I played bass and sang. We Already Said Goodbye She tossed the covers. I tossed and turned. Then looked up to see her face. She left last week, and said all hope was lost, but now she's back dressed in lace. All we ever did was argue who was right. We never put an end to the fight. We already said goodbye, I said. But let's forget that all tonight. Cuz if you want to change your mind, we could give our love another try. The days passed by. We learned a thing or two. We came to understand what we lost. We now have what's right with no room for what's wrong. We never will again pay that cost. Cuz We already said goodbye before so now we leave our past behind. Cuz we both learned a lot that week apart, and now we'll grow with love in mind. She pulled the covers right over our heads. We never looked back to quote our past. The magic never stopped. We gained more than we lost. Our last fight truly was our last. We already said goodbye. So no, we won't make that mistake again. We understand there's no wrong or right in love. Our now will never be our then cuz we already said goodbye. INTRO-- E A C#m A V-- (E A)2* E B C#m A-B *1stV =3 CH-- A-B C#m F#m-B E A-B C#m-A F#m B7

Hi Marty! I love the track choices on this one, especially the rhythm guitar chops and the solo guitar - was the solo guitar patch listed? This is a wonderfully positive message of two people taking ownership of the past yet jointly deciding to find a better way that honours each other. Good vocal as well, and thanks for the image effort on the video to illustrate the lyrics while listening. Andrew

Marty, super heartbreaker of a tune! Nice band, really like that chop guitar and the (uncredited?) soloist. Achingly crisp vocals, too, and the bass work is extra fine as usual. Great job playing the broken-but-hopeful angle...I think it's going to work this time!

Really enjoyed this Marty. Right from the opening, the chopping rhythm catches the ear. Strong vocal on this too, your vocal really suits this slower Americana style. Good storytelling lyrics.
Excellent job. Kind regards.

Classic Marty, Marty. Excellent vocal and band. I appreciate the unexpected in the lyrical story. Reminds me of my sister and her husband who got divorced one week and remarried the next!

Beautiful, and one of your best vocals yet. Good choice of instruments (I dig that tremolo guitar) and nice bass line which might be a dB too loud on some playback systems. But what can you expect from a bassist Enjoyed my listen. A lot ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/images/icons/default/thumbs_up.gif)

Bob Thanks so much, Bob. Since bands always wanted me to play bass, I never sang. If I made demos it was for someone else to sing. Lately I've actually been practicing these songs for at least a month before pushing Record. Thanks for saying that, man. Andrew Thanks, Andrew. Whoops. I also forgot the piano and organ; it's now corrected. I really like your description of the song, too. Image effort these days is more about coming up with the right prompt. P.S. I dig that cool cartoon avatar, aka profile pic. Marty, super heartbreaker of a tune! Nice band, really like that chop guitar and the (uncredited?) soloist. Achingly crisp vocals, too, and the bass work is extra fine as usual. Great job playing the broken-but-hopeful angle...I think it's going to work this time! Thanks, Ron. (Thanks for also listing your RTs; big help in finding the right acoustic for another song.) Sorry for the omission but the soloist, organist and pianist have been added. It was the heartbreak they felt that brought them back together. Really enjoyed this Marty. Right from the opening, the chopping rhythm catches the ear. Strong vocal on this too, your vocal really suits this slower Americana style. Good storytelling lyrics.
Excellent job. Kind regards. Happy to hear that, Lee. Thanks much!

I quote my YouTube comment: " Excellently inspired song theme. I don't think I can recall any love song which is about a successful 2nd time around. Did it come from personal experience, or just from that bountiful Babu creativity? I loved that short guitar solo, but being me and loving solos I wish it had gone on for longer."

Marty,
I really like this - it's my new favorite of yours. I love the mix. I always mix my backing tracks a little louder than many people on the forum, and you have done that here, and it plays so nicely in my ears. The two rhythm guitars are panned with a lot of real estate between, and I like how it widens the soundstage. The tremolo guitar fits in the mix perfectly - just enough to know it's there, and that's all it needs.
Very well done, my friend.
Take care,
Alan

You managed to lay down an excellent bass track while staying out of the baritone's way - not an easy task. A fantastic narrative, bear hug vocals and an arrangement that isn't cluttered in the slightest. Excellent.

Marty, this is fantastic. Super vocal backed by the perfect backing band. I really dug your bass lines and ton, great job on that. Super choice of RTs and they were perfectly mixed with your vocal and bass. Loved it.

Hi, Marty.
Well, you started with a great title, and it only got better from there.
You sound great, and you're fun to listen to.
We never will again pay that cost.
Ha! It took a second for my brain to unravel that. Nice wordplay.

Hi Marty,
I listened 2 moths ago to your song on YouTube and liked it a lot. Now I'm listening again and can only say what a good song it is, but "I already said that". A good song, with good guitar play and vocals!

Classic Marty, Marty. Excellent vocal and band. I appreciate the unexpected in the lyrical story. Reminds me of my sister and her husband who got divorced one week and remarried the next! Thanks, Beth. Yeah, I'm a sucker for happy endings --or at least hopeful endings. I have a friend who married his first wife second, but then went on for thirds with another. Sheesh. Good song, Marty, love your vocal!
Guitar is right on the money, nice find! Thanks, Dave. Ain't nothin' as good as you in there. Beautiful, and one of your best vocals yet. Good choice of instruments (I dig that tremolo guitar) and nice bass line which might be a dB too loud on some playback systems. But what can you expect from a bassist Enjoyed my listen. A lot ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/images/icons/default/thumbs_up.gif) Thanks, Brain. You're right, that tremelo makes the song. Yeah, I sometimes worry about making these sound like something from a bass player's album; guess I missed this one. I quote my YouTube comment: " Excellently inspired song theme. I don't think I can recall any love song which is about a successful 2nd time around. Did it come from personal experience, or just from that bountiful Babu creativity? I loved that short guitar solo, but being me and loving solos I wish it had gone on for longer." Thanks, Chay. Not sure, but maybe it came from an old Andy Williams song, "The second time around." Always liked that one. Yeah, if I would've had Dave in there, it would've been twice as long, but I can't be that unkind to his time and talent so often. Marty,

Janice said “yea!” for the happy ending. 😊
We enjoyed the story and your vocal was so good. Your expression following the line of “she’s back dressed in lace” was priceless.
Your bass is always top bar and the band was hittin’ the note. As Ray said, “You managed to lay down an excellent bass track while staying out of the baritone's way. Not an easy task.”
And that hazy ballad solo RT did a fine job.
As always your vid well complemented the narrative.
Enjoyed it!
