This helped me:

12 String bass tuned by doubling each standard E-A-D-G bass string with two smaller-gauge strings tuned to the same note and one octave higher, resulting in courses of eeE, aaA, ddD, and ggG. This creates a thick, shimmering sound because the two higher-octave strings will naturally be slightly out of tune with each other. The natural slight detuning between the two higher-octave strings in each course creates a chorus-like sound that is central to the 12-string bass's unique tone.

Looks like it will cost me $89 to see if I really have a place for this in my music frown. Not likely at this current time. grin
