(Don't) Take That Curve!
-----------------------------------------
Hit the ground in Nicetown then south to Monterrey;
Owned the dish in B-more, and I heard them every day:
"You Gotta Take That Curve, boy!"
"Take That Curve!"

Brought up to the big show, Flatbush in the Spring;
Mighty hooks a-comin', Leo tells me "Hold your swing!"
"You Gotta Take That Curve, boy!"
"Take That Curve!"

Everybody tellin' me to lay off Uncle Charlie,
But I can see the break just fine;
Knock it, if it suits me, to the Q street station on the Brighton line.

Ten straight years wearin' blue, earned me best of the best;
Bedford Ave's in the rear view mirror, now we're heading west;
Come on and bring that curve!
I'm gonna sting that curve!

Go on and hang that curve!
I'm gonna bang that curve!

I'm gonna smash that curve!
I wanna crash that curve!

Wonderful jazz and a great choice of BiaB samples. Excellent arrangement and lyrics - but a disastrous ending! laugh

Tom - you're the master of variety. Where do you get these ideas? I love how you support your songs with FX and changes that add to the listening experience. I often think "What will Tom have for us today?"
Well done!

Tom, you have such an amazing talent for bringing the past into the present. What a great piece...kinda Route 66 meets Hit That Jive Jack. Loved it. The speed up at the end was a great touch.

Very enjoyable listen.
Good vocals.
Another very interesting Write.
Nice mix.

You show off BIAB avenues that don't often land in the Showcase. And do it well...
Kudos.

Man, that is fun.
We love big band vibes and this has it nailed.

The horns were great - trumpet is amazing.

Cool write and vocals and well delivered by the mix.

Three listens and still wanting more!

Very, VERY cool song, Tom. A classic style that would be right at home in a mid-20th century musical. Super backing track and soloist, and LOVE your vocals on this one. Excellent phrasing, FX chain and vocal placement in the mix. Outstanding!

You are Mr. Creativity, Tom! Got a kick out of this, love the way you sung that line "...Knock it, if it suits me, to the Q St. station on the Brighton Line." Also like the way you gradually quickened the last few lines until the precipitous end. Great work!

Great number. Really liked the trumpet and the build in tempo at the end until he couldn’t make the curve.

Excellent, kind regards.

Now herre's a cool coincidence, Tom. I just commented on Beth's newest and started out mentioning you, and immediately after her song SC gave me yours. I love this, man. That muted trumpet is perfect. Very cool lyrics, and when Roy took that curve I thought we wer all done. But then the song started again, and I stayed for another ride. Cool baseball references in your lyrics. Love it.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Friends, thanks for the comments. Marty, you got the BB references. This is a story of one of my heroes, Roy Campanella. Went from top-of-the-pack star to quadrapelegic after his tragic late-night auto accident, then lived a joy-filled life in his wheelchair, inspiring many. Thanks all for listening.

Hi Tano,

I feared something like your ending would accur, after that warning; "take that curve, boy".
A fun song in a style of the 30's.
The sax was great and the vocals too.
Enjoyed my listen!

Hans

Yes, Campy is surely an all-time favorite, Tom. An excellent choice for a hero and the perfect idea for a song. Love this one. I coached for 17 years --mostly Legion, and high school or college in the other seasons. Came back for here for more listening enjoyment.

Nice 40-50's jazz..... I finally figured out what it was about..... or I thought I did.... now I'm not so sure.

Nicely done.
