very clever production Gdaddy...I assume this is your production and you aren't just posting a link to somebody else's youtube?

the lyrics were selected in such a way that nothing was strained, and you got to slip in a few surprise rhymes. I have a special preference for songs that have been put to video, The backing track to maragaritaville was very good...spot on, in fact.

I suspect this one will get quite a bit of circulation. You might even get audited.

Nice writing from a misguided guy.

Tell you what- take a week or so and watch MSNBC instead of FIX News, if you need your opinions formed by others. Try and educate yourself past the bumper sticker politics the GOP would love to keep you fully entrenched in so they can keep you as ignorant as the lyrics of this tune, keep you firmly down, and go merrily on taking your money while they prosper- which they did for eight miserable years that led to this horrific state of affairs. You have to understand that they have you in a sort of hypnotic state my friend, and that's exactly where they want to keep you. The rich and powerful must keep you ignorant so they can continue their adjenda. And judging by the lyrics of this tune, they're still doing a fine job of it, even being the minority. So for a week or so, give up FIX news, Hannity, and Beck [I'm gagging just typing them], and allow intellegent people to form your opinions for you- who's only adjenda is FACTS, not bullshit to further the republican cause. At the very least, you owe it to yourself to open your eyes to reality beyond FIX news- which is no reality at all. In fact, on the count of three I'm gonna snap my finger and all the perverse opinions that have been spoon fed to you to keep you ignorant will dissapear.

Shockwave,

I guess you didn't notice, but this thread died out about 10 days ago. That means you had to go looking for it in order to comment on it.

So I guess you're looking for something to bitch about. GDaddy wrote a funny song and put a cool video to it. Some of us got a laugh out of it.

Nobody's trying to convert you or anyone else. I've always laughed at the jokes that Leno, Letterman, Stewart, etc made about the politicians I voted for, as long as the jokes were funny. Let's face it, ALL politicians are a joke, regardless of the party.

GDaddy's video and song are funny. Lighten up dude.

Dan,

If I may respectfully point out... He did what we do here: he posted music (which presumably is original, though he never stated so specifically) . Creativity is based on the perception of the artist. IMHO, it's bad form to smack somebody down because you don't like his perspective.

If you want to disagree, by all means...do it in song. That road runs in both directions! But insulting rebuttals lead to flames, and flames undermine forums. And this is a great forum that doesn't deserve to be undermined.

Shockwave,

In case you didn't realize it, you just "bumped" this forum back to the top! Here's a little tip. If there's a post you don't like...........just ignore it. It'll go away.

Post a mindless tirade 10 days after the post is dead and guess what............it's front page again!

The upside is that this will give more people the opportunity to listen to GDaddy's funny song. LOL.

This is not a showcase forum- it's an off topic forum. Whether it's a song or text, it's in a forum where topics and opinions are fair game to be discussed. At least that's what an off topic forum indicates in the world of forums. Had this been placed in the showcase forum, I would have [probably] held my tongue. And I gave him props by saying 'nice writing'. I know full well what bumping means and what it does. I've been running a forum for many years now. This writer wrote his opinion in song in an off topic forum, and I gave mine. And I'm perfectly fine doing that no matter how old the post. It's that kind of opinion that can't be left to smolder in peoples minds, because that's exactly why this country is in the shape it's in. Dish it, fine. But take it too. I'm not a meany. I have an opinion, just like the author.

Post a mindless tirade

The only thing 'mindless' was the message of that song....imo.

And btw- I wasn't 'searching' for this post. I haven't been in the OT forum in a long while and came across this I think about page....two.

One more thing and this is to the author. You did well with this song because it's provokes thought. It provokes opinion and feeling. In the end, all any writer wants is to accomplish that. For that, you should be proud. It's a heck of a lot more interesting than the multitudes [myself included] of songs centered around love found, had, and/or lost. It's also more challenging too. Good for you! However misguided....!

Dan, the forum has had this discussion before every time the topic of religion or politics starts to divide the forum into factions. The official position is approximately as popular as the position on not posting covers:

Quote:

This forum is for MUSIC-RELATED discussions that aren't about PG Music products.

Once the discussion leaves the realm of music and starts using inflammatory words like "ignorant", "misguided", "educate yourself", "bullshit", "perverse" you make it personal and insulting.

