I've found my song files open in the wrong key -- I work out of 'real book' jazz tunes. If I correct the key and save the file, it will still reopen in the 'wrong' key. If I save-as to a new file name, with the correct key. Reopening that new file shows the older, 'wrong' key. The file is definitely saving -- the modify date is updated in windows explorer. If I add a chord to the song, it will save that chord, but when I reopen the file, my new chord was transposed to the old, wrong key.
Any thoughts? thanks!

Hi CTM. I'm not sure about this but it sounds like you might have visual transpose on. The image below uses BIAB's standard display. Pressing CTRL+T will toggle between full-screen and standard displays of the program. ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=31321&filename=guitar capo visual transpose.png) Whenever BIAB does things differently from what I'm used to, I've found that running "Return to factory settings" (RTFS) usually fixes the problem. I always start with the "MOST" option as that keeps the present audio and MIDI drivers in place. The RTFS is found under the "Options" menu that is located at the very top of BIAB. Regards, --Noel

Welcome to the forum. There are a few ways to do transposition in BIAB.
If Noel is correct, and he always is, then the explanation is that the key IS saved with the song but it can be OPENED BACK UP in another key IF you have visual transposition on.
You can also see if a visual transposition is in effect by looking at the normally empty little area to the right of the displayed key signature, between that and the tempo.
Trust me, I've been confused. That's why I asked for the VISUAL indication a transposition was in effect, and they added it. For my trumpet it will say +2 [because a trumpet sounds two half-steps lower than concert pitch when reading the same pitch]
I play various instruments pitched in C, D, Eb, F, G, A, and Bb. Generally, to be safe, I save songs using different file names where I add the transposition to the end of the file name. Example: AmericaF.MGU or AmericaBb.MGU
If that is not it, do the Factory Settings he described. If it still fails, list for us the steps you are taking. I know a few other things to check.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Hello Noel,
Visual transpose was not on. 'Return to Factory Settings' did resolve the problem. thank you, particularly for your detailed navigation instructions. Much appreciated.
best, Chris

Chris, It's great that you managed to find a solution. Perhaps consider to open your original post and mark it as 'Resolved'. There's a button for that. This can assist others in the future.
