Your Beauty

Di loved nature, particularly the sounds of birds chirping in the forest. She also loved hearing a softly played cello. I tried to embody those two loves in this song.

She truly was beautiful.

Alan,

This may be the most exquisite and stunning piece of music I have ever heard from you...

A beautiful aching piece flooded with thought and feeling. The mix is gorgeous. Full, round and warm. Love the picture as well.

This will get many listens.

Thank you, Bob. I started this the day after she passed, but I just wasn't able to finish it. I decided it was time to bring it to fruition. So, I worked on it for a couple of hours this afternoon.

The picture was taken at a convention in Washington, D.C., many years ago. She was beautiful the day she was born. She won three beauty contests between the ages of 17 and 20. But her real beauty was in her heart and soul. Sure do miss her.

Alan, a gorgeous song and lovely tribute. Can't even imagine processing what you've gone through, but this FEELS like a good thing, and a RIGHT thing to me. Super opening, and great use of the background cello as a lead instrument. Love when the birds reappear before the closing, too. Very nicely done.

Thanks for reintroducing Di to group through these songs. Truly a life worth remembering.

Gorgeous instrumental, Al. The soulful cello is the perfect instrument for this.

Hi, Ron,

Thanks for the visit and lovely comments. And yes, the music is a good thing. It's a common interest and pursuit Di and I had. The grieving process is difficult, but I'm making progress. This big 4-bedroom, 4-bath house seems a lot bigger now. And much too quiet.

But when we met 15 years ago, her health was already declining, and we both knew it would never improve but would slowly deteriorate. We had 12 years of a terrific marriage. I'm thankful for that. And knowing she's out of horrific, chronic pain and near-total loss of ambulatory function is what I cling to deal with it and slowly get better.

Thanks again.

Alan

Thank you, Chay. It's very cathartic for me. I have way too much time on my hands, but the music is starting to occupy more and more of it.

Thanks for the visit and nice comment.

Very nice, Alan. Cellos and birds are two of my favorite sounds. My gf and I had 20 birds flying free in an apartment, I was known as the crazy birdman of Alexandria, Virginia. Small birds don't live long, so they're all gone now. I miss them, they were like children to me. Slept on my shoulders and head! The sounds on this track were very much like what I woke up to every day. What a great pic of Di. She was a looker, no doubt! A beauty queen and a songstress. Wow, you were blessed!

Hi Alan!
I heard someone say that the cello is an instrument close to the human voice. I studied cello at high school a long time ago. I think I saw you write that you are not a singer yourself, so I pray that the cello is singing words that your voice might not be able to. While this song has a sadness to it, it also sounds full of warmth and love - from reading your words, something that your heart is full of for your Di.
Thank you for sharing!
Andrew

What a beautiful tribute this is, Alan, and I was sitting on our porch watching hummingbirds on my (Janice) first listen. The birdsong is such a delight and the cello with the fingerpicked guitar reminded us of the warmth of Di’s voice.

The music you made together was special for all of us and her vocals have been and continue to be inspiring for me as to how to have your listener truly feel the lyric.

Your cover photo shows Di’s physical beauty matched her gorgeous voice. We hope all your sweet memories and the healing power of music will help you adjust to a new way of life. You were both fortunate to have shared such a deep love for each other and for music.

PS Bud here, Janice didn’t mention that she can whistle mimic a lot of birds and carries on conversations with them. 😀

Hi, Alan.

The BiaB cello really captures the sound of the player and instrument, and you've put into a lovely context.

Really nice, I'm glad you were able to finish this. smile

Hi Al,
I didn't know that Di had passed away.
I'm so very sorry. You always spoke so lovingly about her,
and you could really feel how much you loved each other.
This is such a beautiful song!!!
The birds really make it something special.
Di will love this song, that's for sure.
Great work, Al.
Andi ;-)

Ouch!! Alan, this one pulls so much right out of my chest. So much emotion is poured into this beautiful piece, and there is so much emotion that pours out of me listening. I listened once and couldn't type anything. This is all I can get out of the second listen. Just know that you touched me, man. Although never near you, I am with you.

Enjoy whatever happens!

The entrance of the cello after the gentle picking guitars was perfection. This was meticulously and beautifully crafted.

Thank you so much, Bob! yes, indeed, she was a looker! And what a singer.

When I lived in Bakersfield, CA, we had 13 parrots. two of them were great talkers. Cage cleaning every Sunday was quite a job, though! When we moved from California to Branson, MO, we donated them to the St. Louis Zoo. We couldn't have pets of any kind at our new residence. Sure did miss them. But we could see some of them at the Str. Louis Zoo when we visited the area. Our favorite was a Yellow Back Chattering Lorie. She had a near-human quality voice. We also had an Emerald Tucanette. He was gorgeous - huge cage.

Again, many thanks.

Alan