Personally, I am of the opinion that off topic discussion should allow a wider range of topic than just music.. But even where a wide range of topic is allowed, flames aren't.. and personal insults are generally the match that lights the flame.

We have had some fascinating discussions here that were potentially explosive, and the reason they worked is because people responded respectfully, even when they disagreed. IMHO, that is the key to encouraging participation in a forum. If people routinely see personal attacks, they will clam up. It takes a long time to build trust, but it can be destroyed very quickly.

In spite of the rule, I doubt PGMusic cares what we talk about as long as we do it in a way that does not make a bad reflection on the company. The surest way to lose liberty in any environment is to use it for disruption. And the surest way to get unity is to promote it and practice it ourselves.

I didn't get the thing..that's ok. It's the USA.

I see there's lots of versions of that song if you google it. Whover GDaddy is I've yet to see anything but links show up as posts and that never struck me as useful.

It always seems there is a <political> agenda there of one sort or the other.

Dan,

If you’ll look back at the posts prior to yours, you’ll see there were no political discussions going on.

Quote:

It's that kind of opinion that can't be left to smolder in peoples minds

You honestly don’t think there was anything “smoldering” in peoples minds after watching a musical parody do you? Seriously?

You have the right to post whatever you want, but you really should refrain from insults. In your very first line you called GDaddy “misguided”, simply because his opinions may differ from yours. You then told him to “educate” himself, called him “ignorant” several times, said he was “in a sort of hypnotic state”.

What really blew me away was for you to suggest that GDaddy do the following:

Quote:

allow intellegent people to form your opinions for you

I don’t know about you, but I’m perfectly capable of forming my own opinions and I’ll bet that GDaddy is too. By the way, you misspelled intelligent. If you’re going to insult someone’s intelligence, you may want to use spell check before posting or it may backfire on you.

And then to top it off you said this:

Quote:

In fact, on the count of three I'm gonna snap my finger and all the perverse opinions that have been spoon fed to you to keep you ignorant will dissapear.

One

Two

Three

The country can only hope smarter minds will prevail....

Those are some pretty serious insults over the posting of a song parody. And by the way, you misspelled “disappear”. For the record, we never pick on each other for spelling errors on here because all of us do it, myself included. The only reason I’m pointing them out to you is because you said that GDaddy needed to “educate” himself, that he was “ignorant”, and that he needed to be “smarter”. It’s to make a point.

What usually happens on this forum when one of us insults another member is that we make a public apology on the forum. I’ve made several public apologies on here when I’ve said things deliberately, or just without thinking first, that was an insult to another member.

In the spirit of that, I would like to apologize to you for calling your tirade “mindless”. It was a gut reaction for what I thought was a gross over reaction to a song parody. I just hope you’ll “man up” and apologize to GDaddy.

For the record, I don’t watch Fox News, (or as you so cleverly put it, Fix), nor do I watch CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC or NBC news. I don’t listen to Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Boortz, Savage, etc. I’m also not a member of the Tea Party. I’m just a plain old conservative and I’m capable of forming my own opinions.

When it comes to news, all I want to know is what happened, who, when and where. I’ll decide what to think about that for myself. A song parody of any political persuasion isn’t going to affect the way I think, but it might make me laugh, even if the parody is about a politician I support.

Well, to bring it back to music, all that kept running through my mind was:

"The One On The Right Is On The Left"
(as sung by Johnny Cash)

There once was a musical troupe
A pickin' singin' folk group
They sang the mountain ballads
And the folk songs of our land

They were long on musical ability
Folks thought they would go far
But political incompatibility led to their downfall

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear was a Methodist

This musical aggregation toured the entire nation
Singing the traditional ballads
And the folk songs of our land
They performed with great virtuosity
And soon they were the rage
But political animosity prevailed upon the stage

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear burned his driver's license

Well the curtain had ascended
A hush fell on the crowd
As thousands there were gathered to hear The folk songs of our land
But they took their politics seriously
And that night at the concert hall
As the audience watched deliriously
They had a free-for-all

Well, the one on the right was on the bottom
And the one in the middle was on the top
And the one on the left got a broken arm
And the guy in the rear, said, "Oh dear"

Now this should be a lesson if you plan to start a folk group
Don't go mixin' politics with the folk songs of our land
Just work on harmony and diction
Play your banjo well
And if you have political convictions keep them to yourself

Now, the one on the left works in a bank
And the one in the middle drives a truck
The one on the right's an all-night deejay
And the guy in the rear got drafted

Why do you think the OP was insulted? I don't hear him saying that. It kills me how almost every time in an instance like this, people get wrapped up in a 'defensive' argument on behalf of someone else and the OP never jumps in to clarify a thing about their own feelings about someones comments. With that in mind, I'll ignore all others on the subject because they have no bearing on what the OP is actually thinking or feeling. Frankly, I wasn't even talking to anyone else in the first place.

