college fight song midi file that I found. I tried to use a VST called "GameDay", but I couldn't really manage it...most of the samples are from SampleTank4. I also really needed about 4 girl cheerleaders, but I didn't have anything like that around the house!!

Gotta be the best college-fight-song tracks ever posted here smile
Clever. Especially that title...
Vocals are well out-front.

A fun listen.

From BD Thomas' Winehouse tribute to this... I'm having a very musically diverse day! I'm not sure what you feel you're not capturing here...just levels? It sounds good to me. If you can find it, give a listen to the Electric Company's song "Fight". It might give you ideas.

Read the title and first wanted to exclaim, "No, I am full." Now I must quote Floyd: "Gotta be the best college-fight-song tracks ever posted here." This is waaaay different, and wonderfully entertaining, Tom. Man, you are one cool and crazy cat.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Tom,
fun theatrical production. You have a special relationship with lyrics, this tune is not an exception.
"Always wanted to do something in this genre." I think you did a grand job for the first try.

Thank you for sharing,
M.

P.S. Last week attended my son's soccer game. A marching band was practicing outside... for 2 hours smile

Hi Tano,

I think we don't have this kind of college tradition in my country. Nothing like these kind of songs or lyrics. Or probably we have this now and I missed it...
But other than that, it's a nice song. I remember hearing it in some American movies. about the lyrics I'm not so sure...
Technically, I'd prefer to give your vocals a bit less volume and a bit more reverb, and even some delay, to create some space.
Right now, it's too much in the foreground and definitely not drowned out by the accompaniment!

Marty, Arri, Misha, Hans.. Thanks for the feedback.. the production is far from satisfying, but it became a bit of a pesty earworm, and I had no option but to post it as is.. maybe someday I'll come back and try to improve it.. I'll let it stand as an offbeat composing idea... until the next time-- Fight on!!

Hi Tom.

I'm in the same boat as Hans. We don't have these kinds of marching bands that are part of the college sport scene here in Australia, so I'm unable to hear it from that perspective. As an entertaining and well presented song, though, it's two thumbs up from me 👍👍. I once tried to write a marching band song and failed miserably, so I know first hand what some of the challenges are. You're a brave and talented songwriter for tackling this! I enjoyed it smile I'll leave it to others who are more familiar with this genre to pass on their thoughts regarding the mix.

Well that was a fun listen. As Noel 96 says, we don’t have this sort of college marching music here in Australia. Although I do remember back in the 70s having to march to music over the PA in primary school on 30 degree+ days. The opening reminded of those times, things were a lot simpler then.

Great listen.

Thanks…for the Aussies..is there some equivalent? Like a sports anthem, or a marching song?

Tom, this is a lot of fun, and I disagree about you not having the chops to pull it off...'cause you did! New genres are a good exercise, especially when it makes one uncomfortable.

I did a song using the same or similar BiaB RealStyle a few years ago, and had a blast. I still fantasize about seeing the University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band perform it at a halftime show...

Hi Tom!
One of our major football codes - some would argue THE major football code - is Australian Rules Football a.k.a. Aussie Rules, AFL, Footy. We don’t have marching that I know of, but we do have a club theme song and the victorious team get’s to sing their theme song after the match/game. Here is the theme song for my team: Adelaide Crows. The game is played with teams from each state but is native to Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania, with teams introduced into our national comp in Queensland and New South Wales (where rugby is predominant). Our grand final is played before a crowd of 90,000+ at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. To find out more, see YouTube - Aussie Rules explained

We admire those who jump into new to them generes.
We make music in a lot of genres ... but they aren't new to us.

Mission accomplished. We see no need to parse it out.
Waaaaay different indeed but all sounded fine to us.
Not that we are "qualified" genre wise to offer any opinions. smile

Fun to hear something so adventurous!

Tom, that intro gave me a flashback to my marching band days! We didn't have a vocalist in the marching band though wink
A very interesting, different, but excellent song. Great lyrics and cheerleaders. I found nothing wrong with your vocal. Great mix.
