Hi Alan! I agree with others - this has a very live sound. All the players work well together and sound like they’ve been doing it for years - like a well-oiled machine. Well done. Andrew
Hello, Andrew,
Good to see ya dropping by, Thanks!
I appreciate all the nice comments. I may have to go buy bigger hats - well, of I wore one. I usually don't.
Very fantastic Jazz Guitar tune! I can feel the 4 beats in the 16 beats, which makes this tune very stylish and cool. The guitar solo, bass, drums, and rhythm guitar are all perfectly matched, and the instrument selection is great. It reminds me of your long history as a jazz musician.
Best regards.
Shigeki Adachi
Shigeki,
You are so kind with your comments. I always enjoy reading what you have to say about my music. I'm delighted it all works for you. Thank you for telling me.
Super tune, Alan! That bass really sets the pace, and your "Larry" does a fine job threading a tune through the changes. Quite a clear mix, with a very present ambience. Always admired "Mr 335", and this is a sizzling tribute for sure. Well done!
HI Ron,
Yeah, Larry is a very talented musician. I started listening to him about 15 or 18 years ago. Glad I did!
And yeah, Brent gave me some stuff to work with. He's not too shabby.
It's nice to read about the mix and clarity you perceived as you listened. what more could i ask for?
Definitely a jazzy good feel driving instrumental! It's a really nice mix and production. I enjoyed the ride!
HI Chay,
Many thanks for the nice words. Sure do appreciate it!
I'll be over to hear your latest real soon. My time here for the next 5 or 6 days will be limited - lots of legal issues in progress since Di's death. But I'll be over soon.
Alan, you did a fantastic job of capturing the Larry Carlton vibe. Great work on that bass and drums. Along with the guitar it does sound like a Carlton song; I like him also! As mentioned this does sound like it was recorded live. Add some bar noise (talking and drinking glass sounds) and you would have fooled a lot of people. Outstanding use of RTs and RDs. Great mix. Loved it.
Hey, Mario,
Nice to know there's another Larry Carlton fan on the forum! I ran across him about 15 years ago and have been a fan since then.
I'm delighted you like the music! I believe this type of Jazz is an acquired thing, or you're (rhetorically you) )simply a natural fan of Jazz.fan. I appreciate the kindness! Really - I do!
Oooo, Larry Carlton. Excellent choice. And this is an excellent piece, Alan. Man, that's some extraordinary guitar playing, and I enjoy the progression you crafted for it to stretch out in. The bass sounds excellent, too. The percussion adds so much goodness. Yep, this is passing-lane music for sure.
Hi, Marty,
Thank you so much. Brent came through like a champ for me. I might give him a raise - double what I'm paying him now. Woo Hoo!
And yeah, the bass and drums drive this one. The melody's just along for the ride.
That was a lovely song, you made! A nice rhythm and an entertaining guitar. Normally I'm not a real Jazz lover, but this one let my feet swing, and that's some achievement!!!
Hans
Hello, Hans,
I know you're not a big fan of jazz, so you very nice words make me smile. Thank you so much!
Sounds great Alan! (I think we all need to make sure we write out Alan and not Al, otherwise, it looks like we mean artificial intelligence, LOL.) This reminded me of the CTI sound of the 70s. I only know LC from Steely Dan, but Mr.Mason stands in well. I have trouble getting a good solo take for one verse and here you've done it for a complete song! Your notes on the drum mix are interesting, especially since we don't have all drum stems with BIAB. Or all you doing something different? Lots to enjoy here, I'm listening multiple times. Stellar work.
Hey, Bob,
Yeah, I know what you mean about that name thing. I'm not smart enough to be confused with AI. Asfar as the name, I'm good with it either way, but I agree with you now that AI is such big thing - and it's gonna be for a long time.
As far as the drums, I have nothing but BIAB and a decent of how to mold them. I don't use a DAW, unless you want to call Audacity a DAW. Very little third party enhancements show up on my music. I have Cakewalk loaded on my computer, but have no idea what-so-ever how to use it. But I do have access its plugins. But they're pretty basic.
Thing is Alan - all your expertise & experience as a prof musician shines all over your posts, you have a way of knitting these projects together which makes them sound authentic & real! This one is no exception - great vibe and live feel, sounds like you just stepped off the stage! Superb job as usual,
Carl
Good day, Carl (still night over here),
Your very kind and supportive words make me smile! I don't have any special secret to what I do. It's very basic. I've just learned how to mold a few things in the program to meet my needs (most of the time). I played country music almost all my life. I love it. But I also love many other genres. I'd play Merle Haggard, Buck Owens,.Tammy Wynette songs for 4 hours and then listen to Chuck Mangione or Lew Rawls on the way home after a gig.
Thank you so very much for the kind visit and nice words. I appreciate that very much.
Nice, you have been practicing, BTW yea I can tell you love recording drums sections, love it. Donny G
Hi, Donny,
Thank you very much for the kindness. I appreciate it very much.
I'll be over to listen to your new one real soon. My wife passed away recently, and I'm tied up in a lot of legal stuff for another week or so. But I'll be over within the next couple of days.
Your work with BIAB is something to behold. No one can touch you. Amazing instrumental. Amazing mix.
So Good.

Floyd,
I'm pretty much lost for words (that doesn't happen very often) to reply to you.
All of what you said means a lot to me - and I'm sincere when I say that.
I have no secrets - don't even use a DAW, so third-party enhancements are very rare in my musical efforts.
I simply have taught myself to know chords, how to use them, and how to apply them. Everything else is heart, gut, and ears. And that seems to work adequately. You know the old adage: if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck .................
When it sounds right to me, I leave it alone and do whatever is next. As I've said before, I'm not a perfectionist. And that saves me a lot of time. A good sense of chord structure and chord patterns helps. I',m 99% self-taught. Don't read, write, or compose using notation. I could go on, but you get the idea.
Yes, very nice use of those real tracks Alan to capture that jazzy feel.
I have an idea for some song lyrics that might work for this tune.
He was a hard-headed man, he was brutally handsome And she was terminally pretty She held him up and he held her for ransom In the heart of the cold, cold city
Driving in the fast lane! Surely make you lose your mind!
Well that's all I can think of, see what you can do with that.

Definitely cruisin' in the fast lane of a coastal highway. You met your mark pretty convincingly Alan. Super.
Hi ray,
Many thanks. That was the exact scene I had in mind - driving along a coastal highway, wind blowing through the driver's hair, and everything is just right.

Hi david,
Hey - thanks a bunch. I like that starter for a lyric. I hadn't intended for it to have a lyric, but what you offered as a starting point is pretty danged cool! I'll see what I can do. So, somewhere down the road, don't be surprised to hear it with a lyric. I appreciate thast. and glad you liked the song.
I was trying to be goofy just a little bit. I'm not sure you want to use that lyric cuz I don't think the Eagles would be very happy about it come to think of it.
😂
