But make no mistake, this is a political work and no matter how much you want to side with your buddies and pen pals, when you put it out there it's fair game for opinions.

Dan,

For the record, we deal in opinions here every day. People post a song and others offer their opinions.

Nobody is asking you to withhold your opinion, or trying to censor you. By definition, censorship is when the only opinions that can be safely expressed openly are the opinions of the powerful. Nobody here is advocating censorship. What I see here is a call for even-handedness. Offer your opinions with the same guidelines you would use to critique a song. You don't have to say you love the song... just be objective while preserving the poster's dignity. And that's really the whole deal, in one sentence:

You can get away with saying almost anything if you say it in a way that preserves the dignity of the other person. But once the focus of criticism moves from the song/opinion to the person, then the criticism is no longer constructive

consider the difference between these two similar comments:

1) "IMHO, this song would be improved with the following changes to the mix..."

2) "What is this crap? Whoever wrote this song is stupid... he should let somebody intelligent do his mixing for him... "

nuff said.

That's just my opinion, and you don't have to agree with it... but it seems to keep the peace while allowing a wide range of liberty for everybody.