To the OP- if my choice of words offended you, I apologize. I found the message of the work offensive, that's all. I mean, it wasn't just music for music's sake right? It was a thoughtful message that I don't agree with. Especially the implication that because you can find someone who looks like Obama he's what, a Muslim? A terrorist? What are you getting at there exactly? Are we gonna question his citizenship again too? I'm a New Yorker and we typically do not pull any punches when we speak our minds. In the world of forum flames, I don't believe mine rank very high. Keep in mind ignorance is not really an insult. I'm ignorant to many things too. We all are. It's normal to be ignorant. We learn about something, and then we are no longer ignorant to it. Stupid- now that's an insult. Notice I didn't use that word, nor would I. Stupid people cannot write as well as that crafty lyric you wrote. In fact, if this had been truly original work, I would have scored you a 10. But it wasn't, so I can only give you a 7. Nice job on a message I don't agree with.

To everyone else, be careful about being the moral police on behalf of others. It squashes good, healthy conversation and leans a group towards censorship- none of which is a good thing. And Bob, bring up spelling is childish. Not needed.

Btw- further investigation is leading me to believe this is not the OP'S own work- hense why he's not responding. If you're gonna post someone elses work, clarify it up front. Then I would be talking to someone else entirely.

Dan,

Well the OP, (aka original poster), would probably be insulted because of all of the truly bad and unjustified things you said about him, with absolutely no reason to do so.

But since I don't even know GDaddy, I won't try to speak for him. What I will do is speak up anytime I see anyone treated unfairly. Even if I don't know them, or even like them. This wouldn’t be the first time I’ve taken up for someone else on this forum, and it won’t be the last.

If GDaddy follows his usual pattern, he will probably just put up a post, (aka the original thread), and see what happens without responding. He may surprise me!

As I stated before, the only reason I mentioned your spelling was because you went out of your way to call him “misguided”, uneducated, “ignorant”, and that he needed to be “smarter”. That made you fair game for not even being able to spell “intelligent”. In other words, you were asking for it.

I hate to use an old cliché, but “those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”. You were throwing a LOT of stones Dan. Don’t be surprised when some of them are thrown back at you.

One thing you need to keep in mind on this forum is that many of us either know each other personally, have become acquainted via the forum, exchanged PM’s and emails on a semi-regular basis, listened to the others music, collaborate on songs together, talk on the phone, played music “live” together, visit each other, send “get well” cards and the list goes on. It’s kind of a “family” atmosphere. Sometimes it may be a dysfunctional family, but you shouldn’t be surprised if you slam one member of the family, others may jump your case. I’ll probably be the first in line for that if you unfairly and without provocation start hurling insults toward someone on the forum.

If you’re wanting to slam people with anonymity, this isn’t the right place to do it.

I'm gonna bow out because I really don't think this is the OP's song. If that was disclosed, I'd have spared the forum here and posted at youtube, where my comments should be.

But make no mistake, this is a political work and no matter how much you want to side with your buddies and pen pals, when you put it out there it's fair game for opinions. I credited whoever did this work fairly and I spoke my mind- simple as that. If that steps on people’s toes and gives them hard feelings, then consider YOU shouldn't be the one taking it personally. And if you feel this strongly about a topic, perhaps say something of more substance than 'you hurt my friends feelings...and you can't spell.' We're in a politically charged atmosphere right now. But I can see that here, I must hold my tongue least I offend someones...feelings. So be it. I'm out, but I'll say just one more thing on the subject- vote in republicans or tea baggers next month and watch this country go to even deeper hell. I'm not completely thrilled with everything Obama's done and failed to do thus far, but he's done a HELL of a lot in less than two years trying to fix the utter mess this country was led into by the real axis of evil- Bush/Cheney.

In my opinion, least I don't get THAT disclaimer in there!

Dan

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.

The 2026 49-PAK is loaded with other great new add-ons as well. Learn more about the 2026 49-PAK!
